Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

Comedy gold tonight in the CL Citeh behind and down to 9 and Chelsea failing to beat Maribor and have missed a pen!!

Been away for all of October, gladly I couldn't see ANY of Liverpool's game. But I've heard they continued were they left off in September. There's a hell of a lot of pressure on Daniel Sturridge now. Ballotelli looks as much a PL footballer as me.

No idea what's going on with all the "big clubs". Bra Chelsea they all seem to be struggling.

Arsenal are doing an Arsenal. We all said they needed a DCM and CB and sure enough they are being found out there.

Spuds I'm a bit surprised at, I thought Potchetino would have them playing a bit better, maybe it will just take time.

Utd having their worst start to a PL campaign in 25 years, having spent 150 million and having had easier fixtures than Moyesy had. Yet Van Gaal is getting no stick. Strange.

City seem to be in a similar boat to Liverpool. On paper the team they put out should do better than it is. Obv, Liverpool's team on paper isn't as strong as City's, but they should still do better than 1 pt from games against Newcastle, Hull, West Ham, and Villa. Yet both sides go out and play devoid of any confidence at all. Both are a pale shadow of the sides from last year and both managers are coming under serious pressure. Especially given City are out of the CL and Pool are doing their best to get knocked out.

Chelsea look like a great side, but the sad thing is it appears they are going win the title almost default because everyone else is playing so poorly. Take nothing away from Saints and Hammers but over the course of a season I just can't see either keeping up a title challenge. A CL spot is a possibility but not a sustained title tilt.

On that note, I was slagging Fat Sam off and stand by my comments. The guy is a wanker, plays horrible football (give it time, he will revert to type soon enough) and needs a ****ing kicking. It would be easier for him manage Barca or Real than wherever he was at the time. **** right off you arrogant GBH merchant.

Moyes only got stick this time last season off fans who diden't want him in the first place. It was only really after Christmas he really got stick. Just saying. :)

I know it's not PL but have just watched my team come from a goal behind to beat Fulham 2-1 with both goals coming in the final 10 minutes, get in :D West London bragging rights....... in the Championship at least

It would have been harsh getting nothing out of that game but at the same time we deserved the win and played very well  4th place and our best position for 60 odd years

Bit of a closet Brentford fan myself. Grew up near there and have seen them play many times. Really pleased with how well they are doing. Have lots of giddy Brentford fan friends who seem to be enjoying life right now. It would be amazing if they could pull off the impossible and actually get promotion! 8)

We've really are playing at a good level right now having recently beaten Derby and Forest and it's very pleasing indeed, Griffin Park is a fortress right now :D promotion would be a huge ask but it's been done quite a few times in the last few years with teams who have punched above their weight and won promotion, so why not the Bees :D

BEES BEES BEES BEES

Wengers head has been in danger for a while now - his record against the 'big clubs' is appalling

I never rated Rogers but he had a great season last year (mainly thanks to Suarez) - don't think they'll be calling for his head - yet - but can't see them doing **** all this season - watched the game and CPalace were on top for most of it

Really? I watched it, with the sound off, and it looked like Liverpool dominated possession but couldn't break down Palace's massed ranks and then got caught a few times on the counter. I wouldn't have said Palace dominated.

I do agree, Liverpool were/are shite though.

I thought that game summed their season up perfectly. Lots of possession, not a huge number of clear cut chances, some comedy defending, a bit of bad luck and a lot of players who are playing badly or struggling with rock bottom confidence.

First Palace goal came from a great 30 yard shot that rebounded off the post. There were. Six players in the box, four Liverpool defenders, the keeper and one Palace striker. It drops straight to the Palace striker who puts it away. I thought Mingolet was a bit soft in not getting to it, but still a tad unlucky with how it fell.

The second was pathetic. Mingolet takes a free kick in the left corner and hoofs it straight out 10 yards in front of himself. It's a fee kick so he was under zero pressure and could see the entire pitch. Ten seconds later it's in his net. Poor attempt to tackle by, i think, manquio, but even so if Mingolet had managed to kick it like a primary school girl could, the whole mess wouldn't have happened.

Third goal. Firstly, blinding free kick, take nothing away from yer man, sometimes the defensive side can't do anything about a set piece, that was a prime example. But, i think the award of the free kick was harsh. Skertl and the Place Cf, Gayle?, were all over each other. Both had the others shirt yet Skertl is penalised. Yeah, ok, he has got away with that for years and probably deserved to be punished because he is a serial shirt puller, BUT how many times do we see a CB holding a forward and it's not blown up? 'Soft' isn't the right word, but it definitely wasn't the sort of incident you see and instantly shout "free kick"

Now, i'm not saying Liverpool were unlucky to lose, Palace were the better side and definitely wanted it more. It's just as if Liverpool insist on shooting themselves in the foot, and the more they do it, the lower their confidence, the lower the confidence, the more they find new ways to lose and shoot themselves in the foot.
Maybe they used all their luck up last year. Certainly the virtual free run they had with injuries helped. Look at how effective Sturridge's back up men have been. The goal Lambert scored today was the FIRST that him, Ballotelli and Borini have managed in the league this season. ONE goal! Woeful.

Ohh and Pool won their first game of the season. They now have 14 pts from 12 games. Ignoring the first game of the season, that's 11 pts from 11 games. That there is relegation form! Lol

Oh and did the Hull player get sent off for Vertonghen walking over him? Was half watching it, up to that point i thought Hull looked fairly decent.

I think Arsenal are the only team who should be feeling
hard done by this weekend..

And why would that be?

Arsenal had their chances, particulary in the first half, and failed to take due to poor finishing and De Gea brillance. You make your own luck in football sometimes. Yes united for fortunate for the first goal but I was confident we would catch them on the break at some point. The same old same old from Arsenal.

Yup, a lot of hard work but no end product,
I'm no Arsenal fan but I thought they were
unlucky not to come away with something.

I thought DG was superb, and the main reason UTD weathered the first half, Arsenal were woeful in finishing, as soon as UTD goal went in Arsenals wheels fell off they were shell shocked, gave UTD chance to get the second.

All in all with 2 totally inexperienced defenders taking on such a big match, I thought utd were at it, and hopefully with Hull and a Stoke to come next, we can build on that, Shaw injury is a worry, especially with Blind out as well.

I agree they dominated according to the highlights on MOTD but they've been like this for years now. No end product and going forward leaving massive gaps at the back.
