I thought Predators was ok.
As Josh says, better than the Alien V's movies but not as good as the original 2. Still nto a bad few hours entertainment. Better than ruddy twighlight that I got dragged to yesterday. Having not seen the first two I had no idea what was going on, not that there was much plot anyway it was bloody obvious what was gonna happen it just took two hours for it to happen, AND the bird in it didn't even have the decency to get her tits out! :roll:

Shutter Island (4/5)- Highly recommend. This is a great watch. I've not been a fan of DiCaprio for a long time. For me he is probably the most overrated actor in the business so i went into this with scepticism. But it really gripped me from the outset. It's not perfect and at times the story gets a little chaotic and you're not sure what's going on but stick with it.

Green Zone (2/5) - This is dull. It tries very hard to do a "Bourne in Iraq" but in the end it's just boring in Iraq. It's over complicated, drawn out, scrappy and at no point do you give a **** about anyone or anything in the film. Not much good i can say about it at all really. Few good action bits here and there and an ok ending.

I love Leonardo Di Caprio!

I think he truly is one of, if not, the best actor of his generation. Come on!

One of his first being "What's eating Gilbert Grape" which is a good film but made so much better because of his performance.
"The Basketball Diaries" is one of my favourite films and Di Caprio along with Mark Wahlberg is superb in that.

OK, I can understand the feeling towards him from Titanic, and I along with everybody does not like him for that, but the films he has done in the last 10 years are simply amazing.
I'm not going to go to imdb to list all of his films but such films as:

The Aviator
The Beach
Catch me if you can
The Departed
Blood Diamond (a truly brilliant film)
Shutter Island


I haven't seen Inception yet and will go into it with a clear mind :wink:

For me the last 10 years has been pretty poor quality from him and he always seems to go for the same sort of thing. Enough with Scorsesse already!
Some of his roles in the 90's were great, Gilbert Grape and Basketball Diaries especially.
The best actors of his generation are Daniel Day Lewis (4 Oscar noms, 2 wins) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (3 Oscar noms in 5 years, 1 win). He has never once got near the standard of their best work for me.

To be fair i haven't got round to seeing Blood Diamond yet but i will do and if he's good in it, fair enough. Shutter Island was great but his performance was just ok.
The Aviator, The Beach, Catch me if you can, The Departed i found all to be just above average at best tho his performance in Aviator was better than usual. And that's not to mention Gangs of New York and Body of Lies which were both fairly awful.
It's not that he's awful, it's just that he's always quite bland and never surprises or excels. I waited years for his "big role" and it never came. Now i've lost patience with his 1 tone performances.

Saw Toy Story 3 recently. Really loved the film as expected.

Completely agree about Hoffman (I would have to say that Boogie Nights is in my top ten ) but I think I have your opinion about Di Caprio about Daniel Day Lewis!

I really am not a fan of his at all, apart from In the name of the father or My left foot for example. I just think that he plays the same character in every movie - I agree with you about the Gangs of New York and it was boring as anything (apart from the beginning with Liam Neeson :wink: ) but I have to say that with There will be blood I was so disappointed and again BORED! (How on earth EMPIRE can give the film the title of the film of the noughties is beyond me - I suppose that concurs your point on the quality of the last 10 years worth of film Pete!)

You MUST see Blood Diamond (I just hope I haven't hyped it up too much!)

Fair enough, personally Daniel D-L's performance in There Will Be Blood took my breath away. Best performance of the decade for me (tho not best film that would either be Memento or Adaptation). Only film i didn't like DDL in funnily enough was Gangs of New York, thought he was really hammy. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

But i promise i will watch Blood Diamond and get back to you. I have heard good things. I have it on my Hard Drive so maybe tonight.

Just seen the Darjeeling Limited and really liked it. I love Wes Anderson's films and the Royal Tenenbaums is one of my all time favourites.

The wife hated it though "because nothing happened"

Where The Wild Things Are (2/5) - Beware, this is incredibly heavy ****. One of the most depressing films i have ever seen. Not a light moment from start to finish... Jeeeez. I need to go watch Shindler's List or something for a bit of light relief...
It's a shame, i was expecting so much more from the usually brilliant Spike Jones.

She's Out Of My League (2.5/5) - Implausible, goofy, light, rom-com strengthened by a talented young cast and 4 or 5 genuinely funny moments including one "shaving" scene which had me laughing out loud, tho i have a strange sense of humour.
It's enjoyable enough but very lazily written and not buyable for a minute. A real one-watcher.

It's A Boy Girl Thing (1.5/5) - Wanna see Sharon Osborne embarrass herself and make a complete hash of her career as an actor then give this a watch. Not much else to say. We've seen all this before, many many times... at least 3 times last year.

Yeah Fanboys is getting on a bit now, (2008), but quite funny in parts. Not the best film but a good watch from a fans point of view. The last line on the movie made me crack up... "dude,... what if it sucks..." :lol: Brilliant.

saw the A-team last night. After reading the reviews in various newspapers as well as Total Film and empire I wasn't expecting muc at all but ended up loving the film! Seriously, go in expecting it to be ***** and you'll love it!

I went to see it at the w/e and have never been more underwhelmed by a film in my life. It's OK but nothing more. Definately not one of the best films I've seen this year, not by a long stretch.

Just seen 'The Crazies' on dvd. Not much different from any other zombie type film out there. Its only saving grace being Timothy Olyphant who brought a bit more personality to an overused format.

Blood Diamond (4/5) - Took me ages to get round to watching this mainly because of the ever-dull presence of scowling Leonardo DiCaprio and, i suppose, the heavy subject matter but now i feel a little guilty because the film is excellent and so is Leo . Gripping from start to finish and at times, quite terrifying. The direction, by Edward Swick (The Last Samurai, Glory, Legends of the Fall) and cinematography is typically stunning also, and rare for a modern film, the story at no point lags or tails off.
The ever solid Djimon Hounsou smashes it too. Highly recommend.

What did I tell you Pete?!!! BUT, if you thought it wa excellent then why only give it a 4/5?!!! this really is a film that seemed to come out of nowhere. Everyone who i've ever spoken to about this film has always said what a brilliant film it is.

The way i rate a 4/5 is very good and quite rare. 5/5 means perfect. As good as a film can be or ever has been. I personally haven't seen many. Not this last decade anyway. It's an excellent watch but i've seen better films. There's nothing big enough wrong with it to mention tho.
So fret not, 4's pretty hot in my books.

I watch quite a few foreign films tho get round to them slower than American and british movies.
Recently have seen a few french films Angel-A (3.5-4/5), Amelie (3.5-4/5), Paris J'taime (3.5/5).
The Japanese Horror scene is right up my street too Audition is great.
A few other foreign films i've seen off the top of my head. If you haven't seen the underlined then do so! They're really good.

La Haine (French) brilliant.
Doberman (French) Good
Priceless (French) Average
Run Lola Run (German) is a bit of a classic.
The Lives of Others (German) Good.
Man Bites Dog (Belgian) is cool. Very twisted.
Battle Royal (Japanese) excellent
Old Boy (Korean) Great

Lots more but can't think.
Loads of new stuff i wanna see too. Mesarine: Public Enemy No1 looks good.

seen La Haine, the lives of others, Oldboy and Battle Royale and loved them all. Not seen the others but one of my friends is mad on Korean and Japanese films and so he probably shows me one or two a month!

I only ask because I saw this film a few months back called Irreversible and as of yet I haven't met a single person that's ever seen it (the whole way through at least). I bought Mesrine (French) a couple of months ago on blu-ray and still haven't got round to seeing it but when reading about the main actor, Vincent Cassel, it spoke about his brilliant performance in a very controversial film called Irreversible. I borrowed it off a mate who couldn't watch it after what he saw in the first 20 minutes so I watched it and honestly I couldn't stop thinking about it for about 2-3 weeks

If you like your foreign films and a seriously ******* head trauma of a film then watch it

By the way, I saw Funny Games, Mean Streets, Waltz with Bashir for the first time last week and enjoyed Waltz with Bashir, thought Mean Streets was excellent and thought Funny Games was a pile of ****! Thankfully I only recorded it off the tv and didn't pay for it because I would have been fuming!

Irreversible really is a strange film - I really thought it was an excellent film but it was just so brutal! I've never seen another film like it. If you see it let me know what you think, but honestly, be warned!

yeah, i know what you mean Poncho. I thought it was a brilliant film but a complete head-****. I like violence in a film but this way beyond anything I had ever seen before - it is quite notorious, not only just for its vioence but also for the amount of sexual violence. Put it this way..... i'd never let the wife see it!

I remember watching it during the day and even after it had finished I just sat on the settee staring for about 30 minutes! I've never met anyone else who's seen it all the way through

Watched Blood Diamond yesterday, good film. Not a fan of Di Caprio but good performance nevertheless, his Zimbabwe accent was pretty good only noticed a few lapses. 4/5
Looking forward to seeing The Expendables.
