Palitoy 30 Backs

Totally agree that we're tripping over the LXW 20 backs but no such luck with the Palitoy ESB examples be it a 30, 41 or 45 bk release.

It's all relative...

There are at least 4 30 backs out there, not for any other character.

Same with 41 and 45a's. In my previous statment I wasn't impying that they were plentiful, simply that of all the first 20 characters, that is one of the easiest to find on ESB, compared to any of the others.

Of course, that doesn't make it easy just easier that the other 19.

Gary, what kind of numbers exist for the regular 30 back characters?

Of the first 10.....

Well, they are in reasonable numbers. Problem is they are available in both 30a and 30b forms, and not equally so. Some are common on a, but near impossible to find on b.

Not a huge difference between the a and b admittedly, just a slightly larger logo on the b, except for the luke and leia, which on a 30b are a completely different picture to the 30a.

That aside, of the first 10 (a and b taken together except for luke and leia) these are probably the order of rarity.....

With the exception of the first pair, the cards in each group are pretty interchangeable.

It's also very likely that there are fewer complete sets of the first 10 ESB 30 backs (excluding the Luke and leia 30b) than there are complete sets of the palitoy 20. I only know of one other, and a few almost complete sets. There are probably more sets out there, but the same could be said for the palitoy 20 as well.

Then of course, there's the next set of 10 ESB 30 backs :shock:

The demand for 30 Backs is so much higher than a few years ago it seems. I've had people tell me that they used to sell for Ã'£30 each in the late 90's and I've seen old auctions prices including for Boba Fett which back this up.

I certainly am, I know of Gary's spare one and the one KFollectables have but both have issues. I was really wondering what of my chances of finding one in good condition.

Yep, that's what I meant. A full set of ESB 30a and a full set of ESB 30b cardbacks. :wink:

I think the only 30b's I need now are 8 of the first 12 (assuming sand people exists and luke x-wing is the only one of the second 8 to have a 30b).

I picked up a 30b MOC 2-1b for my character focus last year.

From the first wave of 10, the following 30b's are unconfirmed on the http://www.palitoy.org matrix so must be rare:-

The following are listed as cardbacks only:-

The second wave of 10 are all listed as MOC except for Dengar which is unconfirmed as yet.

Yes, that's the one. The old matrix does differ between cardback and MOC so I thought it would be of some relevance to our discussion here.

I recall seeing a thread on RS a while ago about the original 12 MOC on Palitoy 30 Backs. Theres obviously a Chewbacca, and I also recall there is a DSC (Star Destroyer Commander on the packaging as I think someone identified) and a Ben Kenobi. Are there actually any pictures of these floating around anywhere?

Has anyone actually had any sightings of / heard any reliable reports of any of the others MOC?
I know you have some of the cardbacks Jason.

Just curious.

There is reliable testimoney for the existence od all of them in cardback form apart from Sandpeople. The easiest ones tro find are Ben and Han so the chances of them being MOC are higher. I have cardbacks for Han, Ben, Leia and DSC. Ben and DSC were confirmed MOC on the old palitoy matrix.
Darren Simpson had a Chewie MOC at CE last year. That's the only MOC I've ever seen. The closest I have is a resealed Ben.

On the 20 back figures LXW is fairly common. None of the other 7 characters have been seen as 30b yet. Though Gary did mention someone had seen a Hammerhead and maybe a Walrusman back in the day at some collectors show. Over to Gary for any info on that.

I have Luke X-wing MOC.

There's also a chewie.

I've seen both the ben and DSC MOC in person.

C3P0 and Hammerhead were all reported to have shown up at a show back in the 90's

Walrusman apparently was on eBay last year.

I have also been told by another highly reliable collector that Vader, PD, R5 and DSD all exist as well.
