Biggest 'collecting' regret.

At my local Cheshunt fair many moons ago (pre AFA era) I was looking at a Kenner LP first issue near mint factory sealed X-Wing, Tie Fighter and Land Speeder priced at £150, £150 & £100. I took the X-Wing and Land Speeder but left the Tie Fighter because I already had a sealed one. My example was 2nd issue 'Imperial Tie Fighter' in much worse condition and the example at Cheshunt was allegedly owned by Gary Kurtz along with the X-Wing and Land Speeder :!:

Bugger :?

Many years ago now (I think about 2004/2005) I was bidding on a fantastic Palitoy 20 Back Luke X Wing that the seller had unwisely decided to end on a Tuesday lunchtime. The starting bid was 100 quid, and 15 minutes before the end I got a notification email at work that I had been outbid, just as I was pulled into a meeting. I thought to myself, "oh well, it will go for much higher anyway...". Went for 105 quid.

Only thing on my mind for the past 20 years or so is that once my mom took me to a toy shop, and they were selling out all the star wars toys they had left .... I remember seeing lots of stuff going at like -70/80% Crazy! They had the ewok village i always wanted (for almost nothing!), the falcon, other big boxes, lots of carded figs, .....for crazy prices! We just should have bought it all!!!

Even though i really tried, my mum didnt give in... To this day, i remind her of the deal she walked away from :D dreaming about how my childhood collection could be twice as large for close to nothing!
70% off....ffs..... Unbelievable!

Still haunts me...

There are several, the one I regret from a couple of years ago was a VCJ , could have got it for £200 , thought is was steep and passed

Yeah I can't compete with some of these either. Think my biggest regret is not sticking with collecting vintage over the past 20 years as an adult collector. There was a point where I collected everything that had a SW logo not just toys and it was silly. I did buy vintage but I didn't actively go looking for it, when I could have got some great stuff as it was long before ebay etc. I got pissed off with the modern line around 2003/4 as I couldn't keep track of the amount of stuff coming out and they started rehashing the same figs. If I had spent the same amount of cash through the years on vintage I'd have an awesome vintage collection. Oh well

20 years ago I remember thinking (about vintage carded figs) 'too expensive, I can't justify that. I'll just leave it' . The folly of youth!

I know most people aren't fans of the modern line on here but it had a positive in the early days. Being able to go into Woolies rummaging through figs looking for a new character was great and gave me the same feeling as a child in stores looking through the vintage line. I've still got a soft spot for the mid-90s line because of this. They were 3 quid or something at the time. It went hyper after that and the prequels well and truly killed it for me.

Rather than going for quantity and buying everything I should have focused my collecting, saved money for better pieces and went for quality. That thinking alone would have kept me on the vintage track.

What is it they say, hindsight's always 20:20? :D

This /\/\/\ word for word!

Wow some of you have had some gut wrenching items moved on, the sort you'd probably sell a kidney for to get back.

None so far in my limited collecting period of about 4 years. Biggest regret though is not taking control and looking after mine and Jr Chubbs childhood collection as it was given away (TO A BLOODY NURSERY!!!!!) by the evil step-mother  If only it had been kept in a more secure place and not in the garage where it was discovered by her and then given away

Yeah I had a 'family issue' with my childhood collection as well.

Ouch, I feel your pain. Glad to hear there is still some brotherly love :)

Mine is not buying an AFA 85 Palitoy Leia at Vectis about 2 years ago. The winner got it for £1,200 which looks like a bargain now, and I know if I'd gone higher I might still not have won it, but I regret not carrying on.

To make things worse in that auction I bought a Kenner Greedo that had a litho tear stuck down, and Toytoni Luke Bespin and GG's (before the drama broke out). Of the 4 things I bought, 3 were duff.

Great auction

As for selling regrets I have none cos I find it so difficult to sell anything ... which based on other peoples stories is probably a blessing in disguise.

When I met a woman and moved to London in 2003 I was convinced the right thing to do would be to downscale the collection. So I did. Big regret mainly due to selling a lot of my shop old stock finds and one piece in particular - a mint boxed ESB x-wing.

I regret buying my Toy Tonis! Then again I was about to pull the trigger on a pretty expensive one just as the scandal hit so it could have been worse....

I do regret not buying a trilogo Luke Stormie a couple of years ago on here and now they have soared in price. Also regret not getting a couple of Luke first shots that were't too expensive over the past couple of years but now would make me cry to buy.

Patience.....

I regret the period where I spent too much time on FB compared to forums (when I used to be only on forums) but since C7 I've been slowly corrected that.

Typical life of a collector...Regretting selling stuff or not buying stuff. Timing is either everything or nothing. In this game we've all been winners and losers at times I'm sure.

More than anything I regret not spending every single penny I had as a kid on Star Wars toys and keeping them all mint in box  All those boxes of 50p Jedi figures ...and I had the money!
