The Palitoy prices were nuts! But I also felt prices in general were crazy :?: Loose figure lots (30-40) in what looked like average condition with no verification on weapons hitting £200+
Also modern figure lots hitting what looked to be IMO crazy money

I'd tuned out by the time the modern stuff came around but I think they were quite big lots of 25+. I've just checked and most only went for an average of about ~£2 per item which is as crap as usual

Other than the 30's most of the rest went at about the going rate didn't they?

Thought the vader made a new record for a 12 back.

You could be right!

That Fx7 hit a new record for 30 backs.

Have never known one to sell for that much ever! That's not far behind the VC jawa!

Some big money collectors moving into palitoy who have completed 12/20 back runs and are now on 30a/30b.

That 41 back ugnaught went for almost a grand too, anything with a logo is gold.

Funny, how we dont see the new big money palitoy collectors on the forums though. Maybe they read and just keep quiet.

:)

My gut feeling is this stuff is only going to get better with the disney franchise taking over. Lots of middle/late 40s new collectors with
large chunks of disposable income to spend. Especially given the UK is coming out of recession now. Geek is chic so toy collecting is
seen as cool whereas a few years ago it wasnt.

Not really, I remember someone quoting less then 5% of collectors bother with forums. I only signed up in Dec 2012 and had been collecting for 10 years prior to that.

Some people keep themselves to themselves.

Wonder if the prices fetched was because the items were sold at auction as opposed to ebay ect. I know you have the 20% odd to add as a premium, but the chance to actually see and hold the items has surely got to be an advantage. Having said that, buyers could have been phone bidders, who knows.

Bidders can be:-

1)at the auction
2)on the phone
3)on the internet
4)commission bid entered before the auction, auctioneer then bids on your behalf up to your max bid

Thanks Jason, I do know how an auction works, used to do a bit of work for one a few years back.

I was off work this morning so watched it happen.

There were alot of commission bids, normally commissions seem to never get what they want but this time they got loads - the Leia, Vader, Snaggletooth, Fett (maybe), Luke Bespin, & FX7 all went to commission bids I think.

There didn't seem to be a massive amount of internet bidders who won, but there were at least 3 people on the phone who got some stuff.

After the internet problems last time maybe people didn't want to risk missing out.

Have to say as well that Vectis descriptions are pretty shite. They call bubbles with crushing (which they do include in the description) as excellent. In my world a crushed bubble is poor/average, it can't be better than that can it? I'd only ever bid on whatever the 'Excellent Plus' items are, anything else is just a massive gamble.

I also agree with whats been said about ebay or Vectis being the best way to sell. I think high end buyers have been put off ebay by all the crap that goes on and the scammers, so are happier to use something like Vectis if they're spending thousands, despite the hefty charges.

In over 20 years or collecting, this has blown me away. There are some insane prices there, actually ridiculous to be honest.I can understand the VCJ Jawa price, but some of these??? ****in ell! The collecting world is going nuts, and this proves it.Ive no doubt there are some very wealthy people bidding, but £7000 for a 30 back is insane.

I will say one thing though. The recent sky rocketing in prices for MOC,cardbacks with the logo WILL prove very handy for repro card makers. Many collectors are simply being priced out of the game now,and i feel many will go repro just to have that aesthetic, nostalgia buzz.

Whilst Chris and I were at Sandown on Saturday we spoke to Vectis about their next auction and he said that they have a MASSIVE Palitoy sale coming up in April, he said that the Palitoy lot that was coming up (todays) was nothing compared to what they have in their 18 acres of storage!!

Watch out guys, it's coming...

I too was told by Vectis there is a lot more to come
Wonder what is in store and where the hell it is coming from :roll

Already getting goose bumps :!:

Start saving boys

Hehe can't wait for April!!

Where do all these collections come from?? I used to panic and overbid thinking stuff would never come up again, but it always does

Some 45a's would be very nice.

Insane prices on some of those!

Agreed vectis descriptions are bad, slight bubble lift normally means it's come off by the time you receive it in the post!

.

That was the main reason I only bid low, for example the luke X wing carded figure looked excellent and had virtually the same description as another carded figure that had a squashed bubble and a crease which made me cautious incase there was unseen damage to the luke card, if the descriptions were more accurate would be better, even the fett card with its creases and dented bubble description made it sound sweet.

I think it's best to go there if your really serious about buying from them. I know it's a 4 hr trip from mine, but if there is a another big auction coming up it may be worth while?
I know Andy Davies has been there a few times and he has said to me about the overall condition v description being different in the flesh.

Have given feedback to Kathy on auction descriptions and pointed her at this thread. Hopefully we'll see improvement for Aprils auction.

:)

cheers Jason
