World Cup 2018 Thread

Germany looked pretty fragile at the back today, Mexico were unlucky not to score two or three. Some great games so far, not the usual boring 0-0 draws.

Totally agree, most have been open and flowing games, I hope it continues.
Really enjoyed the Germany/Mexico game this afternoon.

I only saw the last 20 mins of th Germany game but they looked poor.

Brazil look good. The Swiss set up shop.

This game should be over. Tunisia r woefully bad. They are Saudi Arabia bad. If England cud the ****ing ball in the back of the net it would be 5-1.
****ing Jason Lee would be more use at finishing than half the boys out there.

England are lacking a world class performer who can create something from nothing. Having said that they should of scored at least 3 chances they had first half. Oh they just scored...!

Aye, Sterling was as bad as I have seen in and England shirt for a good while. He just lost it every time and as for that sitter he missed in the first half. My nephew could have tucked that away and he's 3. Yeah, ok Lingaard was offside and the flag was up but sterling didn't know that.

That was a very underwhelming performance by England. Tunisia were shite. Make no bones about it, they are a bad side. They can set up and make it hard to play through them, but it's a WC that's the bare minimum a side at this level should be able to do. Had England taken a fraction of their chances it should have been game over at HT. A win is a win but....

Ohh 3 other things,

1) Ashley Young and Trippier on set pieces? That's like Harry Kane on corners. TAA is superb on set pieces get him off the bench, either ditch Walker for his dumb elbow or Trippier and solve that problem.

2) That penalty for Tunisia was soft as, and that's from a non England fan. The two rugby tackles on Kane were more a penlty that Tunisia's one. Quite why the ref/VAR didn't give them, as others just them have been given so far in the tournament, I'll never know. Consistency again. All people want is consistency and all referees give is the opposite.

3) Gary Linker called that "an exceptional performance" in his piece to camera after the game. AN EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE!? What ****ing game was he watching? That was shite. Ohh and Martin Keown creaming his pants in the first 25 mins at how England were playing the best football seen in the tournament and no one would want to play them in this form. Aye, nice one Martin. Wanker.

I agree that England game has told us nothing we didn't already know about England and let's be honest any outcome from that game wouldn't have suprised anyone, win, lose or draw. The pundits can't help themselves getting carried away it's comical. The way they were celebrating when England scored, that's how I will be celebrating if we get to the semi finals, not winning against Tunisia!!!

Credit to England though they got the job done, but the Belgium game will tell us where England are. Although it probably won't because both teams will probably be happy with a draw.

I'm really enjoying the tournament, although their has been 6 1-0's, still been watchable most the time. Bit of a rubbish day today fixture wise, but when else would you watch Russia v Egypt.

Love the world cup.

To many penalties though.

Thought England were average at best, which is a thousand times batter than the last world cup.

I don't understand. They found out in the first ten minutes that Tunisia is week as hell in front of the 6 yard box. Looked like England were going to exploit it. Gutted they didn't. When they did they scored.

I was also told the new manager had new tactics. But all I saw was the typical slow and obvious build up the field, past to the wings, pass BACK, pass across the field, pass down the wings, pass back. Its like they are looking for the perfect cross. Just like it was in 2014.

They never attacked with speed, they never countered fast like Portugal, Spain, Germany and Brazil do. I find their play slow and obvious.

I hope they change. Put the ball in the box, run at defenders and take shots. ****ing shoot! 10 yards, 20 yards, 30 yards, ****ing shoot!

I hope they play better next time. Its encouraging, and thank god better than the debacle of last time.

God Argentina were bad. How can a team with all those attacking options, Messi, Di Maria, Dybala, Higuin, and Aguero NOT look like they have a clue how to score? Their back line was always gonna be ropey with Caballero and Otamendi in there. They both "have a mistake in them" as G.Neville said before their first game, and as Cabalero proved last night.

Great result for Croatia. In fact in general the European sides are doing very well. Everyone else is shite. Still FIFA will continue their auld routine of reducing the share of European places every time they rejig the allocation. I can see the logic, I mean the Asian, African and Concaf (bar Mexico) sides are doing so well. Egypt, out after 2 games. Morocco, out after 2 games. Peru, out after 2 games. Saudi Arabia, may as well not have bothered, and once the remainder of the groups his the two game marker I suspect we will be able to add three, four or five more names to that list. Still, reduce the European allocation, I mean that'll obviously help everyone else get better.

Phew Brazil got lucky there. It's reassuring to see all of these great "teams" struggle so much, I think it highlights the fact that International football has really suffered now that the players play at clubs all over the world and rarely play against each other, let alone together.

Lucky indeed Edd! Anything shocking performance from a major player...

I've been looking at the results so far and the possible outcome of results yet to come and if England finish 2nd in their group they (or whoever are in that side of the draw) could have an absolute shoe-in of a run to the final.

Bare with me a minute and I'll take you through it.

Starting with group A. Russia to beat or draw with Uruguay and top the group. Uruguay I nto England's side of the draw (if they qualify second).
Group B: Iran to beat Portugal 1-0. A pipe dream you say... maybe but Portugal looked poor against Morocco and Iran's side is built on defence. Spain 0 - 0 Morocco. Spain only just squeezed past Iran so not inconceivable. Iran top the group and go into England's side of the draw if they qualify second.
Group C: France top the group. Australia or most likely Denmark finish second. Into our half.
Group D: Iceland do what they do best. Beat Nigeria and Croatia 1-0 (they got one over Croatia in qualifying), top the group and join England's half of the draw. Croatia finish 2nd. Argentina go home in disgrace.
Group E: Brazil top the group just, Serbia or Switzerland finish 2nd and join us.
Group F: Mexico beat Korea 1-0 and draw with Sweden thus topping the group. Germany beat Nigeria and finish 2nd or worse still draw with Sweden and get eliminated as World Cup Holders in the group stage. Either way Mexico end up in our half.
Group G: Belgium top it from England.
Group H: Senegal surprise everyone and top the group, thus drawing England. Colombia or Poland finish second.

This paves the way for England or Senegal to March all the way to the final.

I love the tension of high calibre teams walking the tightrope. Makes it entertaining.

Id love to see Iceland win tonight.

Fascinated to see what Germany turns up tomorrow.
