I normally avoid reproduction weapons like the plague but I made an exception not too long ago when I bought an R2D2 without a pop-up saber, so I bought my first repro, just so he displayed nicely while I looked for a genuine one. Anyway, after listening to a SWFUK podcast episode, I heard one of the guests describing some reproduction double telescoping lightsabers they'd bought from the UK and had shipped over to the states. So, I did an eBay search and ended up buying a set out of curiosity. I was really pleased with the quality of them and to be honest, a little surprised as well. I just wondered if anyone else had bought them and what your thoughts were about them.

I have an early set hidden away from the early days when they had no markings on them

It's a fair question. Banning of items for sale shouldn't remove all discussion of them.

I did contemplate them for these figures as I thought I'd never get originals. I did get them all in the end so didn't bother with reproductions.

I can understand why someone would.

As always the issue is them being sold as real and coming someone. Though it would be crazy to buy originals without a coa

It's all down to you and what you want out your collecting. Personally I wouldn't as I want an 100% original collection. Mostly due OCD and the other just contempt for the bastards who load up figures with repro to sell on.

Kinda understand the double telescoping Sabres as they are so few and you'd have to be a dick to hand over the kinds of cash they command without being 100% certain they weren't repro.

Like I said though, not something I'd be interested in.

For me these sit in the same category as Poons Vlix and Orme's customs - at the end of the day, in their current state then they can't be confused for vintage as soon as they are in hand - however, supporting these guys - Re-valueIT, Orme and Poon only encourages them to go further and as we have seen with things like Poon's Stormtrooper, getting close to the real thing is not hard

In addition all three of the guys mentioned have been noted as supplying items that aren't marked as reproduction and in this case then I think no money should be given to them because of the damage they have already done

That said, everyone is welcome to buy what they want and in a way I get why people want a repro DT as they are out of the price-range of most collectors and do look good on display

As Gary says, just because we have banned the sale of them doesn't mean that the pitchforks should be out when people ask genuine questions like this

Can I just say that Leon is asking a question here which many newbies would ask. It'd be better for these questions to be asked so that newbies and lurkers can be educated and not destroyed.

Leon, personally I don't like these. I have no interest in repro items regardless of the scarcity of the originals. I can understand why others do. However, every penny you give to scumbags like RevalveIT is another penny that they have to invest in better technology to produce more weapons which are closer to the real thing.

I avoid anything with Poon, Orme, RevalveIT which can be grouped together.

In my "defense", in light of current events, OPs post seemed like it was written to be offensive...

Repro, don't buy, don't sell..

Sorry Jorn should have made it clear I was pre-empting what may happen and not responding to comments above which seemed fair.

shite :( having one of them in my collection would bug the **** out of me,just because i know its fake
i cant really afford to be paying the silly money that the real deal goes for and so would not bother with one.
i am happy with the normal sabers :D

It's all about transparency. If you want to use a display of figures to help remember a happy childhood, repro is perfectly acceptable IMO. The only issue is selling them on. Under no circumstances should a repro weapon be sold as genuine. If a seller is unsure, then it must be advertised as repro, or binned.

When I started out a few years ago, repro was fine for me. I didn't sell figures and wanted my stuff purely for my own display.

I think it depends on what your goals are? If you have a display, and have the choice of displaying you Vader with a repro weapon, or no weapon, I'd go for a repro every time.

That said, let me be clear. I would never knowingly sell a repro weapon.

Bring on the stoning...................................

I'll never be a fan of reproductions, especially ones that look so close to the original they can fool others.

If I can't afford something I just go without, that goes for everything in life not just Star Wars.

Actually, I really don't get the overall appeal of the DT's (even original ones) so it's beyond me why someone would buy a set of 3 reproduction ones just for display. I mean if you think about it, it's just 3 slightly longer bits of plastic..Surely the "cool" factor is knowing you own real ones?

It really boggles my mind why anyone would want a set of replica DT's.

..........just to add, as my disorder, I mean collecting has developed, I have decided replaced all my weapons for genuine ones, and destroyed the repro ones.
Everyone has to start somewhere.

After I hit submit on that last post I had a funny feeling of deja vu and sure enough: http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5706

I've obviously been struggling with this concept for many, many years

No problem Rich, my answer was directed at Iains pitchfork post. :P

Well I'll fess up and say that I have a set of these as well as the Luke one melted down from broken ones ( shame on you Ian :o )

I must admit that as I knew I was never going to buy originals (if you could even find Ben and Darth's that is), I wanted them for my collection just to see what they look like displayed. From a model making standpoint these are very well made and I can acknowledge the effort that has gone into these. I even have a set of his normal sabers from him but bought those for my own interest as I've bought many examples of repro weapons over the years just so that I can compare them to originals and not get caught out. I know that's just fanning the flame but as I know repros will always be out there now I thought it best to cover myself and also some have been given to my young sons beater figures as there seems little point in giving a child originals that will only get lost. Hopefully he'll have enough interest in the future to want to learn about how to spot fakes and he'll end up with all my originals at some point.

Just to make things clear, I don't use repros for my displayed collection of figures and although I've displayed the DT ones I have put my original ones back in now as I never owned DT's as a child and it didn't feel quite right. I do think though if I ever went for a real DT it would have to be graded or from a very trusted source ( even though with some research I think it would be easy to spot a fake).

Oops - sorry Jorn, my comments weren't aimed at you at all - I was also preempting the potential pitchforks (just like you had your popcorn out!

I bought a set of these years ago for reference - still have them on display but apart from the main collection

I wouldn't buy them today as I now know how dodgy Mr revalvit is, but as others have said you'd be mad to buy a DT sabre without provenance although Luke is a bit more common and easier to take a punt on
