Anyone watch the Newcastle v's Scum game last night?
How shite where Man U? First time I've watched one of their games for months, ****ing hell that was dire. I'm a Liverpool fan and a self confessed ABU, but even I don't enjoy watching that dirge. For all their legion of faults the one thing I have never been able to say about Utd is that they play bad football. I hated Fergy with a passion (there's more class in a used condom than in that man) and also most of the army of glory hunter Utd fans who only ever seemed to appear when Utd won something, or beat Liverpool, both of which happened all too often. But the one thing I could never accuse Utd of was playing bad or boring football.
Then I watch the game last night.
**** me, Fat Sam was right. I feel dirty for saying that. If Fat Sam, a man who considers 'passing football' to be anything under an 80 yard hoof, is calling you a long ball team, you know you got problems. The only tactics I could see from Utd last night were sideways passing, more sideways passing, a bit more sideways passing, a back pass, a sideways pass, and then a hoof in the rough general direction of Fellaini's head. He was then supposed to knock it across goal for someone else. This is a club that had Giggs, Beckham, Ronaldo and Kanchelskis!? I could understand it, if it was the last few minutes of the game and they needed a goal, but it was from the kick off. I could understand it if they had a massive injury crisis, but they don't. I could understand it if they had a **** manager, but they don't, at least his CV isn't ****. I could understand it if they were playing the best team in Europe, no disrespect to Newcastle, but they aren't the best team in Europe.
So why play hoof ball for 90 mins?
Ok, they dominated possession. Wow! Big ****ing deal. You get no points for stringing together 30 passes on the half way line! Ask Arsenal fans.
Is it any wonder Di Maria looks about ready to slit his own wrists!? The guy has gone from WC final and star of Real Madrid to the periphery of a club playing pub football. Saying that, it takes real talent to turn a £60 million player, into something resembling a journeyman.
Then there's Falcao. He's never looked right at Utd. Maybe it's just one of those transfers that doesn't work for no apparent reason, but you're drawing 0-0 away from home in a tight race for the CL spots, with all your rivals winning and the manager elects to bring on a defensive midfielder (Michael Carrick) and a kid (Januzaj) and Juan Mata ahead of you. WTF?
Even at that, the game should have been over by then. Newcastle should have had a penalty in the first half. The phrase 'stonewall' springs to mind. I can understand the ref missing it cos he had players running across his line of sight, but ehh the Linesman was looking STRAIGHT at it. If Riviere wasn't such a useless bastard he would have taken one of the two glorious chances he had as well and that was game over. Yeah, Rooney had the ball in the net when he was wrongly blown for offside, but again, I'll give the ref and lino the benefit of the doubt, it was a bloody close call and the whistle had gone before he shot so Krull didn't bother trying to save it.
I thought Utd were very very lucky to win that. If or when that luck runs out they are in big trouble because they are murdering the game of football. It's brutal watching them. Mind you, it's Utd, that luck will last just long enough to get them a CL spot and then normal service will be resumed.
