The last 17 - I just cant do it .........just cant

Remember seeing all the last 17 on the pegs including Yak Face, whom I didn't like at all.

Interesting, as others have said my memory of the late 80s is row after row of Bib Fortuna and Ree Yees  I really wanted a Luke X Wing and Biker Scout, couldn't find either in any of the shops.

At the time I bought a few last 17 figures before moving onto transformers, the ones I had were:

Imperial Dignitary
R2D2 pop up sabre
Luke Poncho
Luke Stormie
Romba

I think distribution issues played a part in peoples choices. I mean why the hell would I have chosen the Imperial Dignity over Han Solo in Carbonite?! Or Romb over EV-9D9?! I never saw them in the shops at the time.

Had all of the Last 17 pass through my hands since I started collecting again, and only realised there were so many at that time. Never noticed the buffness of Barada or Han before but it does seem to forshadow the awful POTF2 and onwards crap.

I love the fact their reasoning for that was because Wrestling figures were big at the time (were they? Wasn't that 92-93 anyway?) Er, that's because they are wrestlers, not normal people! What would they have done if POTF2 was released in 87, put holograms on their chests!?

I think because i missed out on them as a child it has probably made them even more desirable to obtain

The last 17 or 15 have some of the best figures and some of the very worse

Luke Stormtrooper, EV9D9 and Imperial Gunner are a few of my personal favourites, however Anakin, Awing pilot, Imp Dig are ****.

I personally prefer most of the earlier figures, don't like a lot of Jabbas henchmen etc.

I agree that they have some of the best and worst. Luke Stormtrooper, Ev-9D9 & Imperial Gunner are awesome. So is Luke Poncho although he'd be better if his hat was removable. Lando general is pretty cool with the material cape. R2D2 Pop up saber is probably one of my favourite figures ever and I love the Glasslite R2 pop up saber variation too.

As for the Ewoks, I dont mind them. Romba and Warok are better than Teebo and Logray with their stupid hats that fall off. A-Wing Pilot looks a lot better than the bright Red B-Wing pilot. And Yak Face is on a par with most of Jabba's goons and being the last figure produced adds a certain mystique like the Blue Snaggletooth IMO.

I personally really like Anakin and the Imperial Dignitary. i really like their sculpt which is similar to the Emperor sculpt and could have been the same sculpt they used for Luke Jedi in Robes.

There are only 3 I don't like too much. Han Carbonite and Barada with their stupid looking WWF style sculpts and that great hunk of bright yellow crap Amanamanana.

So 12 out of 15 is pretty good. POTF is one of my favourite lines. IMO there are more dodgy looking ROTJ figures. The ROTJ line had too many Jabba's goons and too many ewoks.

Yeah I never bought that wrestling excuse either.I remember being at University and someone said they had seen some new Star Wars figures. So I was pretty excited and jumped on the bus at the weekend to go to a Toys R Us. Took a while to get there still excited walked in found the orange cards and started dry wretching. Something was very ****ing wrong indeed

Couldn't believe it I was disgusted my mate bought Vader and I went home very disappointed. Still I heard Lucas was re-releasing the OG trilogy with new footage so I had that to look forward to :?

I'd moved onto other things before the POTF range hit the shops, girls and beer if I remember rightly :D

When I got back into collecting the 90's I remember ringing some guy whose advert I'd seen in the local paper. When I got there the stuff was sold but all over his bedroom floor, including a bright yellow amanaman. I was like "wtf is that?" but he wouldn't take it out of the lot for me ... I'd never seen any of the 15 but grew to love Luke Stormy, Luke Jedi, Amanaman, Imp Gunner. Some are lame but way less lame figures than ROTJ.

From an collectors perspective, they do hold their value well and they've got that mystique about them even though there are always a lot around.

I then start to see other POTF figures going for sale and my initial impressions of these figures is similar to my impression of YAK face. I simply could not bring myself to like them, I just couldnt. To me and I hope I dont offend others that like them , they look C*@p. This is a subjective view of course. I get they are rare , I get they command a high price but I just cannot bring myself to like them or ever want to collect them., ever :x

I think the last 17 is a mixture of some of the best and some of the worst Star Wars figures in the line. I must say simply not remembering Yak Face doesn't make him **** that's just a personal thing. I remember him from when i was a kid and i remember him from the film. The Jabba's palace scene was and still is my favourite scene in Star Wars so i'm personally glad they ended up making figures Like Yak Face, Amanaman and EV9D9 and those last 2 i'd say are both near perfect figures. Yak Face is an acquired taste but i personally love him. I always liked the weirder (alien) looking figures- Bib Fortuna, Squid Head, Gamorrean Guard, Amanaman, Yak Face and so on so he's right up my street.
But i think the "human" figures from the last 17 are a huge failure. Han Solo in Carbonate is a joke and Anakin is arguable the worst figure of the entire line. By quite a way. I've never been a fan of Luke Stormtrooper either. He's WAY to bulky and like Han has an inexplicably fat head. And Luke Endor is just crap.
See one of the main things that usually bothers me with figures is when they're not movie accurate. So Yak Face, Amanaman, The Ewoks, even Imperial Dignitary all pass with flying colours in my book.

If i were to rate each Last 17 figure out of 10:

R2 (with pop-up lightsabre) - 7.5
(cool. but not an exciting enough variation and the lack of his 3rd wheel by the 3rd incarnation of the figure still annoys me)
A-Wing Pilot - 5
(Just a dull figure. Nothing interesting about him and a little too bulky like the other Last 17 "human" figures)
Han (in Carbonate) - 4
(Love the idea but the figure is ****. Has a really fat head and neck and bizarrely, no eye-brows)
Imperial Dignitary - 6.5
(Not the most exciting or attractive figure but fairly movie accurate and helps make a cool Death Star Emperor's room scene)
Imperial Gunner - 6.5
(should have been a lot cooler but again, too bulky for me.)
Luke Skywalker - 7
(awesome idea to do this variation but he's too bulky and in Luke's case that's more ridiculous than any other character. Has a fat head too.)
Anakin - 0
(Literally can't find anything positive or necessary to say about this figure)
Amanaman - 9.5
(a near perfect figure. The way he has to hold his "weapon" 3 feet in front of him annoys me ever so slightly)
Barada - 6
(after Klaatu, Weequay and Nikto this was a pretty unecessary one tho the same could be said for all the Ewoks. Still he's relatively movie accurate and if you're a 'Jabba's palace' fan like me he adds to the whole 'creating a scene' fun)
EV9D9 - 9
(awesome figure. Looks stunning. Limbs fall off tho which is annoying as a collector)
Lando Calrissian (Pilot) - 8
(pretty cool looking figure considering the other shoddy "human" character attempts in the Last 17. Still a bit bulky tho not as bad as Han or Luke Stormtrooper)
Luke (Poncho) - 4
(pretty crappy figure imo. I think it's the naff hat that is a moulded poart of the head. Just unforgivably lazy and tight)
Romba - 7.5
(yet another Ewok. But like all the Ewok figures really well sculpted and pretty movie accurate. I really like Romba)
Warok - 4.5
(This was an insultingly cheap rehash of Lumat. Has always annoyed me how little difference there is between the 2. One Ewok too far? )
Yak Face - 8
(Love Yak Face. Always wanted one as a kid after i saw a friends but never got one. I've always thought he was a little too big tho. Other than that pretty movie accurate and very cool looking imo cos when it comes to the Jabba's palace figures- the weirder the better ;) 8) )

I reckon you should do one for the other 79 figures Pete

Ah maaaan....
Seriously tho i'd better not. People won't like my scores for Vader and Luke Farmboy *ducks for cover*

JUst goes to show how different people's tastes are, which is a good thing. Vader and Luke Farmboy are 2 of my favourites purely because they look comical :)

I love them.

When I collected them- they truly were rare and this holy grail status has stuck with me.

Back then- the idea of getting a full set of POTF last 17 MOCs was total fantasy, not even an option.

The fact I 'had all the Star Wars toys' as a kid and had never heard or seen 14 of them, kick started my collecting.

Could of been a rock star, could of...... :?

I never knew they were produced until a few yrs ago either, im with edd together with rotj figs ( with exception of biker scout) they never caught my eye. The only figs from the last 17 i like are luke stormy yakman imperial gunner and r2. Just wish they made a han stormie.

I think people are forgetting how **** some of the ROTJ figures are. There are quite a few that are so rubbish they're not even worth the postage - you almost have to give them away :)

I think each 'release' has a bunch of **** figures but for me ROTJ are by far and away the best of the lot. Figures like Emperor's Royal Guard, Squid Head, Bib Fortuna, Gamorrean Guard, Luke Jedi, Leia Boushh, Lando Skiff and a couple if others are just unbeatable figures.

Agree with you to a point Pete, but I think certain earlier figures have more of a 'classic' or 'vintage' feel about them that many collectors will always put ahead of any ROTJ figure.

I agree with you there - they are awesome. Dont forget Biker Scout too!

But then there's

LOGRAY
KLAATU
REBEL COMMANDO
WEEQUAY
GENERAL MADINE
REE-YEES
NIEN NUMB
NIKTO
B-WING PILOT
TEEBO
PRUNE FACE
RANCOR KEEPER

That's just a nostalgia thing. Has nothing to do with the actual figures.

As we said before each to their own, just not into jabbas possie, i think it just stems from me not being fond of them as a kid illl give you erg tbough cool ****er!
