Paypal insurance for purchases in the US

So do they keep a copy of the customs form for the claim - because they don't over here

A lot of this is down to integrity, you could of course ask the seller to mark it at $30 and then screw him over with a claim/chargeback if it gets lost, but in a lot of people's eyes that's a pretty shitty thing to do (and does happen.)

If you want to avoid the tax, it should be at your risk.

Hey Bram, this is always a tricky one but you have had some sound advice here already.

Is the figure just a loose figure? DT luke or something? In any case, as long as the figure is well protected in transit you should have no real concerns about it getting damaged.

If the figure is unlikely to get damaged then all you need to do is make sure it arrives so definitely use a very good tracking service. It is worth the peace of mind. If you definitely trust the seller then I woulnt pay for insurance to the value of the item as this will get you clobbered with customs fees like Andy says.

I do pay for insurance when getting fragile items shipped as I am paranoid about them getting damaged in transit. However, despite this I think you have to go a long way to prove that the postal service damaged your item. Especially on international shipping. Both countries will more than likely plead ignorance and you would end up shafted IMO. If a figure were to burst through a bubble for example whilst in transit then you would be hard pushed to pin the blame on the postal service as there may not be any physical damage to the box itself.

I guess my advice would be, if you trust the seller; get him to ship it with a trackable service but to mark the value down. If he is a board member then he will have his reputation at stake which is normally an incentive to get the deal right. (99% of the time)

Im sure it will be fine buddy. I look forward to seeing what it is!

I think at the time of claiming, you would be asked to provide all the shipping documents and receipts for the item. They would check to see that the amounts on the shipping docket and payment/ paypal receipt tallied up before proceeding with any kind of refund/ claim.

I had to do this when I made a claim from customs.

when i get US parcels from parcelforce there is always copies of the customs form missing, but if you tried to make a claim which to be honest i never have on an item declared under value, you can bet that USPS would laugh if you tried to make them pay out $1000 on an item declared as a $30 gift, and if they blamed parcelforce they would do the same and ask why you tried to scam the government ect.

unless anyone else has managed to do it?

Hi Chris,

Long time no hear...

Yeah the guy is a member on RS and I have bought from him before.

I just hate the thouht of losing it in transit, he will package it well as he did before and I doubt there will be damage.

Yes it is a DT Luke, there seems to be a shortage of them over here and the ones that are here people want the world for!

I have contacted him again and am awaiting his reply.

Just thought there may be a way round it but it seems there is not.

Sod it! "He who dares, Rodney".

Its only money!

USPS has always told me they can not track items shipped once they leave the states......so for me there is no tracking. As far as sellers(U.S.A.) claiming values, it would have to match the value of the insurance, in order to for the seller to claim on the insurance. I always mark my stuff on customs as a gift and claim the least possible value (btw..that is breaking U.S. federal postal law). I think your customs taxes are bullshit and I do everything I can to help you guys out when I do deals with any of you.

That's the same for Royal Mail too. But the fact you have a tracking number gives you safety through Ebay/Paypal etc.

Really?? :? I track packages to USA and Canada all the time. Have followed them all the way from here to the recipients door. :?

Is it USPS that offers track and trace as this does allow you to see what has happened to the packed once it has left the states

Maybe UPS (United Parcel Service) does it, but our USPS (United States Postal Service) Does not, or so I am told..........I hate that fat ass at the post office. BTW UPS costs twice the amount to ship.

Every item I've had items sent with tracking from both the US and UK I've been able to track them the whole distance. I use http://www.packagetrackr.com/ they even give you a nifty little map which shows you the progress of your item.
