PL 2016-2017 Thread

I don't think Spurs will catch them, this is the team that lost/drew their final 5 matches of last season dropping 10+ points  But it's equally possible Chelsea will have a bad patch.

Yikes, another loss for Leicester. I wonder what has happened to Vardy's value this season, he must potentially have been the world's most in demand player at the end of last season

I think Leicester are the worst team in the league at the moment, in big trouble.

Oh and watch Man Utd draw with Watford on Saturday at Old Trafford, then were not playing in the league for about a month!

Haven't seen any of the games over the w/e, for some reason I can't bring myself to watch Liverpool playing shite, again!

What odds on Arsenal bending over against a big side!? We just need Wenger to walk about mental strength now when they win their next few games against dross, then he'll say how they aren't out of the title race and as soon as they play a half decent side (ie not Liverpool) they will bend over again and we go back to the start. AGAIN. I really do feel sorry for Arsenal fans, they have a greats quad but they won't win anything meaningful (FAC, and worthless cup don't count, I mean the sort of trophy that will get a CL standard player interested in signing) while Wenger is there.

It appears Liverpool have decided that they are safe from relegation so may as well put their feet up. Has a side that was 2nd at xmas ever been relegated before!? lol

Bottom of the table does look very interesting. I'll be amazed if Sunderland stay up with Moyesy in charge. I suspect Palace will be ok once they get their players back and the new signings can play, though I won't be upset if Fat sam gets relegated. Leicester do look to be in trouble. Everything that went well last year has totally turned around. There's still time for them to drag themselves clear though.

As for the PL title race. It's over. Yeah there are 42 points to play for but for Chelsea to lose it from here we need them to drop 15 pts AND someone else to go on an unbelievable unbeaten run. At the minute I can't see either of those things happening, let alone BOTH happening.

Whats really frustrating is that they wont even win the league cup as its sacked off in pretence at challenging for the league and CL

88 teams across the football leagues would gladly swap places but 10 years of groundhog day is so dull, and I totally agree Arsenal will never challenge again with Wenger there, but on the flip side they will make top 4 nearly every season and keep the owners rich.

I'd rather have the ups and downs of Leicester

I have a feeling Arsenal might miss out on the top 4 this season, it's going to be interesting. His contract is up at the end of the season so I think that will be that.

It's a tough one but as Klopp, Guardiola, Van Gaal, Mourhino etc have proved it takes more than just a successful overseas manager to guarantee top 4. I would be careful what you wish for, as you say some teams would kill for top 4 every season, and trust me as a Spurs fan coming 10th for 20 years in a row is no more interesting

Wenger has stayed about 7 years too long. I think if we never won the cups he'd have been gone. I don't think the FA Cup is worthless, but I understand that foreign players don't value it. It is time for new blood. I don't think Arsenal will fall out of the top 4 this year.

Despite my own Arsenal bashing it does annoy me that the media jump over them so quickly

A Hull defender had the ball kicked at his hand minutes before that goal and quite rightly no penalty was given. The goal was exactly the same with Sanchez knowing nothing about it. Neither incident was deliberate hand ball so no issue - but that doesn't make a good news story :)

Agree - nothing deliberate in either of the handballs. There's no way any referee could have given either of those. Linesman probably should have done better.

Nothing deliberate about either, but one resulted in an Arsenal goal and the other an Arsenal penalty. No, not lucky

Well this is probably the worst I've seen Spurs play all season. Liverpool could be 4-0 up by now. Pocchetino should have taken Wanyama off after 15 minutes, he has literally given the ball away every time he's touched it. Hopefully the second half is a bit better

Phew that was a real let off, chaos. I'd love to say Liverpool were brilliant but I think it was more down to Spurs being abysmal. I expected them to lose or draw as they have a terrible record against Liverpool, was just hoping they didn't lose that six goal difference lead over Arsenal. And they ALMOST blew it.

I hadn't expected more than a point for Spurs, but that was terrible. As Edd has said, Liverpool weren't even that good, Spurs were just awful and should really have been thrashed 4, 5 or 6 nil.

I missed the first half of Pool Spuds, sounds like I missed the good bit. The second half was bloody poor football, very scrappy. From what i've heard and the highlights i've seen Pool deserved it, and maybe should have won by more, but hard to disagree with you boys that it was more Spuds being **** than Pool being brilliant.

Do feel sorry for Hull. That first goal, while not intentional, WAS handball. The fact the ref apologised at HT for not seeing it implies he would have disallowed it. You gotta wonder WTF the Linesman was doing given he had a clear view of it and was looking right at it!? Still, he'll have plenty of time to think about it when he's off in League one next week.
I also thought Kieran Gibbs was amazingly lucky not to be sent off. He was the last man (by 10-15 yards) and made no attempt to play the ball. He blatantly body checked Markovic and gets a yellow card? It's a professional foul and as last man it's a red card. Everyone's favourite ball bag, John Terry, got one for something similar a few weeks ago. Who knows what would have happened had Arsenal gone down to 10. From the highlights it looked like Hull's good form continued and they could well have got something. They are surprising me. They may well stay up. Their new manager, i forget his name, is doing a great job so far.
That in itself shows you how important "knowing the league" and getting the "English mentality" is
I wonder will Merson and Thompson et al be admitting to their mistakes in slagging his appointment? Lol
Course they won't why would xenophobic ex players ever admit they were wrong, they'll just move on and forget all about it. **** knows, if Mike Phelan was still in charge Hull wudnt have done that well, they sure as hell wouldn't have beaten Pool and got a point from Utd either.

On the subjct of English managers, good to see Fat Sam doing well. Couldn't happen to a more deserving wanker.

.

For it to be handball it has to be deliberate. If that happened anywhere else on the pitch there would be no debate. Refs, pundits and players never seem to know the rules of the game - why was the ref apologising. He got it right!

From the FA

'Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm.'

Mind you if the goal was against Arsenal I'd be moaning too ;)

Totally agree that Gibbs was lucky but Arsenal were due some luck there. If that was Xhaka he would have been sent off just for looking at the player

The MOTD highlights were incredibly flattering on Spurs, the reality was a lot worse. Honestly one of the worst performances by any team I've seen this season.

I think the fact the Arsenal goal wouldn't have gone in if it wasn't for his touch is the problem. It's not like the ball was going in anyway and scraped his hand, he pushed the ball in to the goal. Accident or not that should not stand.
