Talk about new Star Wars movie, do not read if you have NOT seen it

Absolutely Loved it!! Solid 9/10 from me.

Daisy Ridley was absolutely fantastic as Rey and as mentioned what wouldnt you do to her?! :D

Yes there were negatives and I totally and absolutely get them but this felt much more like a Star Wars Film than any of the three prequels. It was absolute streets ahead and I concur in Joe in that you can turn it on after ROTJ and it wouldn't look out of place.

Finn and Poe were great. R2 and Chewie played greats parts too. The MF was awesome!

Yes Plasma was a massive disappointment. I agree in that it was a just a marketing ploy to find a "New Boba Fett". The lack of screen time and no words from Luke was another bugbear too.

In summary it was a good film that I really enjoyed and it had me engrossed from minute one until the end. So it's a success for me. Its certainly left more questions unanswered than answered though. What's the history of RenSnoke and Poe?

Great thread BTW. Fascinating to read all the different views. Saw it on the Midnight showing and will be going to see it again in 2D.

Oh and Congrats to SWFUK on the 10 year anniversary too! Apologies for not being on here much of late. Will be back in 2016.

Watched it last night. Let's face it, matching up to the originals was an impossible task. I loved the first 30 minutes or so, the opening crawl described a Star Wars film unlike the prequels that all read like a morning in Parliament. It took quite a while before anything cringe-worthy happened, which is quite impressive.

As others have said, why oh why all the lame in-jokes. The prequels were slaughtered for doing it, and JJ fell in to the same trap. Just because we're Star Wars fans doesn't mean we need jokes about par secs or re-hashed corny lines. I know it's a difficult balance to get right, but surely they should have given the audience a bit more credit.

It was a bit too Harry Potter in places, which the OT were not. I mean the ground splitting between Ren and Ray at the end, come on.

I like the new 'good' characters, I thought Kylo Ren was good until he took his mask off. The new 'Emperor' is ****, as is the politically correct female Stormtrooper.

Most of the scenes looked great, the CGI is generally good. But I agree there should have been no CGI characters.

As many have said I'm gutted Han died and in such a lame way. I reckon Ford wasn't prepared to sign up for all the new films, he's always been pretty reluctant to do Star Wars again from what I've heard. So maybe they didn't have a choice.

I was surprised how 'scary' it was, I jumped at a few things, maybe because it was so loud. But I don't think I would take a child to see it.

Overall, 7 out of 10 from me. Didn't hate all of it, enjoyed some of it, and could have been a lot worse. I can't believe some people are saying it's as good or better than ROTJ, no chance!

And I'm going to watch it again later today :)

8/10 and really enjoyed it. 3D very good, will try and watch IMAX 3D after Christmas.

It has many flaws but way better than the episodes that shall not be named!

Above all else it reinforced just how magnificent SW,ESB & ROTJ are.

Did anyone else spot the Jedi training ball Finn threw/disregarded in the Millennium falcon? Sadly, I don't think they used the classic Wilhelm scream

Wilhelm scream was defiantly on there. I heard it when Finn an Poe were escaping but the Tie fighter was still attached, then Finn shoots the stormtroopers from within the Tie fighter :D

Something probably only a vintage toy collector would notice...

... but i'll be damned if one of the characters wasn't wearing 4-Lom armour.

Anyone else spot it?

Im confused
Is snoke a giant or was that just the size of the hologram ?? It would be funny if he turned out to be yoda size
I enjoyed it !a few times i saw a lot of resemblence to ANH and couldnt help but feel lucas influence in the quick cuts to cgi monsters etc.. a very rushed plot in some cases but
Its a STAR WARS movie and every movie has its flaws especially when it has the OT to live up too..
Looking forward to the next one

Phew, that's a relief... Might have to go watch it for a third time to listen out for it

so this snoke fella? whats his story ?my mate reckons hes palpatine

My money is on him turning out to be darth plagueis.

Could be, it would follow, as Plageius supposedly has the secret of bringing the dead back, as per the storyline of palpatines offer to Anakin.

Where do we stand on Rey? Lukes Daughter? That would fit, reference to the rebellion helmet, her ability to fix things and scavenge parts, and of course the calling of Lukes saber to her, (plus the"awakening" in her of the force)

I soooo need to watch it again :D

I feel unsure about Ray's stance - Would being Luke's daughter be too obvious? Perhaps Han and Leia's daughter (Kylo Ren's twin). It would explain why Han and Leia broke up, and of course that super emotional hug between Leia and Ray... Maybe they were separated because Han and Leia were trying to save Ben (Kilo Ren) But thing's turned horribly wrong, so to protect Ray they sent here away... Also, the calling of the Saber would work as well as it is part of Leia's DNA too. Just my overanalised thought

After thought, maybe she's not Han's daughter at all  Maybe she's only Leia's daughter with a different farther!... Hopefully we find out in 17 months, but until then my mind will continue to work in overdrive.

Thank goodness for that - finally managed to watch it over here - amazed that it came out later in the US than pretty much the rest of the world -so much for the US being the centre of the universe !

Knew this thread existed and have just read through it - disappointed to see some of the bickering/name calling - I do believe that opinions are like arseholes - everyone has one - but lets just respect each persons - opinion that is - not arsehole

For me it was a true Star Wars film - it really had the feel of a Star Wars film and I could happily sit and watch that on Christmas afternoon with a belly full of turkey and christmas pud. OK, there was a rehash of the original plot and some of the action was a bit of a stretch (lightsabre battle) - but come on we're talking about Star Wars here - everything has always been a bit far fetched and anyone believing otherwise is not remembering correctly

I thought the acting on the whole was a million times better than the prequals - not seeing the 'flatness' at all - both Finn and Rey and Finn and Poe have some great chemistry - and loads to explore. I did think Ren could have been better but I think the spoiled, sulky teenager theme has always run through SW so no major surprise. One funny thing that the wife of a friend mentioned was that Adam Driver looks nothing like like the offspring of Han and Leia - far too ugly apparently !

I expected it to be good based on the trailers and wasn't disappointed - there were plenty of nods to original fans without them being shoe-horned in (love the MF chess board) but I also think it works as a standalone film for new fans. I am going to take little one to see it as it will be a great first ever film for her to watch and I am sure that a new generation of fans has just been born

I am glad lane that you finally saw it and the us can't be the centre of the universe all the time

I think the film was fantastic 9.5 from me and I would have given it 10 if solo was not killed. I think they could have waited with that until episode 9.

I agree a million times better than episode 1,2 and 3. But not as good as episode 4,5 and 6. I don't think any star wars movie will be as good as them.

Blue dog that was spot on dude...exactly on the new races! I was talking to someone at work about it and said I don't feel I've really got to know a new race. I was watching and with my class yesterday to do a Star Wars day for them and as I was watching I thought there were no jawas, knowing a little of the,, their language....

And agree on Han, that's what's taken away from me more than anything. I wanted to see Han saving him again at some point, at the smile of reunion between the two friends...

I think I saw some jawas on that desert planet, but I am not sure. Maybe they just used jawa cloth

I too would have loved to see Han Solo in at least one more episode...but I can imagine that perhaps he's had enough of Star Wars now...and has the Indy and Deckard roles to reprise...

In my opinion, Han Solo's send off was a well orchestrated and superbly presented scene - would have been absolutely perfect had Kylo Ren put the mask back on immediately after killing his father but still...

I think the reason they had Kylo removed his helmet was purely based on how emotional the Han death scene was. You had to see the face reaction for a real impact, something you would get from behind a mask... Also, the reason he removed it for the Ray scene was so you already knew what he looked like and wouldn't have been distracted by it during the Han scene. Nonetheless I thought Adam Driver's acting was fantastic.

I understand that and wrote something similar earlier in the thread...personally, I just think that putting the mask back on after the deed would have made him darker...his falability is patent when unmasked though, clearly why Abrams went that way...a great scene for me anyway...

Regarding the loss of Han (still feels wrong to type that...) I would like to see Lando back in the cockpit of the Falcon for Episode VIII...perhaps he would bring some comfort to Chewy...and the fans, of course...

He should have put the mask back on because his face got f*cked up afterwards

I still think that Rey will turn out to be Lukes daughter.

Left on a desert planet, awaiting her family return ...... Luke left on Tatooine
Reys Affinity with bb8 droid.......luke and R2d2
Reys awakening of the force........luke has that force awakening as well
The rey scene with the rebellion helmet.....Luke rebellion xwing pilot

Loads of reasons why I need to watch it again.

I know they are not supposedly referencing EU, but hey they call Kylo Ren Ben ( Ben is Lukes son in EU...that messed my head up  ).

I think they have left it for the second film to introduce a backstory with a female character married to luke who have Rey as a daughter, that female character ( Mara Jade in EU) dies/killed ...by Ben as he turns to the dark side and becomes kylo Ren ( who was being trained at the academy by Luke), luke then goes to the island full of guilt and remorse, hence the final scene with Rey ( where you notice luke has tears in his eyes)

Just a theory but may be miles out.

Kylo Ren was definitely far more menacing and interesting with his mask on so I agree he should have put it back on after killing Han. Come to think of it, I didn't even see him pick it up off the floor so he's probably lost it now!
