I think people are forgetting how **** some of the ROTJ figures are. There are quite a few that are so rubbish they're not even worth the postage - you almost have to give them away :)

I think each 'release' has a bunch of **** figures but for me ROTJ are by far and away the best of the lot. Figures like Emperor's Royal Guard, Squid Head, Bib Fortuna, Gamorrean Guard, Luke Jedi, Leia Boushh, Lando Skiff and a couple if others are just unbeatable figures.

I agree with you there - they are awesome. Dont forget Biker Scout too!

But then there's

LOGRAY
KLAATU
REBEL COMMANDO
WEEQUAY
GENERAL MADINE
REE-YEES
NIEN NUMB
NIKTO
B-WING PILOT
TEEBO
PRUNE FACE
RANCOR KEEPER

LOGRAY - nothing wrong with this figure. One of the best of the Ewoks figs.
KLAATU - very underrated as an actual figure. Just not exciting from a collectors point of view. But try to look at this figure without prejudice. It's excellent.
REBEL COMMANDO - Agreed. Not the best.
WEEQUAY - Movie acurate and a decent scuplt. Nothing wrong with him at all.
GENERAL MADINE - Crap.
REE-YEES - Not the most exciting figure but decent enough. Can never rightly be called a bad figure.
NIEN NUMB - As above.
NIKTO - Agreed. Crap.
B-WING PILOT - Agreed. Terrible figure.
TEEBO -Decent enough for an Ewok figure.
PRUNE FACE - Agreed. This is not good.
RANCOR KEEPER - Fantastic figure. Not the most inspring character from the movie but remember, that's not what we're talking about. They got this one bang on imo.

As we said before each to their own, just not into jabbas possie, i think it just stems from me not being fond of them as a kid illl give you erg tbough cool ****er!

Yeah well that's a bit of a different matter. My opinion was one of a fan of all 3 films pretty much equally and someone who was at the right age to enjoy all 3 toy-line releases as a kid. I remember wanting Weequay and Klaatu so bad when i was a kid and altho they don't excite me much now as a collector i still think they're both very well made figures.

WOAH...The above statement is sooooooooo wrong on so many levels. I think its a case that you just don't like the movie so as a result don't like the figures. The sculpting quality clearly improved through all the films releases. ROTJ expanded the Star Wars universe by showing literally every alien your imagination could think of and Kenner produced a good proportion of them all with great sculpts and many with soft goods and removable accessories.

Name me any ROTJ figure from the 77back that is worse than Walrus man?

Good point. He makes Madine look like a master-peice.

When i said a lot of ROTJ figures are crap thats an opinion not a statement. When I said most of them are not worth the postage that's a fact. There are a lot that aren't worth more than three quid. And by the way who made sculpt the defining factor of what makes a good figure. The ROTJ line might have good sculpts but there are so many pointless back ground characters and too many ewoks. The weapons are crap too. Just a load of sticks and spears!

I like lot of the ROTJ figures but I would put the line on a close par with the POTF line. There were good ones and there were bad ones!

Have to disagree, as someone who has just recently completed a loose collection I've had to pay just as much for mint ROTJ figures as ANH/ESB. You can buy any figure for the cost of postage if you don't care about condition.

Accuracy of a sculpt can be measured, selecting characters because their cool or boring is subjective.

You say this like Kenner failed to make any of the main characters. Which ROTJ characters should Kenner have made?
If you want to discuss pointless background characters then how about the Powerdroid as we all remember those battle scenes right? What about snaggletooth? Oh wait he wasn't even in the movie. Well we can always reminisce about those magical play days with the blink and you miss it Deathstar droid

Well I don't think it's up to you to decide for everyone the defining factors of what makes a figure good. It's a subjective question so why shouldn't the defining factors be subjective too. It's all opinion - there is no right and wrong. There might even be lots of people with the same opinion that doesn't mean anyone else is wrong. Personally sculpt isn't too important to me. I mean a lot of Jabbas goons might have better sculpts and be more accurate than the Cantina aliens but I'd bet the Cantina aliens are more popular.

All lines have figures that can be considered good and bad. We were comparing ROTJ and POTF and my point was that I think both lines have some crap figures. Both have great figures as well no doubt. I wasn't making a comparison with SW wave figures but since you mention them I'm not a fan of Power Droid either. But I know 2 Power Droid focus collectors who love the little fella. I don't know many people with a Weequay, Nikto or Madine focus :)

And I'm afraid you're mistaken about the prices of ROTJ figures. You shouldn't be spending as much as ESB or SW wave figures on them. There are a handful worth over £10 but a good half of them sell well under £10. Even some of the better ones. I have a full loose mint set too and have sold close to £4,000 of loose figures since the start of this year and I didn't make much of that money selling Jabbas goons.

Love this discussion as there is no right or wrong answers, only opinions!

Personally for me a lot of the ROTJ figures are dross - I understand what someone said about some of the ROTJ figures not worth the postage, when I first got back into collecting Leia Boussh and Klaatus were a bane of my life!

Technically, the sculpts of the ROTJ figures are better, but figures like Klaatu, Nikto and Nein Numb lack the character of the early figures such as Walrus Man, Hammerhead and Snaggletooth.

Some of the last 17 were poorly executed, but I don't think they're necessarily bad figures. I mean I was surprised to know of the dislike of Anakin especially as the same people liked the Imperial Dignitary!

I'd love to know what Edd's views of Luke Farmboy and Darth Vader are!

For my tuppence-worth, I dislike the 'molded' cape style figs - Emporer, Anakin and Imp Dig. They are at odds with the vinyl or cloth capes the rest had. Gotta say I really like many on the ROTJ figs, reckon Pete's assement of them is about on the money. Plus, the background characters add colour and variety to the line, making it a rich environment. Have to stand up for Power droid too, always had affection for the fig and the clicky legs add to the 'droid' feel.

Although General Lando is a well executed figure, he's a bit redundant as ESB Lando is a super fig, and more in keeping with those earlier in the run. Why they made another Lando instead of Stormie Han I'll never understand. More Ewoks were really unecessary. As others have mentioned, the muscley figs aren't great to my eyes. Nikto is a stunner compared to Barada and his awful colour scheme and He-man sculpt. Yak, EV and Amanaman on the other hand, are all brilliant to me.

Great thread, very enjoyable to see everyones views. :)

Snaggletooth was in Episode IV albeit blink and you miss him

The character Snaggletooth that Hasbro made in 2012 was seen in Star Wars but not the short arse version that Kenner made.

Yeap it's original - I have sick friends!

Ok.......No long paragraphs...but I think the ROTJ line had some boring figures and play value was limited. Sculpt wise...nothing more impressive than the original line.............then again ESB had FX-7 and Bespin guard....what the **** am I supposed to do with these two idiots???...Lobot   (Merry Xmas Todd.....Todd opens package....FX-7.....Mom...this silver dildo has arm things).......then again....the fist line had Power Droid........wait....Franks gonna give me his wrath.....Dammit this was a paragraph

Yes quite! All these claims that ROTJ had some boring or crap figures (which i agree with by the way, never said it didn't) but it seems to be suggesting the other lines didn't!
SW - Walrus Man, Greedo for starters. I think 2 or 3 of the first 12 are pretty crap too but i think i'm alone in that. Nostalgia trumps quality.
ESB - (jeeez here we go) Bespin Guard Black, Bespin Guard White, FX7, Lobot, Ugnaught, Liea Hoth (sorry i'm not a fan. Worst Liea?), ATA Commander and Imperial Commander are both a little naff.
ROTJ granted had a whole bunch of average figures but there are more figures in this line so it's understandable but my argument has always been that it has the best figures in this line.
ESB has a few good figures but how many great ones?? Yoda. After that i'm struggling. Anyone?
SW grandted has a few classics. R2, Stormtrooper, Jawa, R5D4, DSD, Fett (i'm not in the camp that counts Vader and Luke farmboy)
ROTJ - Emperor's Royal Guard, Gamorrean Guard, Squid Head, Biker Scout, Bib Fortuna, Luke Jedi, Leia Boushh, Lando Skiff and don't kill me but... Wicket. Forget whether you like Ewoks or not. This figure is awesome.

I love all the first 20; can't believe you dislike Greedo! And Walrusman, despite his gay pride outfit is awesome!
I was never that keen on Han and Luke Hoth figures as a kid - never liked how you couldn't put Han's gun in its holster - massive error on Kenner's part there I think!
I think I must be in a minority in thinking Boussh and Lando Skiff weren't that great as if you lost the helmets their play value was limited.

.

Greedo, Walrus Man, Han, Vader all pretty naff figures to be honest. And Luke Farmboy Luke X-Wing and Ben aren't much better.

Yes you are. They're brilliant.

Yeah, same problem if you lose Fett's head. Or Amanaman's torso. Really limits the enjoyment.
