match of the day

thats probably twice as much as diof, heskey, cheyrou , cisse and kewell ,50 million, but you get what you pay for
Those players have helped us win (as far as I can remember) 2 FA cups, 1 or 2 League cups, 1 UEFA cup, 1 Super Cup, 2 Charity Shields and 1 Champions League so I don't think they have done too bad !!

Compare that lot to what Rooney, Carrick, Ferdinand, Saha and Ronaldo have won at United !! 8)

with the exception of stevie or jamie there isn't any home grown players at liverpool so bringing that one up craig was a bit suicidal mate
Houllier didn't help there and at least Rafa is giving some a run out, although they are not good enough at the moment.

Both Liverpool and United have been lucky that they both had a good crop of young players come into the side all at the same time.

Gary Neville is a very consistent player, I'll give you that. I can't help thinking he has been lucky in that there haven't been any other good solid international class (English) right backs in the last 10 years. The only other good one I can think of is Rob Jones from Liverpool who retired about 9 years ago.
Danny Mills and the like were never any more than backup/stopgaps.

i dont think those lot helped win **** all did they

beckham, scholes, giggs, keane, neville, ole gunnar helped win 8 premiership titles..... thats 8 more than any of your boys has got

Yeah Bobba, fair point. Four not bad players, well 3 not bad players and the wanker that is Gary Neville.

Spoons, I agree Gerrard is overrated to an extent, but so are most of the supposedly "worldclass" players. Henry for instance, Arsenal actually started playin well while he was injured. Don't get me wrong brilliant player but Arsenal are quite capable of playin well without him.

I agree Weasel, Arsenals best strike pairing is Van persie and Adebayor but Henry is their best striker, they need a new Bergkamp to compliment him.

You can't deny that Henry isn't a world class player, this season he's being playing a different role, hence all his headers and goals like yesterday's equaliser

I think his heart might be elsewhere this season, but he has scored a goal a game since he's been back from injury so can't complain :D

and Jay you may miaow but do you disagree :?:

they did an analasis on neville tonight on motd, he is a bloody good defender. ok he moans a bit but he has never really let united or england down. not many players play their whole careers at one club and for gary, scholes, giggs to do so is a testament to their dedication to their club

henry is world class without a doubt. not sure about adebayor yet , but he is important to arsenal

and no spoons i dont disagree

Like I said Gary Neville is a good solid defender, I can't think of too many **** ups he's made (2 OG's/dodgey back passes in the world club cup thing, United skipped the FA Cup for 4 odd years ago, but that's about all).
Similarly though, I can't think of too many games where you come away thinking "Wow Gary Neville played well!" He is just a very consistent player, I think he's a wanker mind. Not cos he plays for United (obviously that doesn't help him, but I think Giggsy is a great player as is Scholes) just cos he reminds me of a teachers pet, he's the kid in school who would run to teacher if you cheat in a test or who reminds teacher they forgot to give you homework.

I actually don't care that he hates Liverpool/Scousers, to be fair if I was in his position and had to listen to 40 odd thousand Souser singing songs about my mum and implying I was Sol (AIDS boy) Campbell's "special" friend I wouldn't like them no matter what money I was on.
I just get the impression he is the kind of dull as **** goodie two shoes that no1 really likes, and for that reason alone I will always hate the wee wanker.

Spoons, where do Arsenal get another Bergkamp? I can't really even think of another player who plays that way, the man was a genius, but also a complete one of a kind. Although, If Arsenal want the next best thing for a small price.............Harry Kewel is lyin on our Psyhio's couch!

van Persie has the skills but is less of a playmaker, that's why Henry is playing diferently.

I think Wenger might just pass on Kewell

I thought you might like this goal Weasel, might change your mind about Henry's status. Don't know who scared your defence more TH or Jamie Carragher blundering about

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwMWvZAkJu0

I agree with you 100% about Neville though - he's a real weasel (no offence  )

Thanks for the remider of that goal! :(
Although he was clearly off side!

I think Henry is a fantastic player, one of the best (foreign players) the premiership has seen (prob along with Zola, Schmeichel etc) I just think he is overrated like most others, and also that Arsenal are just as good a team without him as they are with him.

Who do you reckon is the most overrated premiership player ever (past or present)?
I have one in mind but I wanna see what people think first.

shevchenko

30 million pounds

he's ****ing useless

Fair point (Ballack as well), although no one is saying they are good or playing well. They may be/have been world class palyers but right now they both play like Jason Lee.

Who do you think is the most overrated player, as in one other people keep going on about how brilliant he is, but you think is shite/certainly not that good.

carrick is a steady player and will get better. although i do think we paid to much for him but thats what happens when utd come calling on a player in a long contract.

hargreeves will be the same come the summer. but i think hargreeves and carrick will form a good midfield for utd when scholes retires and england when gerrards past it

Fat Frank, aye fair enough. Though Scholes retired from international footy cos he was sick of travelling to the arse end of nowhere to play meaningless games against **** teams and would rather haver been at home with his kids. Fair enough really he had been there and done it all anyway.

I reckon Cantona is the most overrated player ever. Any time United played a decent European side, he disappeared, look what happened after he retired..........

i knew that was coming

not sour grapes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eltdicTiXq0

he was a catalyst that took united from being a good team to a great one . would scholes, beckham and some of the others have developed as well without him there, he may have left the year before the famous treble but his impact was still there

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hau9q9lWjXM

come on

interesting one Weasel, I see your point

my money would also be on Fat Lampard.

don't think Shevchenko and Ballack can be written off until after at least a full season, if they last that long

scholes was under a lot of pressure as he hadn't scored for ages for england . all the papers were wanting fat frank to play so after another one of ericssons trysts he said enough was enough. i always felt he was pushed slightly . he has been one of the best footballers of our generation and a model professional. it was a great loss for england

Jay, I knew you'd come back with that FA cup goal!

That's why I said top European teams, not even I would argue that the Liverpool team that played in that FA cup final was a top European team. He was a good premiership player but no more. I reckon Scholes/Giggs etc would have come along and developed as well as they did with out him. Possibly not as well/fast but they would still all have ended up 99% the players they were/are.

I agree with you about Scholesy, absolute model pro (the rest of the premiership players could do well to take a leaf out his book....Glen Johnson etc etc). Maybe he did jump before he was pushed but he should know as well as anyone what the media is like, they jump from bandwagon to bandwagon.
Half the time I'm not even sure they bother to look at what bandwagon they are on. Liverpool's squad rotation is awful one min, now they are third no one is saying anything. Sven is an over paid idiot who is ruining the game, now he's gone so no one bothers pointing out he got you into every tournament he could (over paid, yeah probably). England need an English manager because only they understand the English game (ignoring Kevin Keagan and his tactical retardedness) they now have McClaren and I think the press are starting to see that picking the guy who was 7th best qualified for a job really isn't such a good idea!
