Maybe not one for Weasel ;) but I figured the rest of us would probably like a thread to moan about England. The squad's just been announced:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Burnley).

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Kyle Walker, John Stones (Manchester City), Harry Maguire (Leicester), Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Phil Jones, Ashley Young (Manchester United).

Midfielders: Eric Dier, Dele Alli (both Tottenham Hotspur), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea).

Forwards: Jamie Vardy (Leicester), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal) Harry Kane (Tottenham).

Standby: Tom Heaton, James Tarkowski (Burnley), Lewis Cook (Bournemouth), Jake Livermore (West Brom) and Adam Lallana (Liverpool).

I'm saddened by this-

I know what you mean about not having an official World Cup squad song, but is there really any point when nothing will ever get near Three Lions?

My prediction for England is actually optimistic this time, think they will go out in the quarterfinals which would be an achievement IMO.

I'd be happy if it was just World In Motion every time, that's the only decent one!

One question on that Engerlund squad. The midfield have to do all the running and are generally the work horses of the team. So Southgate only takes FIVE midfielders?
Ok, he might stick with five at the back and thus only need three midfielders on the pitch at once, but that leaves him two as cover. Given you have a minimum of three games and probably four or five in just over two weeks that's madness.
Especially as he has ten defenders. One to cover every starting defender. Surely he could have made do with just the eight defenders and taken seven midfielders. The likes of Eric Dier probably counts as cover for both defence and midfield anyway.

Someone did say Delph and Young are possible replacement midfielders if the worst happens, but 1) they are shite. 2) surely it makes more sense to pick extra midfielders, even ones who could double up as a wing back if needs be, rather than take the chance!?

It just makes no sense to me. If one of those midfielders gets injured/sent off, Southgate has ONE option for a midfield change. Madness.m

As the most important country in Britain didn't qualify cos the referee gave a penalty for our boy not being able to change the laws of physics and move faster than the speed of light when a ball is volley into him from 3 yards away.....i'm gonna lock this thread.

Really :?
Absolutely, crap songs and the Panini album are traditional
And England going out in either the first round or to Germany to penalties :lol:u

I'll be doing the exact same thing iv'e been doing since the mid 90's with every world cup, knowing England will perform below average yet still being excited to watch a game hoping they will play amazing, only to end up watching an average or poor performance, then laugh to myself how I thought they were even going to play well. And when the next match comes along repeat the entire process again believing they've somehow improved or learned from their mistakes from the last game, only to see them play terrible again then laugh to myself afterwards in disbelief.

I think it's time I accepted England will always be ****.

I do still find it really entertaining to watch even though they play shite 90% of the time.

They do still have their rare moments though where they do some really good plays with good skill and can put a lot of effort into it, so at least there's that to take away from it all I suppose.

I know I'm probably living in a dream world but looking at odds online £20 on England to reach the semis wins you £130 back

it's very do-able, If we come 1st or 2nd in the group we end up playing either Senegal, Poland, Colombia, japan in the quarters

if we win that we play Germany or brazil in the semis

You're better off sending the £20 to me!
That way at least one of us will win something!

I've always loved the World Cup, and still get a buzz watching England play. I think it's because of how infrequent it is. I've watched them all since Espana 82. It's always a disappointment but I'll stick my Mexico 86 England shirt on, crack open a beer and watch nonetheless

I'm well impressed, if I had a Mexico 86 shirt, there's no way it would still fit!
You right, I love all the splendour, the excitement (as long as teams are playing open football) and seeing teams play that you wouldn't normally watch.
Oh, and the look on the wife's face as you say,"great football on again tonight"
