Does anyone know the reasons for going with the figures they chose for the vintage figures ? Seems strange that they had really unimportant characters like the Rancor Keeper for example but missed out

Grand Moff Tarkin
Aunt Beru
Uncle Owen
Banthas
The little remote control car thingy on the Death Star
Admiral Piett
The other Imperial Dignitary
Unmasked Vader

Apparently they intentionally wanted a mix of main and lesser characters. Sure there were a few odd choices and some missed opportunities, but remember that if they hadn't made this choice that many of our favourite figures would never have been made, such as Boba Fett.

Yeah I suppose

The unmasked Vader would have been really cool

Think they pretty much covered all the vehicles didn't they ?

Uncanny. Was thinking the exact same thing yesterday while doing some bodywork on my car. Bodywork is very boring :|

Some of our favourites like Hammerhead, Snaggletooth, um ...General Madine ( ) well they only appeared onscreen for seconds at most. Yet other cool characters like the Imperial Spy in ANH or Dr Evazan (ANH) were never released. Of course the vintage run of figures just seems right to us now, but it could have been so different had they gone with more main characters.

Tarkin, the rebels and a Bantha would have been bad ass. Id happily swap out Snag, HH and the imperial cruiser!

Someone go back in time and make it happen, thanks.

I imagine with a few of these, especially vader, that the tooling that had back in the day would not allow them to make these figures

Also, the Beru and Owen character weren't particularly 'action' led and are not likely to have been that popular

The Luke stormtrooper turned out ok so the Vader could have been similar with the removable helmet etc, I think i've seen a few customs down the years with the below pic on the card, really cool

Anyone think of any others ?

Saarlac Pit monster maybe ?

With you there Nick, the rebel soldiers from ANH would have made a great figure

I've noticed some customs guys on ebay selling Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, albeit in "charred remains" form

Always thought the Death Star Commander guy was a **** choice for the first 12. Should have been Greedo 8)

The Bantha would have been sooooo cool too bad they didn't come thru.

@Nick: Maybe swap the red snag but not the BlueSnag  my favorite figure! :D

@X-Pack: I agree Greedo should've been added to the 1st 12! Greedo is also one of my favorites, his color way is so sick.

I also love Wally :D (Not Junior Chubb  ) Wally has cool colors.

My fav 3

Wally's colors kick ass June... 8)

I made a heart felt defence of Wally somewhere on here to defend him as the classic vintage character, his colour scheme was one of the strong points.

If you wanted a Dr Evazan to go with your Wally, all you had to do was get a large head Han and hold a lighter to his face for 30 seconds, job done.

I also always would have liked the cantina band, loved those prawn headed creatures.

I love all the original figures though and would have hated any of them to not have been made

I think we need to remember, we have hindsight here

As we know the early birds had an issue in getting out there in time

And originally the manufacture of figs were playing catch up, the early days, who knew there would be the demand, and decades later the longevity still going strong.

there are always customs to plug the gap

Whos signature is it that said Ian Botham died to bring us this information?

Classic

No Tarkin... well, I've found a 'skinny' head Imperial Commander with a very pale face who is as Tarkin as I've found so far. A far worse oversight is no Han in Stormtrooper outfit, particularly as in the last 17 they made Luke, and yet choose to produce Barada for no reason I can fathom.

Overall, the vintage run is magnificent achievement for all responsible for making it, considering merchandise of this nature and scale was unprecedented back then. Wouldn't like to lose Hammerhead, he's cool as hell to me and was one of my earliest buys. The sculpting on, for example, Ree-Yees or Greedo is amazing as is the design of 2-1B or ERG.

I know I'm preaching to the choir as all here love our SW goodies, but as kids and indeed 'grown-ups' we're spoilt for choice for VSW sweetness.
