WTF has happened on eBay

I've noticed that some items that are in my watchlist(active auctions and BIN auctions) doesn't appear in the sellers sales lists,
the link to the items from my ebay work, but if you go to the sellers profile and check items for sale they're not there...
Am I doing something wrong or does this happen to you guys too?

I spoke to someone at ebay on the phone about this earlier & they have no plans to change it back :x & that I should "QUOTE" see how it goes for a while "END QUOTE" - in other words **** right off we don't give a rats ass, but I asked him to log my complaint & also said that it has been on all the star wars forums world wide, not that it helped, so I asked for an address for written complaints & he emailed me the above address.

I think if we want out specific categories back the only way to make that happen is to put a LOT of pressure on ebay to do so & the only way we have of doing that is to write & email then repeatedly & not just us vintage guys, I think if we want action we will have to look at the big picture & get on to other toy collecting sites & get everyone behind this not just vintage SW, as its the numbers that count in ebays books not the small seller & certainly not the individual, so I suggest we get a generic letter written up not just a SW related one & post it & get EVERYONE we know to both email it to them & to print it down & send it in to them, either that or we can all just forget about using ebay for buying & selling again period.

Thoughts?

I have posted this on Joe's thread also

It literally beggars belief that they didn't run this past... you know... an ACTION FIGURE collector. I'd love to meet the half wit that 'decided' this was a good idea. It's like merging cars and bicycles.

I would seriously recommend that anybody who is currently running an auction with a low start price pulls it now, it is going to take weeks/months for people to get over this confusion and start finding stuff again. I will only be doing BIN auctions for a while now.

That is exactly what I was thinking - it would be daft to list vintage items now as there is no way that people will be able to search for them

This is absolute suicide for the vintage market on Ebay - and needs to be sorted urgently

On the plus side, I bet there will be some bargains to be had! (as has already been said)

I guess it only effects people who search one catregory at a time then? I always just do a blanket search of all the catergories, and then weed through it.
Thinking people aren't going to "find your auctions" now, is dafter than the changes they have made.

Ok, I'll bite - why is it daft to expect that people are going to struggle to find auctions now that the vintage category has gone ?

Well, I for one NEVER just searched the "vintage catergory". I always search "all catergories", and weed through it.
Do you think I am the only one who does that?
And you didn't say "struggle to find them", you said "no way to be able to search for them". Which is wrong. You can still search "title and descriptions", cant you?

On a side note.

I bet you're all wishing Liam was allowed to post live auction links now!

Fair, if not pedantic point.

However, I think it will be a lot harder - and a lot more hassle for buyers to find vintage items without a vintage category

For those on here, most with have an idea on what they are searching for. However a lot of new collectors will have been a lot more reliant on going through the vintage category

It's not being pedantic at all. You wanted a reason, I thought I gave you a pretty good one. It's hardly splitting hairs is it?

Regardless! There is a whole group of people saying eBay for vintage, is now doomed...because of a few catergory changes. Which, IMO, is the biggest load of cods whallop I've heard lately.
You guys must hate it when your favourite supermarket changes where they put the wheaties. Having to look in a different isle, must be a killer.

I'll add my 10p worth - why try to fix what wasn't broken? It's a bit like when an inventor goes on Dragons Den with a pitch for an invention that claims to solve an issue that doesn't exist.

For me buying wise it's not to much of an issue as I do most of buying off there, but it has cleared everything out of my watch list which could be counterproductive if I was intending to buy.

My guess is the bods who make these kind of decisions there are the kind of people who think it would be a good idea to put Gary Glitter in charge of a crèche

Your theory is great Josh if you only search for specific things. What about those of us who like to browse and see what is available for sale? Search is useless for that. If you took 20 random auctions from the vintage category, I bet the majority would have different words in the titles. Things like MOC, carded, Star Wars, vintage, are often missed from auction titles and descriptions, and would therefore not show up in search results.

I agree, I had around 5 specific searches but I also had 4 or 5 general searches... eg Figures Original Carded, Bulk Lots, Figures Loose...

If these individual categories have been merged into one then it makes it a lot more difficult if you are "weeding" through. Insted of 8 pages @100 per page I now have 70 pages @ 100 per page... Plus there's so much modern stuff its untrue!!

I realise they have got a Kenner and Palitoy seperation but this would be for collectors and people whoknow their stuff...Not any bargains in there!

Given that you have enough time and can keep on top of the newly listed items then yes, you can probablyget some real gems, but who has the time it needs?

Bram

Yeah I remember when they first introduced the original carded category in about 2005, there were never more than 300 or so items in there, and the majority were relevant. Sure I did searches too in categories like science fiction, like you say it would be lazy to totally depends on categories. But surely sifting through 300 relevant items is far better than wading through 60,000 mostly irrelevant items!?

On another subject, I'd be interested to know what our American members think. Am I right in thinking you guys have never had a carded category? It's just split into the 3 films.

I was actually considering sticking some stuff on Ebay last week, TF I was too lazy and didn't bother!

Yep this really, searching for a character for example in the main search box is of course going to bring up what you want and cut out the guff but there are lots of us that don't search for specific figures or even specific types of collectibles, I liked to search the basic Vintage sections for a variety of things, especially MOC because I have an interest in all MOC not just Trilogos. Before now everything was all lumped in and the sections were so easy to use - loose, vehicles/playsets, carded etc - easy peasy.

If you search the main ebay section for "vintage MOC" or even "Vintage carded" you not only get a bunch of crap and modern but you are missing the auctions that DON'T have "Vintage" in the title, plenty of people just put - Star Wars Carded ROTJ Vader for example. Sure you can put those same searches in the new section where all the toys are but you still encounter the same problem more or less.

As Todd said - this resembles ebay back when it was a lucky dip finding Vintage, you typed in what you wanted and hoped for the best, they then changed that to a very easy to use section for Vintage Star Wars and now they have removed it - why are we going backwards when it worked just fine before?

You really seem to be in the minority in understanding why this is a pain in the ass Josh even though you have had it explained to you a few times, there was only one guy on RS that kinda agreed with you in the thread over there but then changed his mind as he was shown how hard it is to find stuff at the moment so again that just leaves you saying everyone else is wrong and whining...if there was no problem there wouldn't be all these threads popping up!
