Premier League 2019/2020 Thread

I can understand the technology going wrong, first time in 9,000 games or something like that. But what annoys me is the lack of in the moment thinking from VAR and the ref, computer says no and that's it. Next week the opposite will happen and the officials will say they didn't need technology for the decision.

Apparently VAR didn't intervene cos it was "unprecedented".

Which is the most retarded statement i have ever heard.

1) The very first decision made by VAR this season was unprecedented cos ehh we didn't have VAR before, that didn't stop them.
2) Do they only intervene if they have a set of examples to follow? What are they six year old kids? 3) Do their eyes not work? You can SEE it is over the line, it's not one of those marginal calls it is, literally, clear as day.

I would be sacking whoever was in charge of VAR, if I was an FA big wig. That is pathetic. It's the kind of officious, jobsworth, "computer says no" retarded (non) thinking that football can do without.

Goals change games, titles, European places, relegation battles. Surely pre goal line tech it would've been given?

That's it then, the end of the world.
A storm has rolled in, the 4 Horsemen are outside and weasel just said he wanted a Mourinho team to win

Surely this must be your worst match of the season, the team you hate playing the manager you hate

In fact that's a good question - what is everyone's least favourite game of the season? Mine is always Spurs away at Arsenal, in fact I sometimes don't even watch it because the pain of losing is too great

I hate loosing to Spurs full stop, I do genuinely start every match day, whoever we're playing, with the blind optimism that we can beat anyone and will win.
Childish, a bit
Realistically, probably not

Yeah, no love for Jose or Utd. But Spurs as a club, I quote like (pre them employing Jose). Utd as a club ehhhhh yeah.

Lesser of two evils. And as I type that Spuds score. Get in.

90m for Harry Maguire and he just got dribbled round like he wasn't there. Then DDG produces THAT. Shite shite shite.

Henderson will be Utd's no. 1 nxt season, and DDG cant have many complaints.

Who paid 90 million for him, it was 80 million, dont exaggerate!

Liverpool v Man City is my worse game, two clubs that think they are the greatest ever and they have 5 league titles and 2 european cups in the last 30 years between them.

Was it only 80? Still four times what he is/was worth. Even a 20m player wud be embarrassed at getting dribbled round like that.

As for City and Pool, interesting time period you selected. They have won a fair bit more in the 30 yrs before that, and given City's owners money, I suspect they at least, will win a lot more in the next 30 yrs.

Btw, can any Spurs fan explain to me how Sissoko was 3rd on the fewest touches in the 1st half, with 10. Ehhh was he nt playing centre ****ing mid!?

Did football exist before the PL started? I could have said the last 15 years and it would be the same.

Yes although the result wasn't terrible, it was a shame not to win due to a needless penatly so late in the game. Thank god the second one was overruled, that would have really pissed me off. Harry Kane was terrible, he looked unfit and out of practice (the latter he obviously is.) I'm not convinced by Dier in central defence, I can see why he's dropped Vertonghen and Aldwerweirald but Dier is just too clumsy, that's not the only penalty he's going to give away this season. And Aurier seemed to give the ball away every time he touched it.

As a Utd fan I'm annoyed we didn't win that, we had the better chances throughout, Hugo Lloris was the difference for me. The save with his feet against Rashford and then the Martial one where he tipped it over the bar was class, swap keepers and Utd win that game!

I can see Spurs feeling the same though, both clubs have the same problem in games like like, just don't have enough.

Yeah, on the balance of play Utd deserved to win that. Spurs had one shot (on or off target) by the 80th minute. You can't expect to win many games if that's all you manage.

The penalty was soft for me. Yes, you see them given quite often in PL but for me they are soft. The forward (or Pogba in this case) gets in front of the defender and then stops, meaning the defender's momentum takes him into the forward, who promptly falls over and gets a pen. In hockey there is an offence called "manufacturing a foul" which is exactly what that kind of "foul" is. The forward creates the foul, rather than the defender making a mistake/**** tackle.
Don't get me wrong, every club does it. It just annoys me cos they are really soft penalties. There was no reason for Pogba to stop (other than he knew he would get Dier running into him). Bring back proper football, you would never see Roy Keane doing that lol.

As for WTF Dier was doing, I will never know. Firstly don't commit, don't dive, just hold him up. Secondly don't bloody foul him if he gets past you. Saying that, none of the Spurs players backed him up, he was left 1 on 1 in the corner. That would annoy me if I was his manager.

I agree Kane was woeful. He may as well not have been on the pitch. I thought Lamela was equally bad. He had a great chance to set Son free inside 10 mins and he took too long then put his pass 20 yards the wrong side of Son. He also gave it away a hell of a lot. What is it with running down dead ends that he loves so much?!

I also agree that Spurs defence is pish. Aurier looks very ropey. Will Jose be given any money to spend in the summer to fix it? Given Levy very kindly milked the Furlough system to save himself a few million there should be some funds available. Are Alderwereild and Vertoghen both away in the summer?

Swap the two keepers over and Utd win that game 2 or 3 nil. DDG was to blame for Spurs goal (along with Fat maguire) whereas Lloris made a couple of great saves.

It keeps the race for 4th (and or 5th if City lose their appeal) interesting. Though none of the sides outside the top 3 look like a CL side, or truth be told, deserve a CL spot. Bar possibly SU, who are punching so far above their weight.

Credit where it's due, Pogba looked very good when he came on. There is no doubt that there is a class act in there, when he can be bothered. The problem is, his entourage and his lack of motivation. Oh and Fernandes continues to look good, albeit after only 6 PL games.

Agree on the Pogba situation, exactly right. Its the classic example of a modern footballer constantly being controlled by an agent to ensure the player and agent bleed as much money out of the game as possible. Funny thing is now all these players that are demanding silly money have out-priced themselves and their options are limited, look at Bale, Neymar and Pogba. No one is willing to gamble on them now, not with the present situation. I blame the clubs as well, silly transfer prices and always letting the players get what they want. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the biggest ones for this.

Edit that PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the worst.

Arsenal giving Ozil a contract extension and a wage of 350k a week, meaning they then couldn't afford to offer Ramsey a decent contract and lost him on a free, and now can't shift Ozil cos he wants similar money and no one is daft enough to want to pay him that.

Neymar is fooked. PSG want roughly what they paid, which is fair enough, but that limits his options to a handful of clubs. None of whom have that money ATM. The longer he stays in a joke league the more he loses his edge and less chance there is of him ever reaching the levels he did at Barca. Whoever advised him a move to Ligur Un was a good idea needs shot.
Would you pay £200m to sign him and hope he returns to his Barca levels (and out grows his habit of being suspended/injured EVERY YEAR when it is his b'day and his sister's b'day), or would you sign 2 or 3 other top class players and strengthen your squad. No brainer.
