PL 2015-16 Chat

You're taking it too seriously mate. Man U, Chelsea, City..... you name it the flags are out. Anything to get one over and have 5 mins glory. Football is not important, just a game.

Roll on the Euros.

I don't really care who finishes above Man Utd, unless we finish second and Liverpool finish first!

I can see it's a tough one for Spurs supporters to take but from the moment the league was won won by Leicester does it really matter? As far as I no Arsenal aren't getting a trophy for finishing above Spurs and the fact Arsenal are content with finishing second says it all.

Trust me, it's not "banter" when you're on the receiving end of it for 20 years. I deleted about a dozen bell ends on Facebook this afternoon who thought it was hilarious to tag me in their Arsenal memes.

Edd I get it, I really do, 10+ years sat in Paxton and then shelf-side to see very little in the way of glory apart from the glimmer of hope and many dashed disapointments along the way, seeing us develop and create some of the worlds better players and sell them on to be a business rather than a club riddled with debt waiting for one owner or bank to pull the plug before everything collapses. I've travelled away to almost all top flight and many more of the lower league grounds as well as abroad (Yes Spurs do get to go on holiday more often than people think...) I've heard all the jibes, the vile behaviour, the so called banter, but hey, football and intelligence rarely go together. I've been to matches and ended up in situations, that as an grown up with kids, I look back on with relief that I got out alive, run ins with the police, I've seen it all, good bad and at times ugly.

I have though come to learn that finishing above us is only a competition in one set of supporters minds and to be fair if that makes them happy wow... let them have their moment. True Spurs supporters that go week in week out really don't care, its a blip on the chart at best, Soccer Staurday watchers maybe, but true supporters, nope, its not really on their radar, most hate Chelsea and in a smaller way West Ham much more for a start, most don't even acknowledge Arsenal as a North London team. It's a very one-sided rivalry in more ways than who ends up on top.

I have time in my life for one team and ond one team only. Tottenham Hotspur. I can't even spare devotion for a national team or the team in the town I live in, but some other 'fans' seem to spend forever looking at their 'rivals' as much as their own teams.. how do they find the time?

Is it something to do with the differnece in being a fan (not a fanatic) as opposedto being a supporter, no idea, but I'm proud of finishing third and really don't give a tiny rats arse that we gave away second.. first place was long lost and although it was a fairytale dream, it was all that really counted for the past 3-4 weeks.

Anyway, it's not worth getting upset with the guys on here (or Facebook), be the bigger man and rise above it. Champions league awaits us, who cares what everyone else is doing or where they finished.

Ian Wright in The Sun:

Arsenal mickey-takers targeting Tottenham make Gunners look like a Mickey Mouse club and Tottenham will have the last laugh according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

THE mickey-taking suffered by Tottenham fans right now will hurt.
Sunday's 5-1 defeat away at Newcastle was the worst possible way to end the season.

However the abuse they are getting from Arsenal and Chelsea fans is actually a compliment and shows just what they have achieved.

They have made the supporters of their biggest London rivals behave like fans of small-time clubs.

The sad thing is what Gunners fans are doing — teasing Spurs that Arsenal came second and achieved more — is what Spurs used to do to us when I was at Highbury.

The way Chelsea and Arsenal fans are celebrating Spurs not winning the league signifies the change in Tottenham.

It's like the Ryder Cup. America used to hammer us all the time. Then in 1983 Seve Ballesteros was asked back, they beat us by a point and everyone was disappointed.

But Seve said: "They always beat us but look at how happy they are to beat us this time. We are emerging now."

That's how Tottenham should look at it. Chelsea and Arsenal, two teams that are supposed to be in a different stratosphere, are now bricking it because Tottenham are coming.

Those Arsenal fans who think their club only started with the Emirates are always having a go at ex-footballers like me who care about the club.

But when you know what the standards are, finishing second — and with a worse points tally than last season — is disappointing.

Those Arsenal fans should be thinking about what could have been, not what is.

Arsenal stopped playing after Christmas. When Arsene Wenger says they were in a false position midway through the season because of the games they had to come, it's just another excuse for a team that should have done a lot better.

Arsenal had an opportunity and they missed it. Leicester had an opportunity and they took it.

Tottenham had an opportunity and they ran out of steam in the last four games.

Spurs' players will be disappointed about that tepid ending but they have had a fantastic season and must take all the positives they can.

Manchester City out-scored them but only just. And they had the best defensive record in the league.

Young players like Dele Alli and Eric Dier emerged and Harry Kane confirmed he is the real deal.

They will all have learned a lot from this season and the fact everyone is so happy that Tottenham did not win the league just shows they are in the ascendancy.

Spurs will need to be active over the summer and I am sure they will.

They must make sure the back-up guys in the squad are better because Tottenham's bench is not as strong as that of other teams.

But we're talking about two or three players maximum to come in.

If you're a player looking for that glamour move to a Premier League club in London, then it's an interesting situation.

With Chelsea, you're thinking, 'They have a new manager, it's transition time, there is a lot that has to happen there'.

With Arsenal, you think, 'They and their manager are under a lot of pressure. They've not really won anything apart from the FA Cup in the last ten or 12 years. Which player is going to help me get Arsenal over the line?'.

Then you look at Tottenham: Emerging, young team, new stadium on the way, good manager.

If Tottenham can match the wages of an Arsenal or a Chelsea, they are a very attractive proposition.

We will see who is laughing at the end of next season.

Gutted for Spurs fans. That Chelsea equaliser really did cause their season to implode. 2 points from your last four games is piss poor, but if you'd been offered third at the start of the season you'd have jumped at it.
I can kinda sympathise with Ed. Most of my mates are Utd fans and for 25 years all I've heard is them gloating after yet another title all whilst Liverpool finish miles off the pace. I can only imagine how gutting it must be to think after 20 years you're going to get on up on your nearest rival, only to have it snatched away at the last minute. It's worse for Spurs fans cos Liverpool have finished above Utd a few times in those years and have won a CL as well. Spurs don't have that.
As a few of the others have said though, the fact Arsenal fans are goating so much this year is because they know they got lucky in finishing above Spurs and that Spurs are a team on the up.

To be honest, Arsenal have had a dreadful season. They will NEVER get a clearer run at a title. All the traditional teams were varying degrees of **** and or a shambles. Yet Arsenal still never looked like winning it. Top at Xmas is nothing. Top in late March or April is being in contention. No doubt Wenger will look at Giroud's last day hattrick and continue to delude himself that Giroud is top class striker. He's not. He's a bloody good back up or number 3 striker, but he's just not good enough for a team with (supposedly) serious title ambitions. Ditto Walcott. That Arsenal squad needs a massive overhaul, and Wenger is too blind/stubborn to see it.
Spurs on the other hand have a great young squad. They need a decent back up striker and a bit more depth, but I know what squad I'd rather have.

I saw that. I have to admit i've no idea who he is. Though it's very un-Arsenal, if the fee is correct. Is Wenger actually going to spend money!? Surely not.

Although in true Wenger style, it's not the holding midfielder, striker or solid CB they need. It's an attacking midfielder. To add to Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshire, Iwobi, Cazorla, Walcott and the Ox.

With a very decent striker all out attack might work with all our options however we are still lacking that very decent striker

I'd almost managed to block him from my mind, until I saw an article saying he was coming back. For some unknown reason AC don't wanna keep him!

I still (probably deludedly) hope Arsene throws caution to the wind, breaks with tradition and dares to Zlatan but I seriously doubt it, he seems to be a shoe in for Utd

I've never been a fan of Zlatan. I mean as a footballer, I suspect the arrogant persona is partly a media construct. He's by no means a bad player, but I just don't think he's as good as some people make him out to be. He's one of those players who on a highlights reel would look superb, but if you watch him week in week out, I suspect you'd be frustrated with his contributions. He strikes me as someone with bucket loads of talent but an attitude that sucks. Not sure how that would work in a Mourinho team where it's all about the team and there's virtually no indulgence of the individual. I can't see Mourinho accepting Zlatan standing about scratching his ass as the other team play it out from the back. Add to that the fact the PL is the most physical and probably fastest paced league in the world and Zlatan is 34....

I know what you're saying about his age and the pace of the league I just feel we need to do something different, he also strikes me as being someone that might ruffle a few feathers in the dressing room and maybe provoke a reaction on the pitch, he is a proven winner, albeit mainly in teams expected to win, but Arsenal are seriously lacking that winning mentality. You may also be right about JM not wanting him.

Benitez has a break clause if they go down.
Let's see, managing Real Madrid this time last year to managing Newcastle Utd in the Championship away to Burton Albion...........Hmmm. I wonder what he'll do!? Lol.

He is the best thing to happen to them in a year or 3, but he's not daft enough to want to manage in the Championship. He'll have plenty of offers from all over Europe. Bigger clubs, in better leagues, with European football and more money (to spend and to pay him). The guy's won the CL and La Liga (twice), I don't see him being mad keen to add the English Championship to that CV.

Newcastle are a shambles and deserved to go down. I feel sorry for the fans, cos that club is being run by morons. Ashley can either get his head out of his ass, or he can continue to bounce between the lower reaches of PL and Championship. I'm a cynical bastard so I know what my money is on.

As for Norwich, not a huge amount of sympathy. They came back up with the same bunch of players who got them relegated two years ago and what do you know, a bunch of guys who weren't good enough two years ago, ehh, aren't good enough now! What are the odds!?
TBF they didn't spend silly money and that team/squad is a very good Championship squad so they should be in the mix for promotion next year. Just PLEASE don't be ****ing stupid and think Cameron Jerome is a PL striker! Susan Boyle is closer to being a Playboy Bunny.

Agree with you on the Jerome comment....thing is he'll probably bang 15+ goals in next season for us......but he didn't seem to give a **** in the PL most games. Just worried we are gong to lose players like Brady, Redmond, Olsson, Ruddy, Hoolahan to PL/Champ teams in the off season

Benitez stays at Newcastle!?

I have a horrible feeling that's gonna end badly. I suspect it'll either be **** or bust. Win the league by 15pts or gone by January. The Championship is a funny old league, a lot of very similar standard sides in it and a **** load of games. I worry that Rafa doesn't know what he's letting himself in for. Added to the turnover of players they will have. It could be messy.

As for Cameron Jerome, he's a solid but unspectacular Championship striker. No more. That's his level. He's not good enough for the PL and any club relying in him to score enough to keep them up is going down.

I can definitely understand why he's stayed with Newcastle. Assuming after his years as a top flight manager money is no longer his main concern, it's a good challenge, a massive club, and he'll be a hero if he gets them back up again (which I think is pretty likely.)

Again with money out of the equation, surely it would be more rewarding to manage a massive club in the championship than a small **** club in the PL (eg Bournemouth or Warford.) It can't be any fun managing one of those yo-yo clubs.
