Premier League 2019/2020 Thread

I'm sure the FA will certainly want to get the current season completed if at all possible. However, the simple truth is that it may well be out of their hands. If the coronavirus pandemic continues for long enough, the Government may intervene and ban all major sporting events. If such a ban were to extend until the start of, or even beyond the start of the next football season, what becomes of this one?

Personally, my best guess at this point is that I agree that the remaining matches across the various football leagues will probably be played before the summer's over, and most likely behind closed doors with no spectators.

75% chance the season wont be complete according to one source, what ever that means. Everything should be done to complete it.

It's a shame for Liverpool fans whatever happens, even if they are awarded the title now with no further games played, it's not the circumstances you would want to win.

Personally I think they should just forget about this season, no more trophies handed out, call it a dud season and start fresh in August.

There speaks a voice of impartiality lol

I'm only messing, if the league does end now, Liverpool are the champions without any question and knowone can ever argue that. I really hope the season can be finished on all fronts. :)

Oh I knew you were joking don't worry.
TBH I'm not worried about whether Pool get declared champions or not. I cant really see any way they won't be, bar them losing all their remaining games. Even if the season is delayed for 6 months when we start playing again they will just finish this one and then go straight into the next one. Any other option opens up too many legal issues with regards to promotion/relegation and European spots.
I would worry if Pool were only a few points clear, but 25 clear with 30 left for City to play for....

One thing is certain, it's gonna massively **** up the football calendar. And just as they are getting it sorted along with come a very sensible world cup in Qatar at Xmas 2022

I really hope thats how they do it, having a cup final later in the year would be good as well. :)

Nothing until at least May then, I'm glad they are going to continue the season though. Would be a shame if they didn't.

I'm going stir crazy without sport.

By May i'll have a nice new white coat that fastens up the back.

Jesus. I had forgotten about them.
That was a dreadful final as well. Utd deserved to win but feck me it was piss poor from start to finish.

Ok, as I'm not missing footy at all.....

Let's improvise. Name your best Man Utd 11 from the PL era. Sensible formations only (4-4-2 or 4-3-3) no Andy Cole at RM or Rio Ferdinand at LB etc.

Also it's how they played during the PL era and while they were at Utd, so the likes of Bryan Robson and Mark Hughes are probably disadvantaged.

Final eleven will be based on who gets most votes.

Other teams to follow as it looks like Corona is here for a while.

My eleven. 4-3-3

Schmeichel

G Nev
Irwin
Ferdinand
Vidic (unless he's playing Torres)

Keane
Scholes
Giggs

Ballbag
Granny shagger
Van Nistelrooy*

* That spot could prob go to any one of half a dozen, even a few midfielders to make it 4-4-2.

My 11, 4-4-2

Schmeichel

G.Neville
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Giggs
Keane
Scholes
Ronaldo

Cantona
Rooney

You picked one of the most over rated players in PL history to partner the granny shagger. I had "most over rated 11" on my list of teams to do after we've done the big PL teams. Amazed you went for him over ehhh pretty much every other striker Utd have had. RVP, Van Nistelrooy, Tevez, Cole, Yorke, OGS, Sheringham, Berbatov, The Tea Lady, all ahead of Cantona.

Ps, good shout on Evra, I ehhh forgot about him

Pretty much my shout that

Cantona is a must

Not a conventional striker with a great scoring record, but his quality on the pitch, leadership and how after arriving in 92 he was massively instrumental in winning the title and kick starting united into glory years, makes him a legend for Utd fans 8) and a must include

We've had this debate before here was my reply.

Cantona joined Man Utd in November 1992 for around £1 million, when Utd were struggling, think they were 8th and hadn't won the league in 25 years. Utd went on to win 4 out of the next 5 league titles missing out in 1995 to Blackburn by a point after Cantona was banned for his kick at Crystal Palace and we ended the season empty handed after winning the double the year before. Cantona scored 2 pens in the 1994 final against Chelsea which we won 4 - 0, the clubs first double. When he returned from his ban on the 1 October 1995 against Liverpool he set Nicky Butt up for Utds first and scored a pen to rescue a point in a 2 all draw. That season Utd had been missing him again and by Christmas Man Utd were 10 points behind Newcastle. In January Utd went on a really good run Cantona scoring in 1 - 0 wins over Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle. He also rescued a point in a 1 all draw at Q.P.R. That's ten points we won with just his goals that I can remember. I always lough when I hear the saying 'you won't win anything with kids', we wouldn't have if it hadn't been for Cantona returning. That season we also won the double with him captain and Cantona scoring the only goal in a 1 - 0 win over Liverpool, Cantona showing the only bit of class in one of the worst finals ever with 4 minutes to go. That day he became the first player from outside the UK or Ireland to captain a winning team in a FA cup final.

Utd won the league the following season with Cantona as captain and at the end of that season announced his retirement from football. Arsenal won the double the next season. Cantona had won 6 league titles out of the previouse 7 he had competed in the other two coming from Leeds in 1992 and Marseille 1991.

The one down side of his time at Utd was their failure in Europe, which Utd were often inpeded by the maximum of 3 oversees players until that rule was thrown out. For me he was the real life Roy of the Rovers back then and Fergies best signing, Ronaldo could have an arguement for that, but I would argue that Ronaldo wouldn't have even moved to Utd if it hadn't been for the success we had through the 90's, which Cantona was without doubt the catalyst of.

We are gonna have to agree to disagree on the cheese eating surrender monkey. I just look at what Utd won after he left, ehhh the treble.

I do agree Utd underachieved in Europe and the 3 foreigners rule shafted them (and all English sides as the four home nations were counted as different countries) . Although, it actually helped
Utd as well, as the young members of the class of '92 got experience, as they were English, that they would other wise never have gotten. That came back to benefit Utd 5/10 yrs later.
I also think Utd underachieved in Europe under Fergy in general. Given their domestic dominance they should have done better in the CL. That's not to slag Fergy. The underachievement in Europe was probably the one chink in his managerial record, I think he said as much himself. Even at that, he did alright in his time in charge! Lol

Yeap move on to next team!

PS He is the first name on Man Utds greatest premiership team and he is underated if anything!!!!

They had to buy Sherringham and Yorke to replace him! He had everything!
