I'd have kept it even to stuff in the loft than let it go for that price!

It really depends on how poor the computer was and what spec, you can upgrade them for next to nothing, they come in useful for extra storage or hosting ftp or websites (if you have the room)
If it was 1k to start with it must be upgradeable, but sometimes you just want to cut your losses i suppose, the hard drive alone would probably have been worth half the sale price.
