Tri-logos

I saw that the other night when I was flicking through it! Cannot believe he valued the Madine at $25!

There are some very questionable prices in that book. The modern stuff isn't that bad in the book though

I just couldn't bring myself to pay that kind of money for a tatty old cardback.

Believe me I feel much the same but the alternative of paying 10x the price of a cardback for a carded version is definitely a lot worse! Besides, there isn't much that can go wrong with a cardback especially in transit, no worry of a bubble being crushed/cracked or falling off!

The weirdest thing is, I have seen more carded Madines than backers..work that one out.

Definitely. Not exactly a major character for kids to have run out and bought.

Mind you, he was the first ROTJ character I bought. Though that was before the film so I had no idea how insignificant he was.

It's cos no one bought Madines to have opened ones now.

Yep you are most certainly right on that one it's just a really weird situation where when a figure is hard to find MOC it's usually at least available in cardback form, Madine is the opposite, he had a limited distribution (France) but the ones that were on the shelves didn't sell to get opened like you said lol

So it is easier to actually find a Madine MOC than a bloody cardback! (which moves the goal posts on my Jawa/Fett/Madine cardback idea!)

So cat amongst the pigeons time.......

Save for the rarity and condition angles arnt tri-logos just very disappointing and generic?

Star Wars and ESB cards evoke a certain nostalgia, debut cards for related figures etc etc. Even ROTJ cards for the correct debut figures are cool but just churning out White Leias, Power Droids on generic tri logo cards just to flog them as the line declined in popularity is historically disappointing is it not?

Thats a big cat amongst alot of pigeons.......:)

Feathers and fur everywhere.....

I got to be honest, i use to think so, but now i think they are the best. Its helped that everyone who collects them on here has showed me the light.

The pictures are better than on the other cards I think.

I find myself picking up more trilogos than any other MOC at the moment. I ignored them for years and they have really freshend up the collecting.

Have a little browse through the first two sections of this site here: http://trilogo.info/

Trilogos: Info & history + the Features section, especially this one - http://trilogo.info/intro-history/collector-interest/

That might give you a better understanding of Trilogos and perhaps a bit of an insight into the appeal they have for certain collectors.

I don't like them a great deal. Much prefer the SW/ESB/ROTJ cards.

I can appreciate why people want to collect them and obviously I love the miscards :D

Prefer them to POTF though

Oh and..Trilogos are at least not as historically disappointing as U grading ;)

Oh touché'

But if you are going to U grade just use the generic tri-logos........

It's a fair point on the card back pictures, some are awesome such as Luke Gunner and Tie Fighter Pilot so that's a definite plus point.

Personally I'm a debut card guy, it's horses for courses I guess.

Interesting what the jawa tri cardback got "valued" for here a while ago. Who's the bumchum? Prices do fluctuate drastically though, I've been missing out more and more recently ( but I've always claimed to be a cheapskate )

The main reasons I love tri logos is because they're what I remember as a kid, a wall of 50p tri logo figures in a toy shop in Grimsby in about 1986 is one of my earliest memories :)

I also like how tacky they look, probably similar to why some people like bootlegs.

In my early days of collecting I remember buyng a figure then returning to the shop because it looked fake.

It was a trilogo. Long before I knew anything about Star Wars toy collecting. Not that I know a great deal now.

Ladies and gents we have a winner!

That is the core reason, my difference to them musy be because my first toy memory is a 12 back Ben and vader from Woolies.

Of course, duh, why didn't I realise that sooner.

All is right with the world.......no how about those U grades......

You are!

In all seriousness though, prices are going up because more people are starting to get into them, however and I do try to tell people this - there are more than enough out there for everyone, there is no need to overpay for anything Trilogo IMO - people have no idea just how much of it is out there, I see it of course because I look for it but outsiders to the market just see a few pieces on perhaps one site (be it ebay or a forum) and think that is all there is out there.

Unfortunately I think patience has a lot to do with it too and when people start paying through the nose because of a lack of patience (it's the I want it now attitude) then the rest of us suffer when prices go up and stay up.

And..RE: The Jawa card, well -back when that valuation fiasco happened the past sale prices were reasonably low (£50/30 etc) as most people weren't going for Tri cardbacks as they had no interest in Trilogos or putting a set together, the rarity of the Jawa was still there of course but the amount of people searching one out was definitely lower than now. It seems that not only are Trilogos flavour of the month but cardbacks are too (just how many pages of posts on that RS thread??)

I have had to pay more than I have wanted to for several cards in the last couple of years, which kinda sucks especially as there seem to be more and more out there (guess high sales prices bring them out the woodwork)

There are two people on RS that have had 2 Jawa cards for sale in recent months, Michael Vogt being one of them. Yanice even had a Meccano version too and I know of several other sales that weren't so public so while I can certainly say they are out there to find/buy - people are quite happy to drop a big price on one just to get it out of the way and sellers know this so won't accept less.

Pains me to say it but..if you can't beat them - you kinda have to join them :( But I can definitely see the saving now in a $200 backer over a $2K MOC - children do that to you :)

Oh and AJ - If I ever happen (yeah right) to come into a spare Tri Jawa/Madine or Fett backer I will gladly sell them to you for mates rates just to add fuel to the conspiracy theory that in fact we are in on it together

There's an interesting trilogo on ebay at the moment (sorry not good at hyperlinks, technical things like that, need practice  )

It's a Trilogo Leia Original Clipper (stickers front and back) but card and bubble are quite battered about.

Is it worth £70 the seller is asking? as it quite rare isn't it??? BTW Seller is from Netherlands

It's a rare figure on a rare clipper offer stickered card but it is battered beyond belief.

I turned the same figure down a few days ago at 45 euros so..go figure

Ultimately it could be a decent gap filler but nothing more, the minute you get it you would want to upgrade it IMO *unless of course you aren't bothered on condition*

I probably would have bought it as you say as a gap filler until something better came along, thankfully I've got a decent one already.

Was just curious about the Clipper offer/sticker on such a rare card etc, shame it's in such poor condition for a unusual combination.

Thanks for the info Joe
