So what's the protocol here?

I think Joe and Ed are absolutely correct. Anything on eBay is fair game, if the seller is not prepared to do the research then tough luck. Anyway surely it's better it is bought by a fellow forum member than a serial flipper and Max is a good guy who has been collecting Star Wars for longer than most on SWFUK.

An even better score than the Han Bespin was the Luke Bespin 45a for £30 which I would happily have paid £250 for. I missed out by minutes, I was tempted to offer £200 for it, but I thought good luck to whoever won it. The seller though had some strange prices. If you look now he still has stuff for sale from the same batch which is ridiculously overpriced. His pricing policy was bizarre to say the least.

I managed to snap up a ROTJ Luke Bespin MOC off him for £15 inc. postage. First of all the seller sent it in a jiffy bag!! I opened the bubble just enough to pull the Luke out (there were no weapons), upgraded my loose Luke Bespin for a mint one and stuck the cardback and semi-attached bubble back on ebay and got £32 back. Happy days :D
My dengar 45 german pali moc came in a jiffy bag the bubble had lift in in the listing picture. And i was half expecting to find it loose when opening it Luckily because it had a crushed bubble in first place safed it and it survived :)

I have to say I half expected it and wasn't too fussed as I was just after the figure. It survived the post OK - luckily for us!

I do wonder sometimes what sort of utopian society people believe that this hobby operates in.

Yes, it is annoying that the guy picked up something you wanted at an amazing price, and even more annoying that he put it up for sale and nearly 10 times the price he paid.... but what would you have done if you'd seen something (non-star wars related) in an open market place that 1) you didn't need but 2) you knew was massively under-priced. I would think like most you would buy it and then put it up for sale for it's true price - possibly even to fund your next Star Wars purchase

Hey Iain. Fair points. Again, this is why I decided to ask on here about collectors protocol, as after I posted it it occurred to me there is more to this, and I would need to know myself for this reason, such as the example you give - I get a bargain, not my interest, so I will sell at market price. I wanted to know because although I am not looking to find bargains that are not SW related, but I might get a SW item that doesn't fit my collection - boxed ship, loose figure etc and want to sell that to one of you lot without being seen as a greedy flipper.

Gotta be careful on here - you think you're doing good, but you can miss the point completely :D

I think your thread is a fair enough question, the problem lies with the other linked post in the eBay section, which I think gave this thread an altogether different tone hence some of the not so considered responses from others.

I don't know what to do there now - delete it? or can that only be done by mods?

I think only Mods can delete threads. Just send a quick message to Edd if you feel the need.

I've locked the thread, but don't think there's anything in there to warrant deleting it. I think it was a fair observation and nobody knew it was a forum member.

So Joe asked about price.

Can't find it on phone now but there is/was a much nicer one for £270 available. The non- debut 45a's don't get the same premium and it's not a rare one.

I picked up a second AFA85 one round Xmas for under £250.

All facts, no opinions :D

Edit: it was the German seller kult-corner and is sold now.

To add a little more about my 'flipping' ethics - I recently agreed a sale on something I bought a few months ago on the forum. Before I sold it, I pm'd the guy I bought it from to say I was going to sell and probably above what I paid (it was party cheap and partly increased in value) and suggested we split the 'profit'.

What a monster I am.

That's the reason I wanted to add in this question regarding the buying/selling ethics. I was annoyed seeing a figure I would have kept for myself sold to someone who then resold it for more, but it eventually occurred to me that firstly the person might need the money for something, and secondly, I would have no idea what to do myself if a bargain came up. ie a Star Wars item that doesn't fit my collection, I bought it, then decided to sell it on at a profit.

D

I actually bought it with the intention of keeping it and adding more 45a's - however a good friend collects them and I wouldn't want to be going head-to-head against him for the same stuff, which was one reason for selling it. Mainly though, I decided to get into the 41 backs much more heavily - so decided to rationalise a bit.

As well as this, I've sold/am selling various boxed vehicles, rare MOCs and other bits and pieces - most I've owned for a good while (lost money on a couple of sales but didn't cry about it - which I suppose is the other side of the same coin).

Fair play Max, I ended up with the 45b Han Hoth and for £35 it was a decent buy, given the rarity of the card, like others have said, if you didn't snap it up it would have gone within minutes.

I think we all in our time have bagged a bargain, and sold it in to make a profit on something else you have your eye on, I've done it myself in the past, and I would do it again given the opportunity.

As for the point of the other 45a Han, I saw that and thought that Was a bargain also at £270, given the condition....

Roll on vectis on Tuesday.....

I also agree that if max hadn't bought it then someone else would of and probably done the same. It's first come first serve with ebay and I guess the only slight disappointment is that someone who would have kept it didn't buy it first as I'm sure there would have been a lot of praise from members on here if it had gone to a forum members collection.

It does seem like some of the other ones form the same seller are in peoples collections now so it's all swings and roundabouts and I'd still rather something was bought and sold for a profit by a member on here to fund another vintage Star Wars purchase than go to someone with no other interest than making money, at least it didn't end up in their hands this time around :D

Ian

I agree too im afraid, the guy saw a bargain and wanted to boost his collecting funds, we are all human and the hobby is hard to enjoy with prices rising.

Great scores there guys 8) seller is a fool for not doing his research but one's man's loss is another's gain and we've all probably benefited on good deals over the years and perhaps sold some stuff on undervalue so it's swings and roundabouts really, it's not like Max is trying to move the MOC on for an outrageous price!

I'd say fair play and you lucky bugger for being in the right place at the right time.

It is v easy for us collectors to initially react with our hearts rather than our heads :!:

Max done what most of us would have done on eBay, snap up a bargain 8) He didn't relist the Han immediately or for an extortionate price :!: As he says Vectis is coming up and this is an expensive hobby :!:

Just for the record I have been informed he is giving, YES GIVING the rare 45b Yoda to a fellow collector just because they have vivid childhood memories of having that particular MOC

Wow, giving, giving you say.

Fair play Max. Someone is getting a right rare treat with that card 8)

Max did I mention that when I was in hospital as a poor orphan I really wanted a Han Bespin ;)

In all seriousness nice to see some karma being passed around.

Ebay is fair game..I actually see way more ass ****ing in the FB groups myself (Price wise and Flipping). :p

Edit: In exception to the UK based ones.

You'd love it. It's a place where people get arse-raped for £10k, then turn to their rapist and say "sweet deal, let me shake your hand"
