Cost of shipping a MOC from US or Canada to UK

I don't think there is anything wrong with questioning shipping prices, Nearly all of the MOCs I've bought till now were Palitoys and I bought them from the UK. If you are buying a $180 MOC from the US and pay $45 shipping costs and then get stuck with £50 customs and handling charges on top it really doesn't make it worth it.

I wouldn't bother bidding on Ebay items located in the US again. That's more of a trust thing because I have no idea who the sellers are. If Todd had offered me that ESB Sandperson he had I would have probably gone for that. Second one i've missed out on

In this case I would buy it and ask the seller to declare low value but have it tracked, if they are happy to do so and you are happy that if anything happens then so be it. No problem.

Hope I didn't come across badly, just my thoughts on it all. :D

So what did you guys figure out? Was I over charging Oli?

Yes....the shipping prices are to high but that shouldn't reflect on me as a seller. I have been shipping AFA pieces to the UK for a long time now and this is the going rate.

First class with no tracking or insurance is cheaper. I would prefer not to use this for anything over $100 ( & is not suitable for Paypal or ebay transactions )
Priority shipping is the way to go & $45 is what I'd expect to pay.

I ship overseas constantly. Here's the skinny

To ship ANYTHING Priority Mail to the UK is at least $42 (or $40.74 if shipping is purchased online). That price is for 1 ounce to 1 pound. So a single loose figure in a box is $42 tracked. Then add about $3 per pound after the 1st pound (and it's a rounding up to the next pound). Insurance can add anywhere from $4-$20 bucks depending on value. This does track door to door. Once it gets to the UK you see it hit customs, then the final destination.

Also you can't insure for more than declared value and yes it's illegal to mark as gift or declare low value. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen though....

For non-trackable you choose regular mail. The minimum charge for 1 ounce is $6.55 and then increase , per ounce, up to 1lb. Then is goes per pound up to a max of 4 pounds. Then you have to ship Priority.

I just shipped several MOCs in boxes. They all weighed about 7 or 9 ounces. Shipping was $11.48 or $14.90 respectively. Keep in mind there is no tracking. You only see that the seller actually dropped it off and , if you're lucky, might see it scanned at the US customs location.

Hope this sheds some light

John

Most of my US purchases range from 40-50 for fully insured and tracked, its the norm nowadays to send it this way, any other way is like us using standard parcels unrecorded.

and my take on the "gift" thing is its at the buyers risk, you mark the value at $20 and thats the compensation you receive if it goes missing or gets damaged. if you are going to ask for low value you might be best off paying $40 for priority and marking it at say $50 value, if you value it too low UK customs will open it and ruin a moc like they did with me lol

Andy

Thanks for the opinions guys. So sounds like $45 is pretty standard if you want tracking. But surely not for loose figures? I think if I was buying anything cheaper I would rather take the risk and forget the tracking and just go with regular first class shipping.

i would think you can get loose figures through as a priority letter? not sure what price that would be, $20 at a guess?

$45 for a MOC I think is actually a fair price. Loosies I've been paying $12 usually asking for slowest, worst tracking as they're worth sweet FA

Oli - You can put figures in a flat rate envelope but it's not tracked. Just gets there faster.

You can always choose registered mail. It adds $12.95 to the price and confirms it did arrive. Mostly a seller tool.

I must live in the cheaper zone for USPS..becuase the last MOC are shipped in a box cost around $20. Not in a snazzy USPS priority box mind you.

Actually you're paying more. If it's not Priority Mail , I can ship a MOC (not with Acrylic Case) for $12-$14 .

Thanks...I thought I was losing my mind with this $45.00 figure...but what do you really get from the post office for twice the shipping?? Tracking stops the minute it lands on their soil and it really does not get there quicker as many have told me. I avoid priority like the plague.

Not really door to door tracking as the post office has told me and googling shows the same (Dropped at airport)

I'm not sure about this 100%, but I think the USPS is now tracking 1st class to select locations.

I just printed a UK label and it says it's a trackable number. Stay tuned...

So USPS Priority mail for a AFA graded MOC to Oli was a bit more than 43.00 USD and it is door to door trackable. Just an update. So I would say I was correct in stating that this was going to be in the ballpark of 45.00. Heads up for those that want a graded MOC shipped to them from the US. :D

In case anyone cares, I can confirm that first class does track to the door.

Here's a first class package shipped to the Netherlands. Shows door to door
