I've been looking for a thread about books so forgive me if a previous thread exists on this. Any recommendations? Can be Star Wars? Fiction or non fiction? All tastes are welcome.

I'm currently reading a Stephen King book right now - The Institute. Early days but it's going ok.

As soon as Covid19 struck in earnest, I felt it was time to re-read Stephen King's 'The Stand - The Complete and Uncut Edition' :-)

I'm now nearing the end of that massive tome, and will probably re-read Asimov's 'Foundation' books next, as I've not read those for 25+ years.

Nearly finished The Beastie Boys Book- loved it! A real insight into growing up in NYC in the 70's/80's, the music business, etc etc. It's even got recipes!

I have The Stand in my pile of books to read. Along with 'Night Fall' by Asimov.

Currently reading "The purple cloud" tiz *****

I fear that now that I've re-read the first one I'll have to re-read the other two next :)
I've never picked up the Aftermath trilogy, but if you are re-reading it, I presume it's a worthy series, so I'll need to pick them up and read them myself :)

I've just started this about the Icelandic football team

Currently reading Book 6 of the Expanse Series. I was reading them before the TV adaptation started and then parked them as I struggle to focus on books these days.

A key character in the books was killed off in the last episode of the latest TV season because the actor faced some accusations of sexual harassment on set. So I'll probably sack that off again now and focus on the books.

The Expanse is decent hard Sci-Fi though, well worth a read, especially for the future colonization of the solar system, I find that stuff really interesting.

a george lucas autobiography and Terry Pratchets mort, love the discworld series, shame he is no longer with us

Just about to start this, which I found out about in time honoured tradition of spotting someone reading it on the train the other day and thinking it might be interesting

EVERY ******* NIGHT. EVERY NIGHT. Just once, can we do something else…..no.

Sensible books I have read recently,

Neuromancer - utter utter dog *****, one of the worst books I have ever read, worse than Paw Patrol. If someone gives you a copy and says you might like it, punch them. Hard.
One second after - great if you like dystopian novels.
Ghost Brigades - very good, and only a semi sequel to 'Old man's war' same galaxy different characters.
Metro 2033 - great premise and bits of it are very good but it drags and in general takes too long to not really go very far. It could just be me, but I find books by Russian authors to be very differently paced, ie slow and wordy.
The church of fear - Scientology is a ****** UP wacko excuse for a cult.
The fall of Numenor - Not bad, a lot more readable than the Silmarillian, but that doesn't say much. If you like LOTR's tiz a fine add on. Not a patch on LOTR or the Hobbit, but good extra background details.

And a load of business books that I doubt anyone has any interest in, Shoemaker, Onward, Pour your heart into it, and Grinding it out.

Just finished, Under the Dome by Stephen King.

**** me it's overly detailed. Nearly 900 pages, which could easily have been 300.

The story is fine, albeit the ending is pish but I read it for the 'how society copes' element rather than 'where did the dome come from?'
If you read it for the latter aspect, prepare to be very disappointed……after reading 900 pages of superfluous detail, about superfluous detail.

Characters are mentioned, we hear their life history, all about their relationship with their wife, what they had for dinner Thursday week ago, and then they die and are mentioned once or twice in passing. That happens about a dozen times. **** knows what the editor was doing but clearly they didn't have scissors/a "delete" button.

My Dad was obsessed with the Dune series of books. I so wish he'd of still been around to watch the recent films…

The films aint great. First one is graphically superb but it only tells half the story. The second one was a huge disappointment.
Genuinely, I prefer the David Lynch one from '84
