PL 2016-2017 Thread

True, but CSKA were the top seeds and you couldn't get much cushier than them. Monaco Re a bloody good fourth seed, but Spurs should still have qualified from that group without too much difficulty.

Agreed, based on the fact that Spurs (last 4 games aside) qualified for the CL in some style last year. They really should've done much better.

The curse of the early goal bites Spurs yet again! Chelsea were admittedly better in the second half but a draw at half time was absolute bullshit, that was one of the first half performances of the season and Chelsea should have been dead and buried by then. Still at least that's the ridiculous run of difficult fixtures out of the way, wasn't expecting any more points than they got.

I would love to see stats to see which teams concede the most goals from the least opportunities, I bet Spurs are right up there this season. So many games they've drawn or lost from one lucky shot despite massive possession and solid defending.

Looking forward to see Swansea Palace. Sounds like a great game. And Pardew lost, so even better.

That's some record Palace have in the PL in 2016. Something like 22pts from 32 games. That's a he k of a lot worse than relegation form.

Bloody typical, went out shopping when Liverpool went 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes as assumed it was a gimme. Looks like I missed comeback of the season!

Did something similar myself. Was in Dublin for the w/e saw the last 20 mins of first half, commentators said Liverpool were comfortable so I went out with the missus, Imagine my ehhh delight when I heard the final score.

What odds Arsenal get Bayern or the second placed side in the Dortmund/Real group and get humped!?

Well everything in the competition has gone their way so far (their two draws against PSG were pure fluke, and come on PSG drawing with Ludogorets Razgrad?!) so I'm going for Copenhagen

Spoken like a true Spurs fan! Lol
big game for Spuds, and Utd this w/e. Neither can afford to lose really. So 1-1 it is

I'm pretty confident about Man Utd's chances tomorrow, everyone keeps telling me how bad Man Utd are at the moment and I keep asking everyone if they have actually watched them lately or just looked at the results?

We're playing better than we have since Fergie retired, not hard I know!

Probably will be a draw though!

I thought the Utd Spurs match was great, both teams looked really good and could have scored a couple. One of those games where you can't really be angry at the result. Utd were due some luck anyway, I agree with Jose that the results have not matched the performances.

And on top of Spurs losing, Liverpool drawing with 17th place West Ham and City losing to 14th place Leicester, Arsenal not riding the tide of good luck you say? If Chelsea had lost it would have been a clean sweep.

I saw bits of the Utd Spuds game. It looked like a decent game (for a low scorer) but from what I saw Spurs where all huff and puff but created FA squared in the final third. They are great until they are 25-30 yards from goal, then splat, it falls apart. Obviously that's bar the glorious sitter Wanyama missed. I'm putting it down to atrocious marking from Utd, matched only by his "shot".
On the subject of atrocious, Karius, the imposter in nets for Liverpool. Never been convinced by him, and still haven't been able to bring myself to watch the Bournemouth game where he apparently dropped at least one bollock, but can someone tell me WTF he was doing for that Payet goal? He was stood 4 feet from his left post. Payet could literally have driven a bus through the gap he was shown. FFS I could have scored from there. He wasn't brilliant for the second goal, but I blame the deflection and Matip ****ing up before hand, rather than him.
You don't win trophies (insert your own funny) if you defend like that. You definitely don't win them by getting beaten one point from Burnley, Bournemouth and WH.

Still, could be worse, Liverpool could have City's back 4/5. To say they were a shambles against Leicester is a compliment. That's some of the worst defending I have seen in ages. If that was a newly promoted side struggling at the bottom you would just say "they aren't good enough for the PL" but the bulk of that back line are league winner, or in Stones' case the second most expensive defending in the history of world football.
I was never a fan Bravo at Barca and cudnt understand why City wanted him. I still can't. How he is an improvement on Hart I'll never know. As for Kolorov, he is a much a defender as Moreno. At least Liverpool have the decency to leave Moreno on the subs bench.

Good result for the Hammers at Liverpool. Was expecting a battering, especially after going behind so early. The response was excellent though. Poor keeping for the Payet free kick, but it was still a good free kick with plenty of whip. Thought the wall was terrible as well. Such a shame that Randolph ballsed up for their equaliser- by far the worst keeping error in the match. Fabulous save from Henderson later on though.

Onwards and upwards!
