£115 in the pot now!!!

Ooooooh thats a bit of wonga :D :D :D :D :D :D

But less chance of winning :( :( :( :( :( :(

True Junior but you gotta be in it to win it, and think of how you would feel if you won. You got a MOC figure or a couple of figures worth over £100 for a 5er!

Did you here about the Eskimo Lottery?

You gotta be Inuit to win it :D :D :D

Only playing about the number of entries, the more the merrier and like you say a bigger prize :p

I'm not going to change the rules for this competition half way through, but maybe in future I'll cap the number of entries.

Perhaps for the next one instead of limiting entries and having people felt left out you could make 100 or 150 pounds the breaking point to start funding a second place prize. That would keep the odds of winning favourable and prevent people from being turned off from the contest if they are unable to join because of a cap.

Not a bad idea! Cheers.

I've just chucked my fiver in the pot.

I'm after anything on its earliest cardback, as in a DSC on a SW 12,20 or 21 back would be great.

Entries are limited?? Why??
I thought 20 was just a rough estimate of the amount of people we expected to play. Why on earth would there be a limit?

Don't worry the rules for this particular competition will not be changing.

The argument for a cap of entries is that the more people enter, the less likely you are to win. So it's a trade off between likelihood of winning, and prize fund. 20 was just an estimate, but if 100 people enter I think it would make the next competition less inviting to most (although I'm sure the winner would love their £500 MOC  )

It's just open to discussion, so interested to hear people's preference. more chance of winning, or higher prize fund.

That makes no sense to me whatsoever. Anyone on the forum who wants to play should be able to play. Whether it's 10 people or 50. You could also argue that the more people play the better the prize will be so altho you have less chance of winning you are playing for a bigger prize. I don't think anyone here would have a problem with that. This thing has never really been about trying to win something but more creating a bit of fun for the forum.

agreed :)

1 suggestion. I run a football predictions league each year and usually the prize pot is pretty big (Liam just won the Euro 2012 game a scooped £180) but there is also a 2nd prize and if we get enough runners, a small prize for 3rd.
Tho this means a lot more ****ing around, if you really are concerned with incentive then this could be a way to make it work. Depending on how many people play you have a 1st and 2nd prize. The split being about 70%-30%.
Personally i think 1 prize is fine but only if everyone can play. If you're playing people out because more people lessens the chance of winning then a 2nd prize is the way solve that rather than not letting people play.

I'd prefer more chance of winning. Say- up to 30 entrants ( 150 pound MOC or MOCs or cash  ) then smaller prizes after that ( 50 pound intervals ) It's fun regardless :)

Exactly my point  Everyone will have a different opinion on it, which is fine. And as stated several times I won't be changing the rules mid-way through this game, so don't worry. It's not a way to exclude people, it's a potential way to make future competitions more attractive. And it probably won't even happen.

Looks like hard work moderating this lot, I would keep the money and do a runner if I was you

Probably best just to see how the first one goes to be honest! Personally I like the bigger first prize the better approach, I might end up with something I'd never be able to afford otherwise and will make the final prize more interesting whoever wins.

VLIX MOC please.

Edited

I am with you on the no limits to entries, if we had a huge pot I would be for maybe adding a second prize or just one bumper prize rather than a cap on entries. But we all have opinions and James' is just as valid as yours and mine, just pointing out the problems with running something like this and keeping everyone happy. Good thing is on here most people are happy, and like you say its all for a bit of fun so hopefully Edd won't get too stressed making these decisions.

See you in the 'hat' and may the best 'randomly selected by a computer generated random selection programme' person win :D :D

?? Some confusion here. I did not say to limit the number of entrants at all, I don't even know where that came from ??
"I'd prefer more chance of winning. Say- up to 30 entrants ( 150 pound MOC or MOCs or cash ) then smaller prizes after that ( 50 pound intervals ) It's fun regardless "

I'm a convict so my english is not so gooder :p

I'll have another go- (this is just my opinion/suggestion) Up to 30 entrants there is one prize. If there are more than 30 entrants all money above 150 pounds goes to a second prize. Once we hit 40 entrants the second prize is 50 pounds, more than 40 entrants there will be a third prize.......

That kind of make sense now??
Edit: this concept of more chances of winning wasn't even my idea- it was Edd's who is running this gig- I was just choosing one of his options :D

But i won't be taking part while there's a limit. It's absurd and i wouldn't want to take someone else's spot. I would only be entering for fun. Not to win.

Where did you get that idea from though mate? There is no limit. Anybody can enter this competition, provided they enter before next Friday (which is so there's a deadline, not to limit/exclude people.) So it would be a shame if you didn't based on that principal.

I am merely entertaining the possibility of a limit or multiple prizes for the 'next' competition, should this one attract a lot of entries (much more than it currently has) and therefore putting some people off due to the reduced chance of winning. I agree with you though, I'm sure most people are/will be entering just for a bit of fun, not because they're counting on winning.

Lol, Sorry you have been the victim of a Kangaroo Court. Banged to rights on the crimes and reputaions of your ancestors, lucky you didn't get banned :D :D :D

Sorry for any confusion.
