After searching for a Tri Logo Lando Skiff for ages I agreed to pay £65 delivered from a uk Ebayer with 100% feedback.

I don't usually get involved in direct transactions but the card seemed ok and the feedback was 100% So I thought it's ok as he will save a bit on fees and I get the card I want

The card appeared today Very badly damaged. It had been shipped in a brown envelope, it had zero bubble wrap, it was torn in the corner and the bubble is now screwed and there card has more creasing than you would like...

So without getting the needle too much I contacted the seller by eBay messaging, reported the problem and asked him to file the compensation claim...

Within seconds I got the following reply "Hi Mate.
Sorry to hear that but it was fully bubble wrapped and protected when sent as you will be aware. I've double checked and it's yourself that need to make a claim mate"

Now I was furious. There was no sodding bubble wrap not was the card protected in anyway". Thank fully I took pictures and sent these immediately in reply...and guess what no quick response this time.

Now the real issue here is that by helping someone I have screwed myself as I should have sent the PayPal via Goods and services not gift ( and as we all know we should never send gifts )

I have filed a claim with Royal Mail myself. But in a way the bubble being crushed and they card bent seems like the fault of the sender !

Hope this experience helps others avoid having to deal with this crap and frankly Arseholes !

That sucks arse, Lee. Not only have you lost out but that's a nice MOC ruined for ever. 30 years a survivor and a cretin seller destroys it through laziness and pure stupidity. And what a **** to lie about the bubble wrap. Right there you know what sort of person you are dealing with.

As for gifting I have decided that on low value deals it simply isn't worth is: what's 3.4% of even £100? Less than a pint, nowadays. And as for expensive gift payments? Well, comes down to knowing and trusting the person. Currently in a payment plan to a forum member for a fair bit but they're well established here and I have absolutely zero concern with paying like that.

Personally, I would not gift payment to a stranger now. Was only burnt once on a non-SW item a couple of years back (item turned up broken and incomplete) but his attitude was so **** I nearly got in my car and drove the 240 miles to his address to physically explain why I thought he was a cad.

I could have just about accepted that the seller was a bit simple by sending how they did. But to then reply, almost instantly with a lie if the bit that makes me really angry.

Sadly I suspect the card was not in as good shape as the seller indicated and this is all a ruse to cover up the card not being great.

And here was me thinking "oh well at least I am helping someone not pay 15% to eBay"

He/she is still selling a lot of other items on eBay. I hope no one else gets caught !

I am sorry to hear about this situation. It really feels like a punch to the gut when you put your trust in someone and they violate it in such a way.

I would strongly suggest you out this person and their ebay name here, and on any other site/social media collecting page that you use. In fact, it might just be the leverage point you need to get him to refund you, if you just threaten that. If he has 100% positive feedback, he won't want his name slagged all over the internet.

Best of luck.

Ian

This has happened to me a few times over the years. Sellers continue to surprise me in just how stupid they really can be. WHO pays this type of money for these things and then doesn't care what condition it turns up in? Brown paper - what a dolt.

Lee, you probably should remove the pic with your address on it too. Leave the one with his there though.....

Cheers,
Pat

This kind of thing is happening more and more . It really pisses me off , arseholes like him are wrecking the hobby and destroying bloody good moc's that are over 30 years old

Why should Royal Mail pay out for the sender's crap packaging?? Also the sender needs to claim not the recipient.

This guy sounds like a right dick. Looks like he's trying to avoid all involvement now he's sent the item.

I really can t understand why people don't take the time and care to protect things properly. Is it to save money on packaging?? Time?? I always package things as I would expect to receive them.

I spent 2 days packing a POTF Nikto to post off to America as I wasn't happy that it would get there in one piece.

I've actually just run into the stupid mailing practice myself recently.

I'm helping out a fellow collector over there in the UK with a boxed AT-AT the seller wouldn't ship overseas, and when I got it, it was simply wrapped in brown paper. Thankfully no serious damage I can see, but that's not the worst. He filled the box with peanuts, then TAPED THE ****ING BOX CLOSED.

Thankfully, the end buyer is very gracious and understanding, but it baffles me that people willingly ship items with no regard to protection.

Ian

Far out Ian. I know you're doing that for Mike too. What a bloody shitty thing to do. Hopefully Mike will be able to remove the tape with a hairdryer given its new.

Some people truly are stupid..... or simply don't care. I'm not sure which is worse.

Yep - I have received 5 or 6 MOCs this year posted in envelopes - last one was a $100 card - the seller then cam eon asking why I hadn't left him any feedback - I told him he was lucky I didn't leave him negative for being such a dick

With regards to eBay purchases - I see no issue doing a deal outside eBay and saving fees - but I would never send gift for this very reason - the buyer has no comeback and PayPal will have no sympathy. If you do it on here then you expect the seller to take responsibility but from eBay you have little to no comeback

However, as Ian says - you should out the seller as a minimum

What an eejit! Some people just don't get the importance of preserving the condition, seen this before, it's nuts. I don't get why you would pay with gift or do a deal outside ebay with someone you don't know though? I don't think it's Royal mails fault. If you'd paid normal paypal you could just claim a refund for item not as described, regardless how it was damaged.

Well the reply I got after challenging the lies about bubble wrap was "just send it back"

Nothing else. No politeness or anything ! Just those 4 words.

Problem now is deciding if I want to trust it and send back and then get no refund or just put it down as one of them things

I feel that if someone can't package correctly then make stuff up and lie in reply there is little reason to trust

I'll take a deep breath and consider, PayPal were no help at all, said I was not covered ! I have looked though PayPal and I think it was just something I did not pick up on when sending payment. Seems I did it via my IPhone and might well have rushed and not realized the result could go horrible for me.

My fault in regards PayPal. Not in regards anything else. Nor is it really a Royal Mail problem I feel.

To be honest , not sure I would trust him , the next thing you know , he has the figure and your money !

If any issue with Paypal , he will show proof that it was delivered to you

Be careful

I can't believe the seller was so stupid to not properly wrap & protect this carded figure. It's pure laziness and careless on the sellers behalf. Unfortunately some people don't care how it arrives once they have your hard earned money. Name and shame the seller on here so no one else buys anything from him. Unfortunately i doubt it will stop him trading on Ebay, all he has to do is open a new account on Ebay with a different ID and no one will know!

Did you pay with a credit card?! If so, I'd do a charge back. Send the item back (make sure you have tracking information and extra pictures). File it to your credit card company as item damaged... As long as you show your credit card company that the payment was for goods and not as a gift, then I don't see why they wouldn't issue you a refund. As for Paypal, clam insanity and that you simply clicked the wrong button between goods and gift. Don't be fobbed off with the 'you're not covered.'

I had a card sent almost as badly, only difference being this one had one layer of bubble wrap and two pieces of cardboard. Suffice to say it got sent back and I wasn't as generous as Iain on the feedback front. The seller then blamed Royal Mail for the damage? Twats a plenty out there unfortunately.

Also that's 3 MOC that are now knackered, how many more does this happen to annually from an ever smaller supply!

Sorry to read this another eBay chump, you should tell him you will send the item back as soon as you have your money back. Otherwise neg him.
