England looking the slightly better side so far.

Any one got any predictions?

Still not sure why they are playing it every other year. Bit of a shame when series like the one against NZ get reduced to two tests just so we can flog the Ashes to death, but sure. Since when did anyone in cricket give a **** about anything beyond money and what's best for the big handful of teams

im going for either 2-1 england or 2-2

haddin is awful for the A's

glad too see moen get runs and wickets, shame chris jordan isnt in the side. and i hope rashid get to turn hits wrists over this summer

Love the way you have waited to see how much of a shambles the first test becomes for England before posting this :)

Meant to post it the other day but clean forgot. I'm actually surprised no one had started a thread about it.

Looking good and feeling good. Just the start England needed to give them confidence for the series. If we go on and win this test I reckon we'll win the series 2-1 :)

England will win 5-0!

We can but dream.

Australia look a bit clueless at the moment, but I expect them to come back fighting.

I heard a stat the other day, in their last 15 tests in Engerlund since '05 (that should prob be England and Wales) Australia have won...............One!

That amazed me.

I suspect England's record in Australia isn't much better, but that stat is scary.

I think that's going to be 2 now, expect Australia to get 650 here. Then make as follow on, all from the toss of a coin.

Can someone explain to me WHY England prepared a pitch like that? I could bat on that against an attack made up of the best bowlers from history and not look even remotely bothered. Australia could literally bat all five days and not be bowled out. I've never seen a pitch offer less for the bowlers in my life. It's just dead. Ok, England want to try and nullify Mitchel Johnson's pace (he didn't look great in the first test but anyway), that pitch has just sapped any interest out of the game already. The only way any team will get a wicket on that is if the batsman gets himself out, like Warner did. Other than that it's a case of "do you want a double or triple century"?

Australia will get 500-600, depending on what Michael Clarke wants to do. I'd go for 600-650 and then gamble on bowling England out twice. Chances are they will all be shattered after 2-3 days in the field so the Aussies might manage it. Saying that I'd still say a draw is a massive odds on. It's gonna be a ****ing boring four days test cricket though. Maybe England are happy to play out four draws and win 1-0 but that's not gonna do much for Cricket as a spectator sport. Which is sad, especially after how good the NZ series was and how good the first test against the Aussies was.

There's karma for you. England get exactly what they deserve for preparing a pitch like that.

What a complete smambles that was England should never get bowled out for 103, loosing is one thing but Australia have the mental edge now. :(

103 on a flat track on dear....

id sack off ballance and lyth and bring in compton and rashid. ali is more than capable number 6 batter leave him be . we need a fairly decent spinner

another 'amazing' bit of trivia : "
It's the first time an Australian has passed 200 away from home since unlikely nightwatchman Jason Gillespie did it against Bangladesh in 2006."

Jesus! I remember that innings as well. Dizzy has a test match double tonne and Shane Warne never even managed a century

As for the result yesterday. Hard to know how to really judge it. I suspect had England won the toss and batted they would have been the ones to put up a massive score. Possibly not as high as the Aussies managed (fair play to Smith and Rodgers those were special knocks) but still after spending the guts of a day and a half chasing shadows in the outfield it's hard for any side to then get mentally switched on to bat. Saying that the Aussies bowlers definitely got a lot more out of the pitch/road than the England bowlers, AND England did shoot themselves in the foot. How many of their bats men just gave their wickets away? Stokesy WTF are you doing? Put your bat on the ground and run it in! So **** if the ball hits you, it's being thrown from 20 yards away, you're a full grown man and built like a brick **** house, STOP BEING A FRUIT!

My money is on no changes. One at absolute most.
I haven't been convinced by Lythe or Ballance, but both are young and probably need time to find their way in Test cricket. Although an Ashes series is not the ideal time to be struggling, especially as badly as Gary Ballance is! Ian Bell will get at least another Test before he gets "rested", it's his ground and he is a quality player on his day so he has probably earned it.
As far as replacements go, Rashid did look good in he T20's and he's definitely next off the rank of spinners. Though Ali hasn't done anything to warrant being dropped so you're probably looking at Rashid coming in and Ali moving up the order. Too many changes of role is never a good thing.
Can't see Compton getting a call at all. He's marginally ahead of KP but both are in the "no thanks" pile.
Maybe Johnny Bairstow could come in, though he doesn't solve the opener/number 3 issue so you are moving Bell or Root up. Again too many changes is never good.

It's just one game. This time last week England were brilliant, now they are ****. Knee jerk reactions and media sensationalism don't help.

I stand by my comment about that pitch though. Had England actually supplied a pitch rather than a road the end result would most likely have been different. FFS they could hardly have lost by any more than they did.

Just seen Michael Clarke said the toss played no part in the win! Yeah, good one Michael!

The game was decided by the ****ing toss. Take nothing away from Australia, the way they played meant it was a right royal hiding rather than a comfortable win, but as soon as they won the toss the worst they were getting was a draw and that wold have required them to have a stinker and England to have a blinder.

Any predictions for 4th test? I'm going for Australia win by 100 runs or more, or by an innings. :? Think no Anderson is a big loss. Hope it rains for next 5 days.

So far the team with the momentum/form has lost every time, so Australia to win would continue that sequence.

Agreed that Anderson is a big loss. There are a few issues in that Aussie batting line up as well, and their bowling is very hit and miss. Some seriously unplayable deliveries (the 2 wickets Johnson got in 3 ball in the last test) but also an inability to slow/stop England scoring. It'll hopefully be an interesting game. I'm praying it's not another pitch like Lords and we get a borefest.
