Yes. I decided to sell via eBay! :)

Thanks to everyone on this amazing forum for all your interest and advice. You sure do know your stuff! 8)

Thanks too for those who made private offers. It certainly helped me figure out a fair price at auction.

Auction ends in less then 5 days...

Good luck!

Just a thought but, it would be fair on good guys on this forum by stating at the outset that "I am planning to sell my childhood collection on Ebay...what price should I expect etc"....some of us feel silly getting sentimental about these beautiful "found" childhood collections, that's all. Best of luck with the sales.

I have an idea... I was going to bid, but out of principle I won't now.

I just wondered if people who had put in an offer would all like to message me, I will then tell the highest bidder who he is and that way we won't end up bidding each other up?!

Let me know if you think it's a good idea?

Please forgive my naivety. I never intended to offend or deceive.

I did state that I was 'Looking to sell vintage Kenner Carrying Case with 29 Figures' and that I did say that was looking for offers.
The trouble was, I got so many diverse offers that I thought it should go to the highest bidder in a fair and open manner.
And in my naivety, I opted to go via eBay, and have ended up upsetting several folk; for which I am deeply sorry. :(

No matter, what's done is done.
If people decide not to bid because of some perceived slight on my part, then that's just too bad.

The bidding is already under way and the set will sell for good money in less than 5 days, so if anyone decides to change their mind...

Regards,

Richard

Sounds like a good idea

I do wonder in these sort of instances what the PM's that the seller receives do make him think. I know some of the guys are pretty keen to pick the stuff up, and some buy and sell, so need a margin, but you have to think what is the seller thinking. He has asked for a valuation and in effect received several, all different. Some may be from people to flip, so its on the low side with a margin, some may be from someone who really wants the canadian case, so will be possibly higher to ensure they are in with a shot. How does he know what his stuff is really worth? He doesn't know the community, so is he to trust all of the different offers. Alternatively, he can put it on Ebay.

This will continue to happen with the one post wonder guys, and is this really what the valuations thread is for. Its more useful for someone like myself to post, say a 12 back Tusken Raider with a slightly squashed bubble that I no longer want, that is going to go from the valuations thread, straight to the for sale thread.

Don't be entirely down on these posts. Not long ago Coomber75 turned up looking to sell his loft find Vinyl Jawa and childhood collection. We scoffed, then the photos came, then the collection didn't get sold, and we picked up a new member. Some good comes of these, sometimes.

Just my 2p worth. Don't be too hard on this guy. Its his stuff and his right to do with it what he wants. At least he had the decency to explain his decision, which he didn't really have to do, as well as apologising.

Plus ebay is NOT always the best place to have it sold for the highest price. I make some bargain purchases myself there once in a while.

To be more precise, vintage collecting is sometimes filtering some sort of Murphys law:
If you eagerly want to buy something, ebay is the most expensive place, if your willing or forced to sell it always turned out you lose.

I agree, Ebay can be a real gamble - that's auctions for you.
Eg: I needed an ugnaught bag to complete a loose figure and was watching one that ended up going for £12. The very next day another one was listed and I got it for £1.30.
I feel for anyone who wanted this lot and put in a good offer, there was some nice figures here - nothing rare but even so, it seems genuine, good examples of vintage figures are getting harder/more expensive to come by. This would make a really good starter set.

My only problem is that this is NOT the valuations request section and the guy clearly came on here to sell and asked for offers.

He got the offers and should've just taken the highest one.

Regardless, he has drummed up enough business and now on eBay he can allow the auction to make members bid each other up!

I'm not being hard on anyone just honest, which is what people should be.

If he came on, saying he wanted some valuations but wasn't sure what he was gonna do he could've got that. Instead he he sais he wanted to sell, asked for offers, got some interest and thought "hmmm... I'll stick it on eBay and maybe I will get more".

Facts don't lie, he asked for offers and got them, should have taken the best one. FULL STOP!

This is it exactly how his post came across,, as here is what I have, offers welcome and I will sell to the highest offer I receive.

He should have said from the start "I want a rough value so I have a starting price for an ebay auction".

I can see how this would have pissed people off...

even if he had stated that he only wanted a valuation to sell on ebay people would still pm him making an offer anyway so it wouldnt really have mattered.

I will concede this point. Slightly embarrassing. Guess who uses the view unread threads button  thought he had put the post in the valuations section.

The point I was trying to make was that I can see why, if what he says is true and that he received wildly varying offers, he decided to take the ebay route. He had no intention of sticking around the forum and only wants as much money as he can for his stuff. He will sell it for whatever on ebay and if he gets more or less than the max he was offered then that's his mistake or success to live by.

That's all.

Yeah, couldn't believe it myself, twas even that obscure to me that afterwards I offered you more just out of guilty conscience but you refused.
But I always get back to you and make periodic purchases as you always deliver first class stuff, mate!

I treat everyone of these one time posters as people who are looking to get a price in mind...then off to ebay they go. We have seen this time and time again. For me...they might as well just look at ended auctions on Ebay...then again we are easy whores on here...just dangle that **** in front of us...go for it every time.

I pm'd Richard (the seller) enquiring re the figures. He said that he'd been given a rough estimate of between £150 - £180. I've just checked on Evil-Bay and they're currently upto £185  with a few fays to go (whoever's bidding the price up behave lol  ) Richard seams a decent enough bloke and I really can't blame him for trying to get as much as he can for the figures. I'm certainly going to have a bid simply because of the apparent quality of the items (currently rebuilding my loose collection) although I must say if the price creeps too much higher then I'll just sit back and watch.
