I have just picked up a new R2 Sensorscope with a better sticker, but now it's arrived I can see that the silver dome is not quite as nice as my old one.

So I thought I could swap the heads over, but upon removing them one is made of a green plastic, and the other one is white plastic (under the silver, you obviously can't see this when it's fitted.) One of them has a Hong Kong COO, the other has no COO.

I'm aware that these days people are very particular about having the right factory weapons with the right COO figures, but I was wondering if anyone knows whether there are any differences between the R2-D2 heads, I know that C-3PO and the Death Star Droid have all kinds of different plastic colours under their metallic layer, but are all R2-D2 heads one and the same or not? Will people be after me with a pitchfork if I swap them over!?

If the COO’s are different, the chances are high that every other aspect of the figures will also be different from one another, including the heads, even if only very slightly. Also, the sensorscopes are likely to be different too.

As for who will care, some collectors very much indeed, others not at all. If the figure is going to stay in your collection, then I would say do what you want to it. If you ever sell it, then declare what you’ve done and let the buyer decide if they’re happy.

That’s my advice for what it’s worth! :)

Can you not swap the dome and have a nice display piece, and keep the old body in a drawer somewhere to swap back should you upgrade again or decide to sell later?

I've just had a read of the Variant Villain website and apparently the new one I picked up is supposed to have a dull dome, my old one seems to be the super shiny type. Shame as it looks better, but I think I'll leave it as it is.
