Hey fellas,

How many countries produced their own line of 12 backs?

These are the one's I know of:

Kenner : USA

Kenner : Canada

Palitoy : UK

Toltoys : Australia

Meccano : France

Harbert : Italy

Takara : Japan

Clipper : Belgium ( not sure if they produced clipper 12 backs )

Not sure about the accuracy of the one's I've listed but any info would be great.

Also has anyone ever managed to put together a full set of Kenner, Palitoy, Harbert, Toltoys and Meccano all at once? Sort of like the Grand Slam of 12 backs.

Cheers Ryan

There are no Mexican or Spanish 12bks.
Canada did indeed have their own 12bks, 2 different sets of them in fact. One set with the GDE logo, and one with just a small line of bilingual text in the corners.

edit...here are 2 pics.
First is a Canadian Luke 12bk with the more common card:

Next up is a Vader on the rarer GDE cardback:

I unfortunately no longer own either of these pieces, but I've kept pics of every item that used to be in my licensed collection. Hope the pics help.

Cheers

Hey Joe,

Thanks mate, any info would be appreciated. Not that I'm trying to put together a set, just purely for interest sake.

So Canada's brand is GDE then, cool.

Did all the main brands release a full set of 12 characters?

The GDE logo is on the front of one set, but the brand for both sets is still Kenner. GDE(Star Wars in French) was only to placate Canadas laws for bilingual packaging.

Takara did NOT release all 12 characters. There is no Takara DSC or Jawa, the other 10 do exist. Tusken is very difficult to find, but it's out there.

Clipper did release 12 backs:

"Palitoy, Harbert, Toltoys and Meccano" that is one hell of a grandslam- I doubt very much anyone has come close.

You can see all the cardbacks I have to date on here:-

One of my collecting to goals is to collect full sets of these in cardback form. As mentioned, some of the characters were never released or are very rare.

The Clipper 12 backs made an unforgettable impression when I first saw them at a local dutch warehouse when I was seven years old.

Clipper BeNeLux: Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg.

I would like to know whether these cards were also sold in Belgium and Luxemburg. I would think so.

BTW: General Mills made it only to the stage of 12 backs prototypes (for the German market). Those Krieg der Sterne cards look great!

In addition to Joe's answer:

Takara only produced Stromtrooper, Vader And C-3PO on its own. Only the ones with different mold are produced there.

All others were imported and only stickered as far as I know.

You are correct Wolff, sorry for not elaborating with that information before. Also Clipper made all 12, 12backs. I at one time owned 7 carded and 4 of the other 5 as cardbacks, I've seen a pic of the one I didn't have(Jawa), they all do or at least did exist.

Cheers
