Well i can believe what a bunch of money grabbing bastards paypal they are now charging fee's to send gift payments even if its UK to UK?

It gives the sender the option to pay the additional fee's or to have the fee's for the gift charged to the recipient?

Here is a payment mock up to show you what i mean (The email addy blanked out in red)

They've been doing it for a while Jay.

There is another option though, I think it's personal payment owed? It's on the same option section as gift and that costs nothing.

I thought they only charged on gift payments if there was insufficient funds on your paypal balance(ie;they have to charge a handling fee to take the money from your bank?)

Could be wrong though, nothing surprises me with them anymore

They are theiving c**ts either way though both paypal and ebay.

Its the same 4% fee that is charged on standard PP transactions.

Plus my funding source is a credit card.

lads its not a charity, they are here to make money like every other company.

I would rather not pay it myself but what is the alternative?

Considering how much an international bank transfer costs, I don't mind paying the fee's when using Paypal.

The fees are minimal thank ****...

Grant.

I agree the fee's aren't huge but against all the ebay fee's it all adds up for a seller.

From my experience buying on RS and SWF a lot of sellers with solid reputations will ask for the paypal payment to be sent as a gift which if its somebody you trust and have dealt with before then many of us will do this to save the forum seller there fee's.

Obviously they ask buyers to do this to save money but if they are charging a fee to send a gift now then there is no point them asking for this (especially as the fee is the same but you get no protection)

When i sell items i either suck up the fee's or just incorporate it into the price i thinking from a seller asking you to send a gift payment perspective Chris.

Update i have worked out the problem

Paypal charge you fee's on all the personal options inc Gift, money owed if the amount is £30 or over.

As long as you send Gifts or money owed amounts of less than £30 then there are no fee's.

Chris your payment to Paul must have been less than £30 hence no fee options came up via money owed.

I guess if you are buying items off forum sellers for more than £30 than you can just send multiple payments that don't exceed £30 and you will avoid the fee's.

E.g item cost £46 send 2 gift payments 1 for £30 and 1 for £16 and no fee's are charged.

Jay that has to be one of THE MOST OBVIOUS statements ever made on here!
OF COURSE it was for less than £30...................IT'S BOLLUX, he's a tight fisted bastard!
FFS he wouldn't pay £30 for two genuine £20 notes!

Good detective work tho! 8)

Think you might find the person who sent the gift was charged, I would check with them.

I sent ChrisJ a payment of $25 and I paid the "fee" of a few cents

I sent over £50 to someone else and it cost about £3

Both were marked as gifts :(

The recipient doesn't get charged if you tick it as a gift and choose to pay the fee.

All in all its a ****ing rip off and you may as well get someones bank account number and just do a tranfer for free!!

Paypal are getting way too big for their boots, i aint paying a fee to give someone money..unless its via ebay.
