Premier League 2020/2021 Thread

Well in contrast to West Ham's good run, I'm struggling to recall Spurs looking worse in recent history. That first half performance was one of the worst I have ever seen. And the penalty Dier gave away, what was he doing flipping around like a sardine in his own box?! The only slight consolation is Chelsea were barely any better so the penalty decided it, a decent side would have scored five or six against that sorry excuse for a team in the first 45 minutes. We were arguaby better in the second half but that's not really saying much, it was just embarrassing.

I can't really help but wonder what the Spurs board and owners must be thing. Surely this will be the last time Jose takes a club for a ride. He's reportedly on £15 million a year at Spurs. He could still turn things around, but I'm really not sure he will. Be surprised if he's still Spurs manager this time next year.

It was a shocking performance by Spurs, and absolutely typical of their negative, unambitious, 'play it sideways and backwards, but god-forbid never forwards', playing style of recent years. Unless Kane and Son are on song allowing them to hit teams on the counter-attack, they have absolutely no ideas at all. There's no invention, no guile, not even a basic ability to pass the ball well all too often at present! With Kane out injured (although hopefully not for much longer), we look utterly toothless.

Spurs aren't looking great, but they are still handily placed. Once HK comes back, they could well put together a decent run and finish top 4. Apart from Man City, don't think anyone else will be entirely consistent, though to the end of the season. However, the current form does follow the Jose pattern...

Mike Dean and Lee Mason... what on earth?!!!

That red card for yer WH boy was another example of how football has gone. That is just a nonsense. No one thinks that's a red bar the ref and VAR. Football is alienating the fans at a rate of knots here.

I think if City win today that will be pretty much it, they have won 13 games in a row in all competitions. It's frustrating how they have got themselves together at the perfect time.

Yeap.
To have any remote title chances (insert your own comment) Pool have to win. They r 7pts behind and City have a game in hand, so effectively 10pts. Lose and that's 13pts. The over come that Pool will need to go unbeaten for the rest of the season, and that doesn't look remotely likely, and City will need to lose 4 games, which also doesn't look likely.
If City win, that's probably the title race done. I can't see Utd catching them either.

Much needed win for Spurs there, it took a couple of pieces of Harry Kane magic to get the result, but I think the first half demonstrated how it's not as easy as just pressing high and throwing everyone forward. That's what Poch used to do, and if there's 10 defenders in the penalty box, it's incredibly hard to score, and results in 90 minutes of sideways passing. I'm not entirely comfortable with Jose's recent tactics, but 'parking the bus' is not just about defending but also trying to lure your opponents into making a mistake and catching them on the counter. It has failed miserably for Spurs in their last six or seven games, but I think West Brom defended really well today and demonstrated why a balance of tactics is required.

Jesus, Spurs won a game!

Though Kane is back, so....

Probably back too soon, as always, so the injury hasn't had a proper chance to heal.

Ahhh Edd beat me to it.

Ten behind the ball is exactly what WBA did at Anfield. Literally, ten. Their CF set up shop 10 yards outside their box. It is all but impossible to break down, and horrendous to watch.

Oh and I have to say Fernandes' goal for United yesterday was incredible, that's the kind of goal Bale used to be able to score, and we are sorely lacking at the moment. You need somebody who can score like that against 10 in the box.

It's also funny how if somebody had asked me at the start of the season would I be happy if after 22 games we were 4 points behind Liverpool, 5 points ahead of Arsenal and one place above Chelsea, I would have bitten their arm off. Who would have guessed that would mean mid-table!

Didnt watch the Pool game, given up watching football, it just pisses me off. But I heard Alison had a screamer.
I also heard Diaz got booked for pulling back Salah and giving away a pen. So ehhh NOT trying to play the ball. You know, exactly what Luiz and Bednereck were sent off for last weekend. But this weekend it's NOT a red. Why!?

Don't get me wrong, it sounds like City were definitely better, if only cos their keeper didn't pass to Pool's forwards twice in 90 seconds. But how can two boys be sent off for what was basically nothing, Luiz's was accidental and Bednereck didn't even touch Martial. Yet Diaz pulls back Salah and is only booked? The most blatant, or the closest to a foul, is the least punished?
Where is the sense, consistency, logic!?

Ohh and the title is now City's. They won't feck this up. Pool's nxt 3 are Leicester, Salzberg in CL, and Everton. At the minute they are in a fight for a CL spot, and I would NOT put money on them beating anyone in the CL.

I think the top 4 is probably sorted, ok it's not but I can't see it changing at the moment. City have won the league, 5 points clear with a game in hand of a Man Utd team that has scored more goals than all the teams other than City but has conceaded more than any team in the top half.

Just saw the goals- yet another dive by Salah. Have a look mate, it's embarrassing. Yes, there is a little contact, but nowhere near enough to cause Salah to go flying. The commentary was 'Salah accepted the contact' or something along those lines. Simply awful. What's happening to our game?! Allison... oh dear! Had an absolute mare!

Yeah it's a real shame that it's gone from the most open title race in PL history to the same old same old in a matter of weeks due to a load of teams shitting themselves. I don't think the CL spots are quite sewn up yet, but it will only take a couple more bad results for those chasing (oh great, Spurs play City next!)

I did hear the penalty was soft, and it wouldn't be the first time Salah has gone down easily. Not an aspect of his game I like.
For some strange reason I can't quite bring myself to watch the goals lol, not a huge incentive to watching your team shoot themselves in the foot, twice.

The way Liverpool are playing at the minute, and the way they have played over the last six weeks, I would not put money on them making the CL.

I think I must be a bit of a sadist as I always at least watch the highlights again, even if we get tanked
