Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

The worrying thing about this is the refs response, this is a clear incident where video replay would have been useful. But why he needed it should be the first question.

True, but that's how this whole discussion started. We know referees can't do the job they're being asked to do. They're getting really basic things wrong every single week. Probably a half dozen examples in the premier league alone every week. So it's now pointless to ask 'why aren't they getting it right', they just aren't. That's that. That's not even close to the worst decision we've seen this year. All that can be done is to provide technology to assist them. Take it out of their hands.

Was never expecting to win, just didn't want them to concede too many or any embarrassing goals. Both preventable as usual, but can't blame the defence for this one, apart from Erikssen's crossbar free kick there was very little goal threat.

Following on from recent discussion I think there was a good shout for a Spurs penalty, love the way the commentator said " to be fair it's hard to see shirt pulls like that in real time." No **** Sherlock! That doesn't make it acceptable, just highlights the problem. It's a battle referee's can't win, the alternative is we all go back to watching football on 11" CRT black and white TVs with no slow motion replays.

Haha I was considering putting a bet on Chelsea to soften the blow, should have done!

Yeah, it was free money. Mine was actually a combined bet Arsenal and Chelsea to win. I have no principals.

Well it was obvious both Arsenal and Liverpool would also win this weekend, nothing is going Spurs's way at the moment! I think we used the whole seasons good luck in that one game against Chelsea

WTF were the Spuds defence doing for the first goal? Five of them stood in a line on the six yard box and Lloris rooted to his goal line. He should have come and claimed it. Even so, one of the five defenders should have cleared it. Passing to John Terry on the penalty spot doesn't count as clearing it.

Yeah I agree but we all know they can't defend so Chadli shouldn't have conceded a free kick there.

Yeah, when he gave that stupid free away I said to my mate, "that's the kind of daft free kick that Chelsea will score from." Hey presto. What Chadli was doing I'll never know. Just jump. That's all you have to do. Jump and it'll hit your head and won't go to your man.

Yeah I knew the goal was coming the second the ref blew his whistle! Oh well.

If/when Chelsea secure a CL spot, does the worthless cup Europa League spot default to Spurs as runners up or does it go to the next placed side in the PL?

Good point, and no idea! I would honestly love Spurs not to be in it next season, it's pretty much beyond doubt that it's had an effect on their league position the last few years. Concentrate on the league and domestic cups next season.

Saying that, is it really unreasonable to expect a professional athlete to play 3 hours of competitive football a week? I know they train too but I'd have thought a day off in between matches should be plenty of time to recover. It's not like the majority of them pull their weight during normal matches either

I think it's as much the travelling. Liverpool didn't get back from Turkey until 5am on Friday morning. That writes off all of Friday.
That and the TV issue, Sky refused to move the KO time of Liverpool City so Liverpool were left with very little time between games. Ok, each player and club knows what they are going to do but if the manager wants to try something different tactically he has little time to get the players on the training pitch between games.
