PL 2015-16 Chat

Guss Hiddink is the favourite frim what i'v heard. Not sure if that's just until the end of the season, when they throw everything at Pep Guardiola, or if it'll be on a 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 year basis.

That's one of the most shambolic displays i've seen from a PL side in a while. Liverpool were atrocious fom 1-11, and the subs were no better.

Yep some more really surprising results this week, I'm glad Spurs finally had some luck but who'd have thought United and Liverpool would have lost? Obviously all good teams suffer shock defeats from time to time, but there have been loads the last few weeks. This year I don't think it's going to be a case of best team winning the league, it will be the least **** team (cough cough Arsenal)

It's been a case of least **** for the last few years. Can't remember the last time a side really blew everyone away.

Fergies last season in charge, I thought Man Utd were easily the best team over the entire season, beat Liverpool, Man City and Chelasea away before Christmas and Arsenal at home. Won the league by 11 points and got knocked out of the CL by a very good Real Madrid side. By no means did we have the best squad, Man City did.

That said I agree the standard of the league is falling away. I'm not convinced about Arsenal, everyone seems to be backing them to win the league but Man City could easily do the same. Whoever wins the league will deserve it, you can only beat who your up against.

Wasn't a great team just had RVP banging my them in.

Could be anyone's this year - as an Arsenal fan id be happy if Leicester did something special. Obviously prefer an Arsenal win though :)

Tottenham are suddenly in nose bleed territory. If Kane can stay fit and keep his form you never know...

Smart money should be on City

I'd genuinely love to see Leicester win, but don't believe they will keep this up. Who was the last team to go from nothing to winning the league, Blackburn in '94? I just can't see it happening.

Chelsea are too far behind now, so it's between City and Arsenal in my opinion. Spurs won't get top 4, I'm 100% convinced of that. Not unless Danny Rose suddenly goes missing. Frankly they don't deserve it if they can't win at home to Newcastle.

In fact I just looked it up, here's all of the PL winners and how many times they've won it since it started in '92:

Man Utd: 13
Chelsea: 4
Arsenal: 3
Man city: 2
Blackburn: 1

So in 22 years, only 5 teams have won the PL, and Utd have done so more than the rest put together! That really puts people's expectations in perspective.

Assuming Man Utd don't win the league this season, which they won't. They have only won 2 titles in 6 seasons plus the league cup once. That's our most barren spell since the 80's. Spose it's what you would expect after loosing Fergie though.

Also if we don't win a trophie this season that will be 3 straight seasons without one, that also has not happened since 1989.

Only 7 managers have won the PL as well, also Liverpool have won the league 18 times, just not for 25 years.

Lol, guess what!? Something else we disagree on! Lol.
I really didn't think Utd were the best team that year. As Edd says they had RVP on fire and were the 'least worse'. That's not taking anything away from them, you don't fluke winning a league (or Liverpool would have won one in the last 25 years). I just don't think that Utd side was particularly great. Compared to other Utd title winning sides they were pish. That may well be compliment to Fergy (and as a Liverpool fan, I don't like complimenting that bitter auld ****) that he could take such a (relatively) weak side and make them champs, but it still doesn't change my opinion that they were fairly mediocre champions.

Agreed. If you put the Utd or Liverpool teams from 6/7 years ago, when Liverpool had Torres on fire and Utd had ballbag and vidic etc, they would walk the PL ATM. Ditto the Arsenal "Invincibles" or Jose's early Chelsea sides.
It all goes in cycles. In 5-10 years the PL will be back as the best league in Europe. This is just a lean period.

As I keep saying to my Utd supporting mates, "Welcome to Liverpool's world......................ps, it's ****ing shite!"

If winning the league by 11 points with 89 points and beating all your closes rivals away before Christmas isn't blowing everyone else away then knowone has for a long time and I don't no what is. The season Arsenal whent unbeaton they lost the same amount of games as Man Utd did the treble season in all competitions. 1999/2000 season Man Utd won the league by 18 points with a total of 91. Was everyone else rubish that season or were Man Utd very good. What's the differance between the 1999/00 season and the 2012/13 season. The best team always win the league in my opinion, their's no such thing as bad champions only better. I presume were talking about the way you beat teams then? It's a different league now, look at Palace and Leicester.

RVP was our main man and if he wasn't we wouldn't have won the league that season? But he was fed up with failing at Arsenal. If he had stayed perhaps Arsenal would have won the league that season? I doubt it, seen as he was playing with a Man Utd side that had won 4 out the previous 6 league titles. :)

I'm comparing Utd's last title winning side with its predecessors, particularly other Utd title winning sides. To me they (the last lot under Fergy) were the weakest of the lot. That's as much a reflection of how **** everyone else was and how well Fergy did as it is a dig at Utd. And, yes, we are saying that the PL hasn't had a really stand out champion for a good few years.

It is tough trying to compare sides from different eras. If you took the Utd side that won the PL in 92-93 and put them in the Championship now, they would struggle. Style of play, fitness and most importantly the type Of tackles you can get away with, have changed so much. In '92 that Utd side were head and shoulders above every one else, but times have changed, now they would be GBH Hatchet merchants who struggled to keep 11 players on the pitch. The same holds true with the great Liverpool sides of the 70's and 80's.

The 92/93 Man Utd side whent out in the group stages of the CL following season, but yes they were a stand out side of their generation. The 2010/11 Man Utd side was probably the side that atchieved more than then should have, also reaching the CL final that season. Wayne Rooneys last top season as well IMO, won the league with 82/83 points.

I think it's a case of the PL being a lot more competetive last 5 seasons or so, since City have come on the scene you have at least 3 sides with a genuine chance of winning the league before a ball is kicked. That 92/93 season and all through the 90's we only had one main challenger at a time, that season it was Norwich City and we won the league by 10 points.

The other thing with the PL is now, theirs no easy games. Don't think you can say that about any other league. See Real Madrid won 10-1 the other day. Probably why a lot of top players are staying away from the PL, that and the weather.

That Madrid game was crazy. Think they were behind twice, then Rayo had a player sent off, then another. 4-2 down and down to 9 men at HT against Real, there's only gonna be one out come. Especially when you defend as well as Rayo do. Think, Newcastle under Keegan.

Well what a complete, total, utter shower of **** Arsenal were yesterday. Well done Saints, thoroughly deserved win.

We've all been waiting for Arsenal to do something like this, beat City they loose 4-0 at Southampton. At least your still in the thick of it, Man Utd are in total desaray!

Spurs dangerously close to cementing their status as a mid-table team today, absolutely pathetic. Diabolical defending on the two or three occasions in the entire game the ball went in their own half, sloppy passes, and of course Danny Rose proving himself to be a complete moron yet again - how is he back in the starting line up after the great job Davies has done the last two games? And all against ten men to boot. Really didn't deserve to win, I actually feel sorry for Watford.
