When will the bubble burst...?

The comment about thinking the hobby had died was true. I had no concept of SW collecting on FB until maybe may or june 2015. Until that point I was genuinely gutted to think the forums had dried up to 2 or 3 posts a day.

Yes I joined here in may 2015, id never seen or heard of SW FUK before. My immediate call was to RS that id been a member of since 2001 ish. And before that the old Collectstarwars forums. My initial thoughts were what the ****...? It felt like 28 days later.

I love this forum, Im on FB but it's absolutely tits, i have only been on there 3 month and have never bought anything, i think i would struggle to trust people on there, at least here i have bought a fair few things because i feel i can trust people on here.

P.S if i advertised my **** on FB i think i would have the most massive cock as i have 52 graded VCJ :p "I wish"

See, there are numpties everywhere, not just FB.

As an example even the rocket fett post descends into how much the buyer paid, as if that's some sort of veiled insult.

Er...what? How does someone pondering on the price equal a veiled insult? I too wonder how much he paid. Now I'm a numpty? In fairness, I've been called worse, but I usually do something to justify it.

Hi Steve, I appreciate you coming forward and apologies if I've offended/embarassed you, I obviously had no idea it was you, but my comments still stand. £25 for a Leia with no weapon is a stupid price. As is £25 for a yellowing Luke Farmboy with a broken lightsabre - you even say the 'reduced' price of £15 is close to what you originally paid, which basically means at your original price you were expecting to double your money! That's not how collecting works I'm afraid.

What you paid for them is irrelevant, that doesn't mean you're entitled to make back what you paid. I have a whole box full of 400+ weaponless figures (ie beaters) including at least 10 Luke's and Leia's in similar condition to yours, and I guarantee you they are not worth £25 each. Sorry but you need to understand that people charging ridiculous prices for crap is what is driving prices up across the board.[/quote]

Hi Edd ,

I appreciate the apology , just to clarify when I posted at £25 , I didn't know what I paid , I still don't . So I was not trying to double my money . Unfortualately the prices are what they are , it's a lot of factors driving up the prices and I always try and keep mine fair , although I don't sell much .

However on the point of the bubble burst it doesn't really matter to me , I collect for the nostigia of it and the look of the graphics , photos . So I had a collection before the hype and high prices and will have it after the hype , it's not the money it's the collecting

My point does still stand on the bitching and disrespect of others views , sometimes I agree some things need to be said , however I have noticed more and more threads on the negative aspect of collecting rather than the enjoyment , excitement , finds and completion of a run .

I have only been on this forum a short while, and although I still know next to nothing about the hobby compared to the posters on this thead;  had I just have stuck to ebay and facebook I would know far less about the hobby and would certainly have spent more far more than I needed to.

Plenty of people on the FB thread were talking about how much it cost as well.

Hang on a minute there fella. This your being a bit touchy.

This is a forum. It is a place for debate and discussion. There are no rules here concerning where the topic goes and what gets discussed. If the audience wishes to raise a point they are entitled to. With something like this, people may be interested in discussing the value and price paid. Especially given the current state of the market.

Thats not my point and you know it. My point is the insinuation that because it was revealed on FB the buyer obviously paid too much and is only revealing itthere for the back slapping and arse kissing that goes along with it.

Most things descend into price chat - whether it's Star Wars, houses, cars whatever - it's natural. Many people are interested in the cost, some like to see ' how the other half live', some like to see if they got a better deal and a few people are just jealous they don't have as much money. it's the last group I don't like.

I must admit, I haven't posted many of my recent buys because I don't want to be accused of being some twat who paid too much money and is showing off.

I've never seen anybody on a forum go on all the other forums and tell everyone they're going to make a "historic revelation" at a certain time in a certain place. People on forums just post stuff when it happens. It was a publicity stunt, no doubt with the sole intention of attracting more members to the group. Didn't work on me

Soooo back on topic, it's you who is responsible for the price bubble then?

Seriously though, if you want to buy at the moment you're kinda stuck paying the bubble prices (although I'm sure we're all hunting the same bargains!). That's the problem with a bubble, it drags people in as not buying at these prices means you may never see them again. I very much doubt that we'll ever see prices from even a couple of years ago now as people just won't sell at that much of a loss, even if they have to ... It's the people who've paid crazy prices, rather than what's normal now, who'll really lose out.

What is also very different lately (I started on Mocs again last March) is that prices are such that people are unwilling to sell stuff - bear with me here as it sounds stupid I know. I have a 'spare' figure which is pretty sought after - a few years ago I'd have sold it knowing I could rebuy if I wanted to - now I won't sell as I know I wouldn't be able to own it again if my focus moves. I know other people who are the same - if they have spares they will either only trade or will price them at 2017 levels (chance of a 2016 bubble pop aside). Perversely, that pushes prices up too.

And yes, it's basically all my fault ;) (I definitely overpaid for 2 figures but paid below, or at, market prices on the others).

****in hell! It's all gone a bit turbo on the forum this weekend hasn't it. With regards to the Fett discovery I think it's great, no need to argue about how it was revealed, price of it etc. It's the internet, it's going to come out and be on every bloody site within minutes anyway. It's something to celebrate, doesn't matter who bought it or what happened, just nice to see. Forum vs facebook, doesn't have to be a contest, as many have said FB has it's place for selling and trading, it's fast paced and has millions of users. The worst thing about it for me is the way it works, there's no subgroups or anywhere to go. The group is one thread, just like one tiny part/section (the sales thread) of the forum and when someone comments the post doesn't go back to the top so it's soon lost. The sales threads on the forum are generally way better with good photos and detailed info. The sales threads on FB are way too vague and it puts me off, especially with loose figures. Now be nice to each other people, remember why we're here :)

Have no fear chaps...the collecting cycle works over a good 60 years in toys, from childhood to retirement.

Basically with any good toy product at first kids play with it.
10-15 years later some will collect it, 20-25 years later once mortgages etc are paid off, many more will collect too due to disposable income.
At the age of 60-65 many of those early collectors will sell due to retirement but more new blood will come into the collecting market because of great childhood memories and more money and time on their hands.

But in between you also get younger people growing up and showing in an interest in a product which they never had as a kid.
Trust me with over 30 years experience in the toy industry, Star Wars will just get a bigger and bigger following than ever in the future.

So just keep buying it as todays prices will be bargains in the future. :D
