Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

Can anyone explain to me why the clubs pay agent fees? Surely that's bribery? If the players wants an agent, which I agree they need as a solicitor role, then the player should pay it. It's not the clubs' fault that a player has an agent who wants a hefty cut. The money spent on fees to agents is money leaving the game £2.4 million in division one! Ridiculous.

Transfer fees are the same, if I move job because another company is offering me more money or a better opportunity, my old company doesn't get a big payout from the new one.

7 goals in two games, finally Spurs seem to have figured out how to score without Bale :) Looking forward to Sunday's game against Pool now, should be a bit more evenly-matched than last year

It's a decent start tho lack of signings is still a huge worry. I'm nervous about Sunday. But then it's probably the right time to play pool. You going?

Europa League Draw

Group C - Tottenham, Besiktas,Partizan Belgrade,Asteras Tripolis (Greece)
Group D - RedBull Salzburg, Celtic,Dinamo Zagreb,Astra Giugrui (Romania)
Group H - Lille, Wolfsburg, Everton, Kuban Krasandar

(Hull were knocked out in the last round by Lockeren on away goals

Tough Draw for Everton and Spurs could have had it easier with Besiktas.

Think you could be right Pete. Very good time to play Pool. We normally struggle at shite hart lane, bar last year, and I'm not confident about sunday.

As for Europa league, fair bit of travelling for Spuds. Agreed Everton got a tough group. And well Celtic look shite under the new manager so i fully expect someone else to be in charge before they finish the group.

I think we need to remember that Spurs signed loads of players last year, but apart from Erriksen none of them delivered. If Soldado, Paulhino, Lamella, Chadli etc put last year behind them and start performing, it's the equivalent of signing a few decent new players in my eyes. Plus IMO the main problem was the back four, Dawson going and Dier joining are great news on that front. All we need now is for Danny Rose to remember to drop back occasionally

Soldado is a dud. The others i have more faith. But even if they all start performing to their ability we still don't have a strike force and so the top 4 is out of the question.

Same old **** from Spurs. First goal created from the left back position while our supposed left back is near the half way line as usual. Second goal a stupid penalty. Third goal, well frankly only Spurs' defence could let a defender score from their own penalty area.

Forget the strikers, we need a ****ing defence first.

I thought the penalty was bloody harsh. Yeah, he puts his hand up and there is contact, but it's minimal and definitely not enough to knock a full grown man (even a midget like joe alllen) over. Third goal was comedy defending.

Sterling is the differnce between the two sides. Well, that and Liverpool's defenders actually made a few decent tackles.

It was game on for the first half, especially if Chadli hadn't missed that open goal. If the Liverpool penalty was fair according to the rules, Spurs definitely should have got one in the second half, that shirt pull was far more obvious. But can't complain about the third goal, or the later opportunity Sterling should have scored, they were both like Benny Hill/Harry Enfield sketches, highlighting just how terrible the Spurs defence can be. I can't believe they've given Danny Rose another 5 year contract, 5 more years of misery because nobody else will want him. What good is a defender that's slow, too short to battle in the air, and thinks he's Gareth Bale?

pens like that will even themselves out over the season, its a harsh one on the day but i thought we deserved the win, time will tell if the CL tires us though.

United to sign Falcao on a season long loan from Monaco subject to a medical. Delighted with this. A midfielder and a centreback or two and looks are looking up! :D

Amazes me with teams like Spurs and Arsenal desperately in need of a striker and Utd who aren't even in the Champions league and already have 2 of the best strikers in the league sign one of the best forwards in the world. Ridiculous.

A great player but not one that will really sort Utd's issues. i.e.; Zero good defenders and a grand total of 1 good midfielder. Hmm.

Yeah, Falcao is a great player and a great signing for Utd. BUT, they have 2 bloody good strikers (and a few attacking midfielders who cud play up there if needs be) so why go and buy/loan another top drawer striker? That's creating a problem. Ok Hernandez/Welbeck may well go but even so you don't need three strikers of that calibre. Especially not when your squad is crying out for a DCM and TWO centre backs! A nice new lick of paint and some re-arranged deck chairs on HMS Titanic while no one worries about the massive hole is the side of the ship (the complete lack of any decent CB's).

As for Spuds and Arsenal, why they haven't signed a striker I will never know. Arse could have got Remy for under 10 million. FFS Sonogo couldn't score if he moved to Rotherham, dressed like a 13 year old girl and hung around outside a Kebab shop!

I can excuse Arsenal, to an extent, cos they have Giroud to come back (Arsenal say Xmas, I'm assuming more like next season). Spuds have no one. Adebayor is solid enough if a tad unreliable, but after him it's Harry Kane or Soldado and they'd sell Soldado for half a packet of crisps. If Adebayor gets injured, or when he ****s off to ACN, Spuds are ****ed. They have known this ALL summer and have done NOTHING! I just don't get it.

Bloody ridiculous, isn't it? Completely beyond my understanding. And you can't say there are no good strikers available. With the likes of Balotelli (great player, great signing. Takes Liverpool up a notch towards the level they were last season), Remi (another world class striker begging, almost literally, to be signed by ANY premier league club. Ends up going to Chelsea to sit on the bench a la Ba. Well done Spurs), Negrado wanting out of City (excellent player with a lot of potential. Would take Spurs to the next level. A level they have NEVER been at). Lukaku, totally up for grabs. Everton sign him. It's sickening.
At least Arsenal get to enjoy the odd "big signing" Alexis etc. I realised today whilst getting depressed watching 'deadline day' o SkySports that Spurs have never made a "big" signing. Never. Not that i can remember. That can't really be said for any other team in the top 6-7 of the premier league. Our biggest signing ever was Lamala. A virtual unknown. Awesome.
So utterly sick of being a Spurs fan. Literally any other team is better to Support. Cos we are the worst of our "group" always underachieving. Forever punching below our weight. Always falling short of the others. Always finishing below our hoped for position. Can that really be said about any other club? Even if you support QPR you get the excitement of beating teams "you shouldn't beat", a relegation battle that even if you lose you get the excitement of promotion a year or 2 later. Spurs are forever the incessant dunces of their proverbial classroom and not a season has gone by in 10 years when i didn't wish i supported someone else.

Gazza, Klinnsman, Linekar were all big signings. Although it was a few years ago.

Yeah, i guess i was thinking of the Premier league. I didn't remember Lineker being a particularly big signing. A little before my time. I know we got him from Barca. Don't recall how "big" he was at that time. We've done that many many times. Bale being the most recent. Same as Kilinsman. He was decent but probably had his best time with us.

Even so; if what you've said is to be accepted what we're saying is; Spurs last big signing was over 20 years ago.
