fb finds

Ive seen 3 vintage lots in a charity shop near me at work in 6 years. one lot had a beaten Falcon with around 10 figures, including a 1 armed Luke Stormtrooper for £65 :D I did actually buy a Rebel Transport and a bundle of SW related merchandise for around £10 or so a few years back in the same shop.

They do know what it is, and sometimes price it high...

Will always pop into a charity shop when passing. Best and only vintage find for me was a DV Star Destroyer in good nick although not complete for £5, thereafter I always made sure I popped back in the hope that more stuff would turn up............. wasn't to be.

Ive been rummaging through charity shops for years. Not just for vintage SW but all sorts. I had never see any vintage SW in one until Tuesday this week!

A shop in Buxton had various modern bits in: an incomplete ATOC Clone Dropship, Queen Amidala's big silver ship thing and then in the counter display a dozen die cast modern
mini figurines....and a lonely diecast vintage Cloud Car. It was remarkably glossy but still had just too many chips on it to merit the very reasonable £8 price tag for me, so I left it. Was good to see some vintage SW for the first time, though.

I HATE it when, having asked a price on something at a car boot, eBay is quoted. OK, if you tell me it's £50 on eBay but mine for £25 I'll respect that but tell me I'm getting a bargain at £40 I'll tell you to cock off. eBay has a global customer base of 10s of millions. Your shitty car boot stall hosting your pile of utter crap is lucky to get to a couple of thousand, 99.5% of whom wouldn't even be able to ID the figure/ship/thing. I'd rather pay £50 on eBay, get it delivered and know if owt is wrong it goes straight back to them. Tossers.

I think it's a windup there's that much talk now of starwars I think people are clued in.
still it would be amazing if it was still happening :)

There is still stuff to be found. In fact last year I found a number of things on my travels...

Charity shop pickups:
Loose Stormie for a quid (inc weapon)
Loose Lando for a quid (cape, no weapon)
VME for £2

Boot fair pickups ( I do try to do 2-3 a week from May to September, so not the best return, still fun looking though):
A dozen loose figures with some accessories for no more than a tenner in total over a few different fairs
Loose AT-AT, missing one chin gun for £25
C3PO Cookie Jar boxed £20 - not vintage but a killer item
Force FX Lightsaber £2 - fully working
Die Cast Star Destroyer with blockade runner £8
Die Cast SLave 1 £4
Die Cast Snowspeeder £5
Burger King cup (Kenobi) £6

All in one calendar year... I also turned down a full box of every Diagostini carded figure for £25 one Sunday too - not vintage, but still seem to tick over on eBay.

Not MOCs of course, but there really is stuff out there, just luck of the draw and persistence I guess...

I went to sunderland air show last year, they have a market sort of thing there for promoting and selling different things, I bought 2 moc logray figures for 20 pounds, couldn't believe my eyes had to look twice. only time I have ever found anything like that.

What's more annoying on FB is " I seen this item , and it's a great price , should I buy it? "

F off !

Or what's in the box bollocks ?

Exactly this!

The whole posting pics and asking "now what's in the box?" is one of the most self-gratuitous things I have seen in the hobby. It reeks of showing off, and the worst thing is, some of the people doing it are long time respected collectors.

I could see If maybe it was a once in a great while thing and the item was your all time grail...but everyday....come on...who really gives a ****.

"What's in the box" posts are incredibly annoying, but it seems to be a trend of the times that people like to tease things out.

Have you ever watched a video tutorial on youtube about how to do something? Maybe you need to mend a part on an appliance, maybe pointing on brickwork, maybe how to get past a tricky level on a video game - it is the same ****. They tease it out. Every time. They have 30 seconds of information to impart and they eek it out to make some laborious 10 minute marathon that you have to sit through.

What's in the box and "mail call" **** me right off.

Yes that's another one , mail call !

Mail Call - I'm honoured to add this to my collection - 'one' of my grails...

...then 3 weeks later 'for sale as I've seen a grail for sale', only $1,000 more than I paid.

What's 'mail call'?

Non-facebook Pat

Show off tossers letting the 'collecting world' know they've (probably) overspent on something and that they are about to open the parcel with it in (or have opened it) before putting it into another box for two weeks and then selling it again.. its a new world order of collecting, collecting likes and followers and not a lot else.

These are not the collectors you are looking for.. move along..
