Welcome guys, could have sworn that spooked hippie joined years back?

Must be another forum

Lol hey Spoons!
Don't think I've ever joined, you must be thinking somewhere else. Very weird how lots already seem to know me here!

I think we've even met in the flesh at memorabilia or somewhere similar a few years back. Good to see you here :)

Hi there,
I'd like to introduce myself, I'm BadMotivator, in my 30s from the UK.
I first got into collecting in the mid to late 90s, and luckily managed to get my fanatical 'must have one of everything' phase over whilst I was still in my teens and didn't have so much money to spend!

I stopped collecting for about ten years whilst I went off and did other stuff but started getting back into it about a year ago. It was quite a different hobby in the 90s (no ebay) and its amazing to see how much stuff changes hands nowadays. I think that's what might have lured me back!

This time round I'm only interested in stuff which has some meaning for me personally, boxed vehicles mostly (the mintier the better) and loose figures (the scruffier the better - I like them to have been well loved!). Its all about recapturing the magic, which for me as a child was mostly about fantasising about toys that I knew I'd probably never own, which is probably why I tend to go for the 'toyshop' style display - everything in its box ready to be plucked down from the shelf!

If I had to describe myself as a SW character, when I was a kid I was a Luke all the way (a lot of people say they liked Han best but I think they're forgetting just how much impact a light saber has on a young mind). Nowadays I's say I'd more like R5-D4 - pretty useless and slightly falling to bits.

Anyway looking forward to meeting you all

Cheers

Hi all

Been collecting vintage SW since 1980! Carded since about 1989 (when John Menzies sold off all their figures for 99p) I bought a load of carded figures to display on my bedroom wall!!

Mostly collecting ESB carded. Focus is generally Han Bespin and Luke Bespin!

Is it me or is Luke Tatooine with brown hair virtually impossible to find carded on any cardback????

Been browsing this site for a while and just decided to join!

Cheers
Ross

Wellcome to all the new guys , nice to her your storys .

This is a great forum and i'm shure your gona love it here .

Well only been a member for 1 day but I'm already staying up into the wee hours posting and jumping out of bed early to see if I have had replies - definitely a bad sign

SW was the first film I saw at the pictures (aged 5) and to say it had a big impact on me is an understatement. Was obsessed with all things SW, loved collecting (playing with) the figures and the ships. Unfortunately some of these were sold off by my parents when they thought I'd got too old! but happy to say most survived.
My wife bought me a Master Replicas lightsaber for my 30th which got me right back into collecting again, but it's only recently that I have started displaying my old vintage toys and it's this that has brought me the most pleasure, totally agree with badmotivator - it's the happy memories that looking at my old toys triggers in my head, my very understanding wife has let me turn our spare room into my SW room so working late is no longer a problem when you are surrounded by vintage toys/memories.

Only a couple of figures shy of my 77, but I'm sure at some point I'll crack and go for the last 17 as well! A couple of ships I am after as well - I am picking up the modern vintage collection stuff to display next to my originals and it looks pretty good.

My daughter has loved SW from day 1 (obviously brainwashed) and enjoys collecting modern and vintage - very proud moment when she asked for vintage R2 and 3PO for her 16th Birthday :D
Met some great guys and struck up a few friendships through the SW community and I'm looking forward to spending far too much time on here!
Cheers
Colin.
