Site Membership Proposal - What do you think?

I wouldn't call it a site membership or tie to the web site if I were you. The minute you have paying forum members you get a whole heap of hoops you have to jump through which you currently don't have to do.

Cash prize to buy a sw item is nice, but the excitement would be gone, I think it would be better if it was a secret prize,
the fact that you don't know what to win is half the fun. Or multiple prizes for 1st to 3rd place in the draw.

Thanks for the input guys, some interesting points raised by all! Let me address a few:

Membership: that was purely a way if disguising the fact it was a raffle. Apparently it's legal if no money is made, so let's call it a raffle.

Frequency: Quarterly would be less effort, but would people really want to send me £5 and then wait 3 months for the prize? I think monthly is fine, I imagine the majority of people will send the money on the first couple of days. How about we do it once, and depending on how much of a disaster it is, it either happens monthly or never again :lol:

Prize: I agree that a secret prize is more fun and cash is slightly dodgy, so how about deadline for money is 20th of the month, that then gives me 10 days to buy the prize.

I'm in if it's a secret prize, if the winner gets a piece he already has, with all the guys going to jump in, my guess it would be decent trade bait anyways!

I'd far prefer cash- the main reason being IF I was to win, a big chunk of the prize would be in postage. Postage to Ed & then to me (especially if it's tracked postage because no one wants to win a prize that gets lost in the mail). With cash I'd spend it locally & being an international forum this would apply to quite a few of us.

As a one off trial I'm happy to go with the flow.

I agree with that. Once you know exactly who's in you know how much you have to spend and you could just buy a nice last 17 figure or a moc or whatever. Anyone who wins is gonna be chuffed whatever. Much more fun than giving someone money. And do a "raffle" video like Ed did.
I must say i do think every month is a bit much. I'd rather pay more to enter and have it less often. Every 2 months?
That means you get 6 draws a year (frequent enough!) and if we pay a tenner or even say, £8 to enter, the prizes will be better and more worth winning.

This all seems to be getting rather complicated, why not all just send me a fiver each every month & I will spend it on something nice SW related & showcase it in the LA thread every month, that way you will all get the pleasure of seeing the prize each month

Plus if you set up a special Ebay account you'll have the problem of items going to different addresses every month. more hassle. It's probably easier to just send the winner the money, with the idea that he spends it on SW, if he wants to spend it on drugs and whores so be it.

I send stuff to several addresses via my ebay account. It's no issue whatsoever. You just change the address on the invoice.

Whatever the **** you do, DO NOT put on the paypal gift payment anything to do with it being a raffle.
When we get the PayPal addy to send to that is.
I just remember John on TIG getting grief from PayPal for doing this as people were sending the money and in the message part writing "for the raffle" etc.
