9/10 Brilliant film
Technically a better written film than the first, with lots of topical subjects being included (to please the snowflakes and politically correct
), but like Star Wars, with ESB being technically the better film, I still prefer the original, as you can't beat an origin film, and it perfectly stands on it's on. Only let down was it was bloody obvious from early on who the villain was. Syndrome was a much better villain.

Maybe, this film is not very popular, bit I was really impressed by it. The situation was so complicated that it's difficult to determine who's right and who's wrong. I can recommend it.

THE MEG
Actually saw thi on opening day, but neglected to update the thread.
It's exactly what you would expect... trashy, silly, slightly above average special effects and the obligatory lady pleaser of having the lead take his top off a few times.
That said, I actually really enjoyed it, said to myself in my head 'they're gonna need a bigger boat' and even jumped at ONE bit too. If you want something with a flawless plot, don't watch this (or actually any film of recent release), if you want the nostalgia of Jaws, don't watch this, if you can for 2 hours not take the world too seriously and let the guns and harpoons and massively oversized prehistoric Megaladon CGI wash over you, you'll probably have a good time too.

i wondered out of interest if the effects looked dated after nearly 20 years....
to my suprise it still looks awesome which is a testament to the film makers

Watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind- Directors cut on Blu-ray last night, really enjoyed it.
I haven't seen this in years, the story has many holes, but if you look though those it's an enjoyable 2 1/4 hours.
I'm not sure that it's stood the rest of time as well as SW, but it transported me back to the 70's as soon as it started, great nostalgia.
Recommend to anyone that has not seen it for a few years.

I saw a bit of the first two LOTR's films over the last two weeks. I forgot just how good they were. They really make the Hobbit look the piss poor rushed follow up it was.

Independence Day Resurgence, already watched it when it first come out but bought it again on blu ray last week, a really enjoyable film, not as cheesy as the first one, some great action and CGI and a pretty good enjoyable plot.
Though I feel like it wouldn't have been an Independence Day film at all to me without most of the old characters in it from the first one, giving that Earth's setting now looks super futuristic after adapting the alien technology from the first invasion and now looks almost nothing like modern day Earth, if it wasn't for the original cast it would have just been like any old futuristic sci-fi film.

OK, as ever, not a traditional fan of Marvel movies, but I keep putting myself through them in the hope to find one watchable. This has (from what I've seen) had some pretty crappy reviews... BUT... I really, really enjoyed it!
Yep, a marvel film that didn't bore me or just follow the exact same formula of all the other dross that has gone before...
it's funny, the effects are fun, the fights and action for once have a basis in the real world. The main chap is actually pretty decent at acting too.
I fully expect anyone that loves all the other Marvel films to date will hate it... hey ho

Simply one of the best films I've seen.
Saw this one in IMAX even though it's not 3D it's worth the extra pennies.
Beautifully made in every way; art direction and cinematography is breathtaking. The test flight and Gemini launch sequences are truly otherworldly... all the actors make a great stab of it from start to finish with no missed beats. Armstrong's wife is fantastic and the way the film slips to a slightly grainy 60's documentary or Cine film every so often to emphasise certain characteristics is brilliant!
As an aside if you have an interest in space flight and Apollo/Gemini then this ticks that box too, but is so much more... a truly emotional experience and not just the storyline!

I managed to catch "they shall not grow old" last week for the premier but I think it's going on general release around rememberance day.
If you haven't heard, the imperial war museum contracted Peter Jackson to create a short film to commemorate the 100 years since armistice day and what his production company has achieved is outstanding.
In a nutshell they've taken WWI footage and colourised it, sorted out the frame rate so the soldiers don't walk like Charlie Chaplin and he's put a soundtrack over the footage using sound effects and voice actors from the regions of each battalion so the accents are correct. The result is like nothing you've ever seen and I had to keep reminding myself it wasn't a recreation.
The overall film is dubbed with accounts from real veterans recalling their time from training to the trenches to armistice day and it works flawlessly.
I can thoroughly recommend a viewing if you can catch one, it made me see the Great War like never before.

Watched John Wick 1 & 2 the past couple of weeks, twice, love those films, although you can't beat the first one. Also watched Ghost In The Shell, amazing film with a good story, action and cool CGI visuals, I don't know squat about the anime so I can't compare to it or know how faithful the live action movie is to it, but I loved it.
Also looking forward to watching First Man, not in any rush though so i'm gonna wait till the blu-ray release.

The only time I choose the cinema is if there's a film I just cannot wait to see.

I went to see Bohemian Rahapsody last night and throughly enjoyed it.
I would recommend seeing this even if you were/are a passing fan of Freddy/Queen.
Yes there a few liberties taken here and there, especially with the rest of the groups attitudes towards Freddy's partying, but if you look through these overall a great way to spend two hours.

yesterday I saw Short Circuit, it has been about 20 years since I last saw that movie and I think it is still amazing. I found it last week at a garage sale on dvd for £0,5 and it looked like new :lol:
