Hi Anthony,

The red bar variant is one where an extra 'block' on R5-D4's sticker was printed red. It's something most people wouldn't even notice unless it was pointed out, but it changes a £25 figure into a £300 one.

Hope that helps :)

Ok, I know about Red Bar R5, but what is the difference between 1 and 2, is it head size?
And by the way, that's got to be the best Red Bar R5 I've ever seen!

Thanks Nick :)

Yes, the one on the left is a narrow head, and both the one in the middle and the red bar figures are wide heads.

Hi Jeremy

Thanks for clarifying that for me. When I first collected back in 2001-04 I used to collect loose variants but I never heard of that one. Its amazing the price differential between a red bar and a non red bar, I guess you really need to know you're stuff with loose figures now.

Does the Country of Origin make much difference to the value of a figure?

Thanks

Anthony

You're welcome :)

Some variants seem to come and go out of fashion, and the red bar R5 has shot up in value over the past few years. I imagine there may be some figures for which the COO alone could affect the price (although I can't think of one off the top of my head), but I think it's also fair to say that most variant collectors (apart from the die hard COO collectors, who like to try to collect every COO available, of course) are less concerned with the COO on a figure and much more bothered about which figure it appears to be.

By that, I mean of course that if for example the red bar R5 were to come in more than one COO (and I have no idea if it does), personally I wouldn't really care. If I have two otherwise identical looking red bar figures, and the only thing differentiating them are their COO's, then it's not a difference that interests me personally. Most people wanting a red bar R5 simply want that; a red bar R5. Only a tiny percentage of them would care if there were multiple COO's of the red bar figure available. And of course, since supply and demand rules, if no one is looking for a specific COO variant, it won't command a higher price than a more common COO of the same figure.

However, of course it should also go without saying that if the rare variant of a given figure happens to be a unique COO (e.g. if all red bar R5's are one specific COO), then yes of course the COO would affect the price, because that specific COO happens to be the one that the rare variant has.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

Does anyone know if the Red Bar R5 was packed by one particular company or factory or have they been found on all card backs?

I believe it was produced by one particular factory but can be found on a few different cardbacks but don't take my word for it hopefully someone will know for sure .

It has been confirmed on SW and Jedi cards but only rumoured on ESB- see Richards article on Jedi News:
