Just to clarify Frank, are we talking about people PM ing sellers in the sales thread or people Pm ing people who are asking for a valuation of their item? It seems like two different things to me and I just want to make sure I'm on the same page as everyone.

One slightly confused Ian!

Was on about actual sale, but a hugely valid point you have raised as this is even more relevant to valuation post where this also frequently seems to happen, the thread below is a perfect example as it happened just the other day -

Typical one post wonder/newbie scenario. I've seen it happen so often here. I was annoyed at the guy for not even acknowledging my interest in the Solo. I helped him as much as I could and then it was 'thanks for the advice, sold them all' which is bad manners in my book.

But sales between more regular memebers is pretty hassle free.

Hope everyone is ok with the poll, I just put it up to gauge what the consensus is on this subject as it's just the way I have always conducted my business online, I was in no way saying one way is right & one way is wrong, so sorry if I have upset the apple cart & seeing some of the replies & can as I have said see some of the reasoning from the other side of the fence & think some points are valid whilst others not so, but hey we all have a different way of doing things we are used to & feel is the way, be a boring old world if we were all the same, if nothing else it's been quite an informative debate on everyone's views on the subject so a post worth doing as it has got everyone pretty passionate about how they feel which has to be a good thing.

It's a fair point to raise Frank, an open discussion about a topic that almost everyone here has to deal with at some point.

I like to think most of us have a degree of common sense and morals when it comes to selling (most of us!) so I think the system that is in place now works very well indeed. I don't want to see this place become like some of these FB groups with power tripping admins introducing dickhead rules that make buying and selling an absolute pain.

Passion about the hobby is always a good thing, and the thread IMO is a poll, exactly that, to gauge opinions on what people think.
It is polls like this that allow you to see what people think, process the information, and if you feel the need, tweak the way you do things yourself to become more in line with protocols and the way you do things, especially if your the type of person like me that can inadvertently put your foot in it, with no intention of doing so

Right as for the other subject which was IMO wrongly drawn to the public eye on here by Jason, this will be my final response on the matter as Edd is totally right it should have IMO been a matter for private message not public banter.

Jason, I looked into this deeply as I regard myself as open & honest & had no memory of ever doing the dirty on any of the members here, quite an easy memory search really as it's something I NEVER do PERIOD! as I have morals IMO & a good sales ethic regardless of what you or anyone else has cooked up in their head.

This is the meccano cardback sale in question which I clearly got backdoored on, which is where you have your wires crossed & an open apology would be nice considering you are trying to drag my name through the mud -

As for the other matter you decided to throw in as ammo (the multi pack I bought) it was "traded" in the baggie group I run despite Iain's best efforts to throw a spanner in the works for me on it, I just checked members on the group & you are not on there, so it's clear where your information came from (one sided information may I add).

I as said have nothing to hide in the way I do my business in sales or trades & I shall endeavor to keep comporting my business in a fair & impartial manor in the future the way I always have.

BTW EDITED due to spelling errors

Totally agree about now wanting to bog the forum down with excessive rules & regulations, the FB group I run is much the same only a handful of rules to keep the group member safe when trading on line.

This is pretty much the only thing I had concerns about on the forum, "mostly" down to new member sales & valuation posts (but not always), but seeing everyone's thoughts on the matter I can see it is most likely best left as it is, it's posts like that valuation one the other day that got me thinking I should put up a poll to see others thoughts on the matter, glad I did as I have certainly answered many questions with it.

"A comedy of errors"

definition: in which the major part of the humour comes from slapstick and mistaken identity.

We've had the mistaken identity between Mr Harbert and Mr Meccano, and we've also had the slapstick with Jason left with egg on face... :D

That Meccano thread is from 2013. Can't see the rest of our conversation from the 2015 PM. I'd asked how the deal had gone on the card I stepped aside for you had gone after you had asked me a question about Meccano cardback values. You replied with what I posted. Maybe you were talking about a different deal.

And on this I'm 100% with you, Frank. It massively pisses me off when, having helped out with a valuation and (sometimes) made an open declaration of interest on the thread some sneaky git doesn't add a valuation and PMs them with an offer. Really winds me up. And it's always those that don't post on the thread that seem to end up with the items, too. Mark's experience on that thread is the perfect example of this. That said, not really sure what can be done about it. Rules suck arse. Perhaps every time someone posts a new thread in the valuation section there should be a text inserted that can't be deleted that goes along the lines of "All replies and expressions of interest to be on this thread. No expression of interest without putting a valuation up. PMing is for sneaky throbbers only". :D I guess then you run the risk of running an auction....

**** it. Let them do what they want. S'only toys. Just wish I knew who they were so I could avoid dealing with them.

I'll probably regret getting involved... but since Frank said he didn't want to make another post on the subject I will sum up.

In 2013 there was a thread about a Meccano PD cardback. Frank was in for this but he didn't get the item.

In 2015 there was a thread about a Harbert PD cardback. Frank did get this one.

Jason, you have confused the two (easily done) especially since as you say most of your PMs from that time have been deleted.

So I think what Jason is trying to say is sorry, he got his wires crossed, Frank is (like Tom Selleck and Billy Joel) an innocent man.

There's no way Tom Selleck is an innocent man with a tache like that. That's a proper porn star tache. Nothing innocent there.

In reference to the original topic voted on, I think we should stay with the PM system.

I think sellers should be free to sell to whomever they please and make their own decisons on how they chose to prioritise those pm's.

Personally I work on a "first come, first served" basis, though if two PM's arrive virtually together, a person I have had good experiences
with before could probably jump the queue on a figure to fill their order if they are asking for mulitple items in one go.

IMO I think that is a fair and honest way to deal.

I asked frank how the deal I stepped aside for him on (harbert) had gone and Frank replied saying what I posted earlier. I took that to mean the harbert deal had fallen through. Not sure how I was the one confused. Again, those messages have all been delete now so it's very he said she said.

Perhaps he's big enough to say it himself.

Not sorry, led to believe Frank's deal had fallen through by PM from Frank I received. Found out from seller deal had actually happened.
