Premier League 2012/13 Discussion Thread

Remember seeing the under 21's at Cov when they played Macedonia in 2009 - Wilshere was immense. Stood above the rest (not literally) and he not only bossed the midfield but the entire game

Even the wife commented on how good he was and she knows jackshit about football

Carragher announces retirement.

Never really rated him other than a season or 2 about 5 years ago but from what I've seen, sound guy, loyal player, all the best for the future.

I think Jamie Carragher has been a great player.
Not in the top bracket of PL defenders, but probably the category just below. He's definitely not someone you'd have been disappointed to sign. He's old school, body on the line, which is dying out in modern football. Fair play to him on calling it quits rather than playing on.
I'll put money on him ending up a manager at some PL club in a few years. The guy is supposed to be a walking encyclopedia of football knowledge. He'll watch ANY game that's on TV and knows most players across the major European leagues. That alone gives him a head start on most PL managers who only know how to work the old boys network.
Although, counting against him is the fact he can only speak broad Scouse and therefore most people can't understand a ****ing word he says!

To be fair, half the foreign managers over here can't speak English that well !

I think he will be a great manager - can see someone like Oldham or MK Dons offering him a job

Would be nice to see him at Notts County too. There defence needs a mass shake up but they already have many strikers prolifc at League 1 level 8)

 I would put Carragher amoungst the top 20 or so best defenders of the premier league era.

Coming back from the stadium of shite, sons first match. He was bored after 20 mins. Carl jenkinson is shite and almost got chinned off mertesacker during goal celebrations

On top form like he is now he now then he aint far off 8)

Looks like if it finishes as it is at Saint Marys Man United have one hand on a 20th title :D

It's their title anyway. Everyone else are too inconsistant.
A win for Everton tomorrow, and a turnaround at St Marys would make it interesting though.

I think it's still a bit early to pass judgement on Bale. Fantastic player, yes, but you need to see him over a period of a few more years.

Look at how Torres played in his first 2 1/2 years at Anfield. You would have had a pretty decent case for putting him in the top 10 PL players of all time. Now you'd struggle to argue he's the third best striker at Chelsea!

Oh and the title is United's to throw away, and surely not even Kevin Keegan and choker FC could lose it from here.
Mancini deserves the sack. Truly pathetic effort given their squad and resources. Has any manager ever under-achieved so much?

This weekend has confirmed a couple of realistic happening's for this season
1 - Spurs are likely to finish above Arsenal (although I think they are more reliant on Bale, than Arsenal ever were on Henry)
2 - Villa are going down.

QPR are gonna need a miracle. villa may well stay up, but only because there are 2 worse sides than them (and QPR). That's a sad state of affairs for a club of Villa's size and stature.
