I just finished watching an classic (for the first time) - The African Queen with Humphrey Bogart
It was a pretty good film actually and I'm glad I made the effort to watch it - a bit of a quirky, old fashioned vibe (of course) but I'd recommend it

Just watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and now watching Kelly's Heroes!
Will always love Indy, even if this one was my third favourite out of the four. Kelly's Heroes is off to a good start too.... must move, must move... oh, why bother!

Love and Friendship - period drama which I normally avoid like the plague, but all the critics were giving it praise for being brilliantly funny, so gave it a go. Not too bad as something I don't normally watch, but had to concentrate really hard because it's almost like another language. You can tell I don't read much.
Eight Days A Week - Beatles documentary film directed by Ron Howard. I'm not into The Beatles at all, I don't have 1 of their songs on my iPod, but I can appreciate their talent.
The Take/Bastille Day - didn't have high hopes for this as you didn't hear much about it. It wasn't too bad actually, similar feel to Taken in terms of French bad guys and fight choreography. This definitely feels like a platform for Idris Elba to show he could be Bond, even though he keeps banging on that he's not interested.
Finding Dory - not even close to Finding Nemo. Soon into the film I was up doing things just half paying attention.

Finding Dory - In contrast to the above review, we loved it (we being me, the wife, my 12 and 15 year olds and a mate); alll of thought it was brilliant. Sure not quite as good as Nemo, but not that big a void and actually a very different film. Far more gags and that made it much funnier, it did though lack the emotional depth that was in Nemo as a contrast. Main characters were as good as before and the new Octopus character was a great addition.
Lady in the Van - One of the best and funniest as well as touching films I've seen in ages. IMO a must watch, not least for the wonderful Alan Bennett split personality moments...

Lego movie, it's ok. Kills 90mins. Not as good as the first one but a decent film. Kids will probably like it too.
Resident evil 238. Dreadful. I don't mind mindless gore and zombie/mutant type films. There is definitely a time and place for them. Ie when you can't be arsed with a complicated plot or having to think but you just want some random action or violence. This one is terrible though. More holes in the plot than actual plot, though that dosn't say much, the plot reads like they got a nine year old to write it in his lunch break. Ignoring the fact it's about zombies/mutants, the laws of physics seem to work on a time share basis. When the plot wants them to do one thing they do, when it doesn't need them they are ignored. Normally that wouldn't bother me too much, but it's just soo blatant and happens so often that the whole film just descends into a continuous orgy of zombie killing, that's mostly too fast to follow, and you just don't give a **** what happens. It's a rank bad film. Save your money and don't bother. Don't even bother downloading it, it's that bad.
Trainspotting 2. I'd read the book of the sequel years ago. It's called "Porno" i've no idea why they didn't go with that as a title. Much catchier than Trainspotting 2. :lol: . T2 is good, quite different to what I was expecting. Surprisingly deep in parts and quite like the original in others. Well worth a watch if you liked the original. PROBABLY not one to take the kids to though.

Seems an age since I posted in here, but actually I'm the penultimate poster... maybe its just not as active a thread as it once was!
Trainspotting 2 - Pretty much agree with Weasel. Read Porno, film should've been called that too. Average in my mind and only reason to watch it is if you're a fan of the original I guess. A real pale comparison though, so don't get invested in it being great...
Lion - I have to say right off the bat that this is one of the best films I've ever seen. Dev Patel is brilliant, the story is brilliant (even more so as its a true story), the rest of the cast is brilliant with a stand out performance from a very young child - Dev Patel's character's younger self. The cinematography is superb and the score is awesome. Can't find fault with it on any level. Dare anyone to watch it and not have some level of emotional involvement by the end.
Olympus Has Fallen - a re-watch actually, for a late night silly season run around a shoot everything its OK. The take down of the White House is actually pretty impressive but it tails off dramatically after that... if you stop after 35/40 minutes you've seen the best of the film.

The founder - about how Mcdonalds came to be . Actually enjoyed it more than i thought . It was quite interesting stuff . Michael Keaton was pretty good in it

Hacksaw Ridge......jesus this is a gory film!
Great story though and the sound is amazing!
A Monster Calls......good story and quite M. Night Shyamalan in that there are clues throughout the film. Also great visual effects and the lead role by the young boy (Lewis MacDougall) is great. Kinda hard to see Felicity Jones in the role she plays after Rogue One though, felt a lot of empathy with her as it reminded me of what my mum went through in her last months.
