Most probably yes.

TBH I was all set to say "I'm not sure" at first but then I thought back to my late teens early 20's and actually I collected all kinds of crap! One of my first "things" were Van Damme movies (all on VHS) then it was mostly music related: CD's, Vinyl, autographs, posters etc and then odd things like trainers that I'd never even wear (sometimes I bought them in sizes that didn't even fit me!!) :? Had a small comic collection as well..

I've collected other toy lines (Super powers, Real Ghostbusters, Thundercats etc) but any toy collecting I've done all stemmed from a love for Star Wars toys which is why I almost said I wasn't sure.

I'm tempted by posters too..and some of the gentle giant stuff..oh who am I kidding I'm a ****ing magpie

Anyone else wondering if they made DT paperclips?

Yes. I'd probably collect GN'R memorabilia or some other rock band. I own 1000s of books so I always collect something

I'm pretty certain I would collect other stuff.
As with a lot of other people on here, when I look back, I have always collected things... Bottle caps, books, cds, vinyl records, pin badges... The list goes on, but Star Wars is what has stuck with me since a really young age and is 1, of 2, main collecting concerns of mine.

Yes good question.
I'm a hoarder of nostalgia too so would have focused on something else I had from my childhood. Micronauts, Space Lego, Matchbox cars, Action Man, Commando Comics and Britians soldiers are my main side collections but I'm always coming across other toy lines I forgot about. For instance, I saw an auction for 'Action Jacks' the other day. I'd never heard of them but as soon as I seen the picture on the cards I had a massive bout of nostalgia. They were figures I had just before Star Wars and I completely forgot all about them.

Well I think I got the collecting bug from the old man :!: He used to do house clearances with his friend who had his own business and was always bringing home loads of different pieces of furniture and many different old curiosities 8) Naturally as a kid I was fascinated and Dad used to let me keep one or two bits :D

I used to collect many things as a kid from sticker album cards to mini cap gun and other novelty key rings. I don't know if I would have got into collecting anything other than SW so heavily and seriously though?

I have a v small collection of MOC Go-bots which I love too but r so lovely and cheap to get compared to SW  Saying that they have significantly gone up in value over the last few years :!:

Would have collected vintage HE-MAN instead for sure, still reelling from selling all my childehood stuff about 10 years ago. Evan sold my boxed Castle Grayskull. :( Although I think it's good that I decided to let go of part of my childehood I still really wont a boxed HE-MAN and Skeletor with their battle cats.

After Star wars I collected transformers for a few years.....but....I agreed for my Dad to throw them all out, why oh why did I agree to that? To be fair I probably would of sold them to fund star wars but oh well.

In the 90's and 00's I collected Dr Who DVD's but completed the set last year. This was one reason why I turned back to Star Wars over 30 years later. So yes I guess I have a collecting itch too, but only one theme at a time.

At some point I fully expect to collect some or all of the below - some id be getting into and some I'm already somewhat Collecting:

Video games
Vintage bang & olufsen equipment
80s movie posters
Old London maps
WW2 items
Apollo and Gemini space stuff
Pens

This is why I'll never be rich haha

I collect SW vintage, love the look, touch and smell of the figures and the smile it brings to my face when I look through what I have, and it's long term for me

but I also collect with my son, the things he remembers having growing up, SW vintage (due to me introducing him at an early age to ROTJ on VHS rental). THUNDERCATS, TMNT, MOTU, A Team, boxed games systems (master system, N64 etc and games).
If I didn't collect SW I would collect something, as its a connection to the past, of times of innocence, and growing up, gives you a feel good factor, nostalgia and memories of simpler times.

There is a lot of interesting stuff out there on the psychological reasoning behind collecting, even to the extent there is a light side and a dark side!

Jedi...
Connection to the past, enjoyment in the search, comradery of like minded collectors

Sith...

To own object/s of desire, commercial gain ( flipping), addiction, acceptance, hoarding.

My collecting is like all collectors there's a little light and dark in us all! But in the main it's the long term passion for something positive that makes me feel good that I can share with my lad ( father son thing) and share with, for example, SWFUKers again a feel good factor.

I grew up with collecting around me.

My Father was a teacher by day and radio DJ (BBC Radio WM, BBC Radio Stoke, BBC Radio Shropshire, Signal Radio), and record collector by night/weekend. He essentially brought the concept of record fairs to the UK (starting in the south East of England and moving up to the Midlands) he also wrote, printed and distributed (worldwide) the fanzine Hot Buttered Soul, which was at the time considered the seminal fanzine for anyone with an interest in northern soul. He was lucky enough (as was I as either a baby or unborn child!) lucky enough to meet and interview Diana Ross, Jimi Hendrix amongst others and became friends with Jimmi Page. All of this was backed up with of course a collecting room, a collecting room that was the size of an average living room with all walls shelved (bar one with a desk and stereo) floor to ceiling, filled with vinyl... millions of the things.

So, for me, hoarding and collecting all you can on a theme of choice is something that has been second-nature.

My own collecting started with music, moved onto Star Wars in the early 90's inspired by a friend at Uni and picked up in big chunks at Bootfairs and my American Adventure haul. I got more into football in my mid to late twenties and I transitioned to shirt collecting, completing a set of every replica Spurs shirt from the 80/81 season onwards as well as a host of player worn shirts and training gear as well as a ton of autographed memorabilia and even a couple of un-produced same shirts. That has now all been boxed up and stored (I probably should sell it) as I've given all available space over to the Star Wars collection that (in part thanks to this forum) has all come back out of the loft and is my pride and joy.

I do collect some other bits and pieces from the same era, I have a Raleigh Extra Burner, a number of MB games, Britains, matchbox and consoles and games all things I had in my youth.

My brother has clearly got the same genes and has a ridiculous Action Force collection (he's about 4 years younger, so again its his childhood), he only needs something like 4/5 MOCs to have a full set of every MOC or vehicle (Series 1-3) in each language variant!!! Puts my efforts to shame

Yes I think I would be, collecting and surrounding myself with stuff makes me happy. I love Vintage Star Wars, I have a childhood connection with it. Just like I do Vintage Action Man, Action Force, electronic games, 8 bit computers etc etc.
I owned them as a kid so owning them now makes me fondly remember my childhood, I am sure most of us are the same.
I have always bought the odd vintage Star Wars item but it was Action Man that was my main collecting focus, however about a year ago I decided Star Wars was what I wanted to collect.
I am in it for the long run, I hope by joining this forum I can buy, trade and maybe even become friends with some of you. I am in my mid forties now, have two wonderful young children a wife and mortgage.
I watch my home town club on a Saturday (Chesterfield) go out for a beer or ten with my mates, I'm just an average working guy but I do need to collect something. I always have, I am by no means a high end collector I simply cannot afford to spend 2k on a rare sought after Star Wars item.
However I am always on the lookout for stuff be it a toy fair, carboot, charity shop or any other opportunity that arises, that is part of collecting , the hunt.
If I could afford anything I wanted I wouldn't enjoy it as much, watching my very modest collection grow makes me very happy indeed.
Also now being able to share my collection and see other peoples via this forum also makes me very happy, I only wish I had followed my heart years ago. I have always known Vintage Star Wars should have been my main focus collecting wise, sadly now it seems I am priced out of many items I would love to own.
Some people collect for financial gain, Which is fair enough I collect for the shear pleasure it brings me.
I cannot bring back the first time I opened a vintage Star Wars figure, it was 1980 I was ten an At At Driver he cost me £1.59, I remember it like it was yesterday. A week later my father walked in with seven more for me
I cannot bring those times back but I can certainly try, would I be collecting if it wasn't for Star Wars, definitely yes but would I be as happy I seriously doubt it.

I think I have the collecting bug, so chances are if it wasn't star wars, it would have been something.

That said, before Star Wars collecting began in earnest, I used to collect 1:72 scale toy soldiers.

Then moved on to Warhammer 40k and tended to just collect, paint and build armies, rather than focus on playing the game.

But I don't think I would have gone full out on anything like I have with Star Wars. 8)

Do you still display them in your basement? I know you were thinking of boxing them up, just wondered if they were still no display

Without doubt and it would be Vinyl, I use to have a huge collection which I sold off but have recently been buying job lots of vinyl again. If it wasn't Star Wars it would have been He-Man as it was a major part of my childhood.

Doubt if I'd collect anything else. Collect Action Force as well, but it was Star Wars that really triggered that. I'm sure I would've kept my childhood AF and Inpro dinosaurs, but not sure I would've added to the collections.

If anything, it would be records probably.

I can't believe how much vinyl junkies we have.
I collect vinyl too (forgot to mention that in my previous reply). Got over a 1000 mostly 60's and 70's early pressings.
I've been selling duplicates on ebay recently but it's very time consuming cos I playgrade.
Now I've bought a VHS player and collecting videos again crazy days :p
Anything I see I seen to collect, I remember when I was about 6 I collected rocks and pebbles I hope I don't get a bout of nostalgia to want to do that again.

I think people are either collectors or not, I definitely am. As a kid I collected all sorts at different times - fossils, cacti, feathers, coins, airfix planes amongst other things and later on - warhammer, cameras, records etc. It's some peoples mentality and people collect anything and everything. My sisters ex husbands dad had hundreds and hundreds of gravy boats hanging off the ceiling..! I know a guy with a massive collection of old unused skateboards. Star Wars is my main collecting but I have other little micro collections. I collect goggles/glasses, lighters, cameras, dvd's and there's plenty of other things I would like to collect like replica gun and sword props. I don't think anything would ever be as satisfying as Star Wars but if I like a type of object I can easily have the urge to have several of them.
