Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

League Cup Europa League spot goes to the League. That's why Spurs are in it this year (City won it last season so 6th place became a spare EL place which is where Spurs ended up).

Yeah your right it's the runners up of the FA Cup who go into the Europa League. If the winners finish in top 5.

Anyone watch the Newcastle v's Scum game last night?

How shite where Man U? First time I've watched one of their games for months, ****ing hell that was dire. I'm a Liverpool fan and a self confessed ABU, but even I don't enjoy watching that dirge. For all their legion of faults the one thing I have never been able to say about Utd is that they play bad football. I hated Fergy with a passion (there's more class in a used condom than in that man) and also most of the army of glory hunter Utd fans who only ever seemed to appear when Utd won something, or beat Liverpool, both of which happened all too often. But the one thing I could never accuse Utd of was playing bad or boring football.

Then I watch the game last night.
**** me, Fat Sam was right. I feel dirty for saying that. If Fat Sam, a man who considers 'passing football' to be anything under an 80 yard hoof, is calling you a long ball team, you know you got problems. The only tactics I could see from Utd last night were sideways passing, more sideways passing, a bit more sideways passing, a back pass, a sideways pass, and then a hoof in the rough general direction of Fellaini's head. He was then supposed to knock it across goal for someone else. This is a club that had Giggs, Beckham, Ronaldo and Kanchelskis!? I could understand it, if it was the last few minutes of the game and they needed a goal, but it was from the kick off. I could understand it if they had a massive injury crisis, but they don't. I could understand it if they had a **** manager, but they don't, at least his CV isn't ****. I could understand it if they were playing the best team in Europe, no disrespect to Newcastle, but they aren't the best team in Europe.

So why play hoof ball for 90 mins?

Ok, they dominated possession. Wow! Big ****ing deal. You get no points for stringing together 30 passes on the half way line! Ask Arsenal fans.

Is it any wonder Di Maria looks about ready to slit his own wrists!? The guy has gone from WC final and star of Real Madrid to the periphery of a club playing pub football. Saying that, it takes real talent to turn a £60 million player, into something resembling a journeyman.

Then there's Falcao. He's never looked right at Utd. Maybe it's just one of those transfers that doesn't work for no apparent reason, but you're drawing 0-0 away from home in a tight race for the CL spots, with all your rivals winning and the manager elects to bring on a defensive midfielder (Michael Carrick) and a kid (Januzaj) and Juan Mata ahead of you. WTF?

Even at that, the game should have been over by then. Newcastle should have had a penalty in the first half. The phrase 'stonewall' springs to mind. I can understand the ref missing it cos he had players running across his line of sight, but ehh the Linesman was looking STRAIGHT at it. If Riviere wasn't such a useless bastard he would have taken one of the two glorious chances he had as well and that was game over. Yeah, Rooney had the ball in the net when he was wrongly blown for offside, but again, I'll give the ref and lino the benefit of the doubt, it was a bloody close call and the whistle had gone before he shot so Krull didn't bother trying to save it.

I thought Utd were very very lucky to win that. If or when that luck runs out they are in big trouble because they are murdering the game of football. It's brutal watching them. Mind you, it's Utd, that luck will last just long enough to get them a CL spot and then normal service will be resumed.

 Great post from a Liverpool fan, on a positive note for you Liverpool are playing well and getting somewhere close to where you were 30 years ago.

When you factor in what rodgers has done with the english players too its remarkable, haven't we got the best record in Europe in 2015 for games now?

lets just hope we dont have another "slip" up on the final run-in, and for gods sake never play balotelli again.

I may be a Liverpool fan and an ABU, but much as I hated Utd they did always play good football. They weren't quite at the level of Arsenal (on their day) or the Barca side of 2-3 years ago, but they were good to watch. Even if I was always cheering for the other side. Oh and I'm not "one of those" Liverpool fans.

Last night I actually told the missus she could turn the tv over if she wanted. It was that dull.

PS, it was 25 years ago, not 30! And, Utd look to be heading right back to how they were playing back then as well.

Listen I'm worried big time, I've just seen Van Gaals reaction on Match of the day apparently that was our best away performance of the season, I need what ever he is smoking to get through the rest of this season, Arsenal are gonna pull our pants down on Monday. :?:

Yeah, Utd should never have won that last night. Apart form the fact that Newcastle were robbed a blatant pen by yet another terrible refereeing/linesman, joint, non decision. They were just awful. I had them to draw in my predictions league as they've been terrible away from home all season (that was only their 4th win). How they came away with 3 points from that i will never know.
And how Mata can't get in that team is astounding. One of the best play-makers in world football can't get in a team that are struggling to "make" goals.
And LVG comes across as an arrogant, rude prick in interviews. Who the **** does he think he is? He's achieved nothing yet at this club with how many hundreds of millions to buy a trophy?? Literally any bloke in a pub could do a better job than him. ****ing chump.

I can't argue with that.

Utd's next 6 games, Arsenal (FAC), Spurs, Liverpool, Aston Villa, City Chelsea.

**** or bust right there. If they keep playing horribly badly and winning they will be favourites for a CL spot. If they keep playing badly and those 5 sides (Villa are too shite to count) play even moderately well, they could be looking at a fight for a Europa League spot.

Great post Weaz.

Unfortunately thats how we have played all season. It bloody hard to watch at the minute. I mean Id expect that from Alfreton in the ****ing confernce but their the ones trying to get the ball down and play! Its brutal stuff. I think LVG talks some right shite in his interviews too? Best away perormance of the season? Pardon?? If I were Id be thanking my lucky stars

Exactly! I heard that and thought the same ting. Shows how deluded and clueless the man is. Frightening he should actually think or say that. I'd be worried if i were a Utd fan that that's as good as he can envisage.

I hadn't heard that.

If Moyesy had said that everyone would be laughing at him. Teflon Van Gaal says it and barely anyone notices.

Everyone is laughing at him I think, as I've said before in your first season at Man Utd you need to do 1 of two things either get results or play entertaining football. Moyes did neither and Van Gaal is getting the results just, another season like this won't be good enough. If we finish in the top 4 from this position now, with the way we are playing it will be a minor miracle and the luckiest season since 98/99.

The one thing I'm hoping is we get the results against the top sides like earlier in the season, only Man city have beaten us out of the so called top sides, discounting Southampton.

That was an exciting round of FAC games!

Bar the Utd game last night I'd seen more exciting wakes!
As for the Utd game, pretty much as expected. Utd played the dull, dour, depressing footy they have played all year and bar one fantastic cross from Di Maria, they looked devoid of ideas. Unless you count hitting long balls to Fellaini at the back post? If you do I suspect your name is either Louis Van Gaal or fat sam!
I didn't think Arsenal were brilliant, but then they didn't need to be. Di Maria had to go once he grabbed the ref. It's a silly rule, but it's a rule.

On that note, 6 games for Evans and Cisse (ok, he got an extra one cos he had been sent off before) for spitting and yet Manuel Figaroa got nothing for that tackle on Stephen Ireland's leg (for the picture scroll back a page or two). Seriously? Where is the logic in that? Yes, spitting is horrible and you don't want to encourage kids to do it, but **** me, that tackle could have ended his career. And, it's not like that's the only tackle along those lines either, ask any Arsenal fan what traditionally happens to them at Stoke. Football needs to sort it's priorities out, 6 games for spitting, nothing for ending someone's career  . Still where does this rule come from? Yeah, FIFA.

Big few weeks for Utd, Spurs, Liverpool, Villa, City and Chelsea. They need a minimum of 10 points from that. On current form I could see them getting 4.
Will Van Gaal start to feel the pressure from the media then? So far, I think, he's got off very lightly given what he has spent and just how poor the brand of football he has them playing is.

Ohh and Blackburn to beat Liverpool!

Words fail me, if Fellaini is at Old Trafford next season I'm gonna have to buy a Palitoy Boba Fett to keep me out of depression. He either gives the ball away or commits a foul 90% of the time. De Maria had to go you can't have players touching the ref at all, suprised it wasn't a straight red, unless it was? Another night we might have won but for Valencia's lack of concentration. I always try to look at the positives and without De Gea we would be a mid table team, that save he pulled of from dirty Sanchez at the end was superb.

I was 9 the last time Man UTD whent 2 seasons without a trophy. :|

Yeah, I forgot about that. The boy made a couple of seriously good saves. One from Cazorla/Sanchez, diving to his left was almost as good.
Sad thing is Real or Barca will start tapping him up soon and you'll lose him.

Yeah in my head I'm thinking if we can get another season out of him it's a bonus, otherwise I think it's safe to say he will be on a plane to Madrid/Barcelona faster than you can say 'el clasico'. :?

You may well get that season, as he's ex-Athletico and I assume is no fan of Real, plus Barca are currently banned from signing players.
Not that it will stop either club trying to tap him up. Just wait for the current players, ex-players and or directors to start saying how good he is and how they would love him to sign for them.
