I would sell my soul to Todd for Walrus Man Palitoy 20 Back...

I think I have one of those :D

Which one, a soul or a Palitoy 20 back Walrus Man.....

Drop me a PM Todd and I will sign on the dotted line in blood at midnight on the night of a full moon.

It's important to be sensible - we all have different circumstances, so if a grail piece is out of your price range, it shouldn't be your grail piece. It's like longing to own a Ferrari when you know you could never afford to buy or run one. You just need to be realistic. I've seen some real horror stories of people getting themselves in real trouble (even divorced) just to buy a few toys. Amazing.

Once again this is a topic that is really so relative to your own life situation. Having just started a Yoda focus there are plenty of items I would consider a "grail" item, some obtainable and some not. At the moment my realistic grail would be a POTF Yoda MOC my unrealistic grail would be a pre prod item of some kind but my finances just wouldn't allow it so I'll be happy with what I can afford.

The last time a grail level piece (which was actually 9 grail level pieces...9 moc 1st gen carded Polish in 2 separate lots, but becoming available at the same time) came up for me. I flipped a bunch of MOC Uzay's that I had originally bought cheaply to hold onto for a while to make more $ off of, as well as a bunch of other non US items I had stashed away for rainy day sales and pre sold a couple of the cardbacks and extra figures that were in the lots to friends for my cost(a. because they're friends and b. to offset the overall cost). I took less than I could have held out for for many of the items I sold, but in the end I was able to complete a set that it took me almost 17 years to finish(without pissing anyone off...amazingly enough). It was one of the proudest days I ever had as a collector when I assembled them all into one picture.

Joe, I know this is becoming a dead horse topic for you but you should try and remember what you just wrote as your last sentence above...

(It was one of the proudest days I ever had as a collector when I assembled them all into one picture.)

Stick around man, dont sell up if you dont have too. This recent sh*t will blow over. If I was in your shoes. I'd sell of everything but the Uzay collection and molds. That is still a dream collection. You'd still be the King of Bootlegs. There is nothing wrong with being passionate about the things you collect. If you sell up the Uzay run you will 100% regret it if not now then further down the line.

Regards

Grant.

Strange I have no "grail" items when it comes to toys or any other Star wars collectible. Sure there are lots of things I would like to own but nothing that I absolutely must buy. The only thing that would fall into that category would be the original filming miniature of the Falcon.

I don't really have a 'Grail piece' I'm after as such, although have some very rare Mocs in my collection. My favourite MOC I own is not grail material at all but it's the last MOC I would part with.

I always like how collectors display their collections and this has me in awe more than say someone who has grail pieces galore but they don't display them that well.

Displaying and changing the way you display items gives me far more of a realistic challenge, satisfaction and excitement than obtaining a 'Grail Piece' and I say that from experience.

I find the key is to have a grail piece that you could afford if it came up for sale, that way you're not chasing a dream that can never come true :D

Must be karma....Because 2 days after writing this sentence, my grail piece came up for sale! (I'd been waiting a looooooong time)

Hmmm depends on what you mean by Grail then. I don't think a Grail should be easily achieved.

Until my grail piece came up, I only knew of 3 others and I had never ever seen one for sale! I'd say that's pretty difficult to achieve :p

Those who made it happen know who they are, and have my thanks.

:D

What was it?

All will be revealed soon as I am now very, very close to being able to do my first limelight for one of my variant collections, which I will do on this forum :D

Haven't really been collecting that long to have a definite "Grail" but there is one that comes to mind and that's a Complete Poch Bespin Luke! would love to have one for my L.B. Focus. But I heard it goes for a couple hundred, but I do have a couple of dead stock air Jordan's on deck to get rid of just in case my grail ever shows up :D

FWIW my grail piece was the LIGHT GREEN Wally with the ":1" COO and I finally got around to documenting the collection...

Walrus Man COO Reference Guide - Pic heavy!

Do I need to think up a new grail piece now? :p

Other than Bram finding his TT nien nunb MOC, Anybody else found their grail recently?

This is a really good thread - I hadn't noticed it before

I think that there are a lot of good points and to be honest I am lucky that at the moment I don't 'have' to own one of my grail items as there are plenty of other items that I can buy - however this list is getting smaller and there will come a point when I have to make a decision as to whether I will ever own a Trilogo Jawa, Boba, Madine, etc

I did actually own one of my grail items - a Droids Boba Fett but got a good offer to sell and the money came in really hand - it is like Edd says, why aspire to own a Ferrari if you can't afford to run it - I think SW collecting is like that - I have some great pieces that I have built up over the years and although I have occasionally stretched myself slightly in order to purchase them, I have never put myself or family at risk

As a reformed gambler, I am also glad to say that if the worse comes to the worse then I also have something to show for this particular hobby - unlike before when it was just a pile of used betting slips

I would never sell off any of my collection just to get my one holly grail piece. My collection is too precious. Prob do what Jeff did, sell some DVD's, PS3 games and stuff like that. Also try and get some more overtime at work.

I've tried pimping the Mrs out but she's doesnt like that idea!!!!!

For me it's R2 12 back - ungraded but perfect, crystal clear bubble, white body and sticker. For awhile I was actually worried it might pop up when I couldn't afford it - worried that I would somehow convince myself I had to buy it even though I couldn't afford it, bullshitting myself that another wouldn't come along.

Thankfully my wife has managed to talk sense into me - "these moc's are being well looked after by other collectors, they don't need rescued or saved. Just wait and enjoy the hunt, you'll get one when the time is right"

......................that's not to say if one came up now I wouldn't just go ahead and sell something to get him :D
