Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

Looks like we'll have to get used to Spurs being a mid-table team again, utter garbage today. Please just let Soldado go on a free transfer and cut your losses, the most useless player we've EVER had.

Not sure if you have Danny Murphy on commentary over there but he sounds so much like Mark Lawenson it is scary

Spuds were shite today - they thought they just had to turn up to win and as soon as Newcastle scored in the 2nd half then they lost all impetus - think the manager is being found out at this level - on paper there are some great players and some good young English players as well but not sure he can get a tune out of them

COME ON YOOOUUUUU IRONS!!!

COYI! Can't believe how well this is going at the mo  - better make the most of it before we implode in typical WHU fashion!

Hope we can keep Song at the end of the season, and hold on to Kouyate, Sakho, Valencia etc. Always a worry that some moneybags team will come in for these guys :(

Song was great yesterday - can see why Barca signed him up

Wonder how some of the Spammers feel about Alladyce now

I was behind him from the start, as the club was a shambles and needed a strong, no-nonsense manager to sort it out. I did wobble a bit last season though, as most of our football was dire, in complete contradiction to our traditional game. He's really showing his talent as a coach now though- totally changed things around. Last season makes more sense to me know- even though it was painful at times, it was probably neccessary. We bought VERY well in the summer- let's hope we don't get any major injuries. Will have Carrol on the bench pretty soon as well.

Would be happy with top 10- would be great for the game if the likes of us and Saints can keep going though ;)

Yeah, i sang Alladyce's praises on here towards the end of last season. Ham fans are ****ing idiots (sorry, WH fans  ). He is the ONLY reason they are still in the Premier league and now look like having a decent shot at a top 10 spot which is massively over-achieving for them. At that level (basically avoiding the drop and being better than 4, 5 or 6 other teams) he is fantastic at what he does. Arguably the best in the business.

And they've given him a chance to execute his plan, which always takes time. look at Spurs and United as proof that replacing the manager every 6 months solves nothing. Even Fergie would need years to sort out a mess of a club.

I wouldn't say top 10 is 'massively overachieving' at all. We finished 10th in our first season back, and are way better than we were then. As a club, top 10 is where we should be aiming for every season. Agree about Sam- he's done a cracking rebuild, however, some of the football last season was hard to take. It's entertainment after all. Onwards and upwards!

I would considering you could and possibly should have been relegated last season. They were massive favourites to go down so to become a side challenging for the top 10 with very little investment is massively over achieving. When you consider the likes of Spurs would be lucky to finish 7th this season and 8th is a distinct possibility.
Without Sam West Ham would be mid table in the Championship right now and not looking to be back in the Premier league for 2 or 3 years, as is normal for a relegated team.

It would've all depended on who we would have had instead of Sam. Any manager would have been given sizeable funds (for the Championship). All conjecture. Despite the dire start to last season, we were pretty safe after our great run of results in February, in which we pulled clear and never got dragged back in. I don't think we were favourites to go down this season by any stretch. The early betting had us 5th-8th favourites for relegation, which isn't great, but at the same time, far from 'favourites'. In terms of investment, we spent well over 20 m, but also managed to get players like Song, Sakho, Jenkinson, Cresswell, Poyet and Zarate for next to nothing. Kouyate and Valencia commanded sizeable fees. I would say the investment of that lot could be considered 'sizeable'. I was very optimistic about Song, Zarate, Kouyate (remember him being an absolute beast in the Olympics) and Valencia before a ball had been kicked. They've all exceeded expectations and the others have also excelled. The old guard of Noble, Reid, Collins etc have been spurred on by the new guys and Downing has been sensational at the tip of the diamond. It's all really come together.

This season's shaping up to be a cracker. Lovely to see Saints, Swans and us right in the mix. Very doubtful any of us will stay there to the end, but it's lovely to have a change from the dominance of Man Ure, Citeh, Arsenal and Chelsea (although I can't see past them at the mo!). Long may it continue!

As for the Spuds, I think if I was a fan I'd want a new chairman! What do you think of Levy?

3 100% penalties turned down by Michael Oliver for Man City. Absolutely shocking refereeing display. Utd are getting very very lucky here.

Yep at least were defo pens. He completely bottled it.

For us tho 3 wins from those first 10 league games is pathetic.

True, but things are improving and that's all you can hope for. You were never gonna get a result at Man City but you did well to hold your own as well as you did, 3 blatant penalty decisions aside. The top 2 this season will be City and Chelsea, anyone who doubts that has a very small brain. But 3rd is anybody's. I actually make Arsenal and Man Utd favourites for that spot and it could be either. If you guys get in the top 4 this season it would be a massive step. Having said that i do feel it will take at least 1 if not 2 purchases of decent defenders in January. You can't go on with that back 4 for god's sake.

Hey Pete. Oh yeah dont get me wrong I didnt expect anything from the last two games v Chelswa and City so I will take a point. Its mainly our away form and how we have failed to beat WBA and Burnley and had that crash at Leicester thats dissapointing. These opening 10 games are the easiest we have been handed in years and we didnt take advantage.

But yes their are signs of improvements despite having less points than last season and having scored less.

And its blantantly obvious we need a new defence!

I would love to gloat about the Villa win if it wasn't so undeserved and lucky  Thank the lord for Harry Kane, that's all I can say.
