i allways ask the seller to lower what it is insured for to try and avoid the custom charges but the royal mail charges are just as bad

Those charges are caused by the original declaration value!

Hi Boba
I know Those charges are caused by the original declaration value! but i rather it was insured in case it gets lost

Well thats the chance you take. I've been lucky so far and I've bought a lot from the States. No doubt I'll get stung soon though!

I just got hit with a Ã'£30 custom charge on a figure from the States  Thats the second time in 6 weeks I've had to pay out :( :(

I'm starting to wonder now if its worth while buying from America

G/f Kerry just got me 2 star-wars t-shirt from america Ã'£32 including postage just got hit Ã'£13 custom and parcel force charges WANKERS

Ive been hit with two customs charges within the space of two days (Ã'£30) for a Ã'£60 figure and Ã'£60 for two at Ã'£200 total, don't make sense!

Well, I posted this before and no one took a blind bit of notice, but I think you all will now!!!

I had a load of stuff delivered from Brians toys earlier this year.

I got everything through on 5% customs, rather than the usual 17.5%, or whatever it is.

I had some items recently from Brians Toys and got charged the full amount again.

I complained through UPS (who delivered them) and I won my case with customs and got over Ã'£100 refunded.

All I had to do was say it was a limited addition collectable for my own use and not for resale.

Maybe that info will be of some use to you in the future.

Not heard of that before Gary, I musta missed your initial posting.

You have to pay the Parcelforce/UPS clearance fee etc and then reclaim the VAT from Customs or did you reclaim it all from UPS?

it puts you off sometimes getting stuff from america but theres more selection and the stuff is mostly cheaper than here in the UK

Parcelforce have totally screwed me! Should have delivered Monday and didn't, then they deliver one of the items today so i had to phone up and ask where the other was and there response 'oh you expecting another then?'. After passing on their UPI number or whatever tracking they use theyre telling me they can't find it and it may even be at the international Coventry Hub. To think Birmingham Parcelfore have sent me an invoice, been paid for and still at their international hub is ridiculous and hes blaming the christmas rush!!

Arghhhh Parcelforce just rang to confirm that they can't find my parcel  to think it was a ESB Cloud Car Pilot AFA 80 and i only paid Ã'£60 in total for him and another stupid Ã'£22 customs charge!! Typical...and to top it off my Credit Card bill has just arrived for me to pay for them....how do i go about telling my credit card (mastercard) that i haven't received my package so i won't have to pay ??

I'm guessing you just tell them that, or else Parcelforce will re-imburse you and so on your next statement you should see a credit for the exact amount your billed this month.

Brian's Toys actual postage charges put me off from even looking at their auctions!!
funny you saying that when i browse auctions... if i click on an item I am interested in and see its brianstoys , I just close it off, if its cloudcity I dont

after all cloudcity postage charges are cheaper, their prices are usuall cheaper and usually offer a submit best offer so you can get a better deal plus if you ask them they still insure if for full amount third party plus oinly mark a 20 dollar gift on package whilst Brianstoys wont help you out at all and mark it at its highest value

its ashame really as i use to like getting things from them but just cant afford to be paying all those extra fees now

I agree totally, and I know plenty of other people who think the same!

Well i managed to recover the customs charge of Ã'£20 for the missing figure but it was certainly a tedious process in which i had to gove them my credit card details so that they could refund my card, surely you would of thought they would already have these after i paid for it the other day :x
